They finished their meal in festive spirits.
Soon, Pei Ge began to feel fatigue from her recent flight.
“Haaaa!”
She yawned and tiredness flashed across her eyes.
“Are you sleepy?” asked Egger gently when he observed that she looked tired.
“Slightly.”
After all, she had taken a long flight. Despite sleeping most of the way, it was still different from lying down in a big, comfortable bed.
“I’ll send you back, then.”
The man stood up.
“It’s fine. I want to visit my mom.” She shook her head.
Her main reason for returning was to see how her mother was doing.
“There’s no rush. We can go there once you are well-rested.”
“That’s right, Ge Ge. Just head back for today and have a good rest.”
…
In the end, she was forced to return home by the man.
As she got out of the car, she felt even sleepier at the sight of the house which she had not been in for some time.
“Thank you.”
She smiled at the man as she held her children’s hands.
“I’ve said it before; you don’t need to be so formal with me.”
She nodded smilingly at him.
“Mhm. Then, we’ll go inside now.”
“Alright. Rest well; I’ll come visit you guys another time.”
Since she had just gotten off a plane and was feeling tired, Egger did not insist on imposing on her.
Thus, he merely stood up and watched them head inside the house before returning to his car.
However, instead of driving away… he took out his phone.
“Hello. Have you arranged for that person to head there?”
“Yes, boss.”
“Okay… Be careful. After all, the opponent this time isn’t stupid.”
“Boss, rest assured that that person is smart enough for the task and has long prepared themselves for it…”
“Alright. Tell that person that, after completing the task, I’ll let them have everything they want.”
…
“Ma’am, Mr. Egger had me return the day before in preparation for your return.”
The moment she opened the door, Pei Ge spotted the caretaker she had hired for her two children waiting for her in the living room, clearly already done tidying the house.
“Why didn’t you inform me that you’d be returning? Don’t you want me to take care of your everyday living?”
Alice was a blue-eyed blonde whom she had picked off the streets. Out of pity, she let this girl take charge of her children since the latter had nowhere to go.
In any case, she was intending to find a gentle sister to take care of her children.
What she did not expect, though, was for this girl to take charge of the house chores. On top of taking care of her children in her stead, she also did the household chores.
Hearing the girl’s complaint, she shook her head wryly.
“I will just be here for a couple of days and will be gone soon, so…”
“Even if it’s just a few days, you should still let me know.”
The two children began defending their mother at this point.
“Sister Alice, don’t blame mommy; mommy is merely concerned about you.”
“Yes! Mommy doesn’t want you to be too tired.”
She shook her head in amusement when she heard the children’s words.
“Alright. I’m not blaming ma’am. You guys make me sound like a bad guy.” Alice looked at the two kids fondly.
“Ma’am, I’ve prepared warm water for you to bathe and changed the sheets in the bedroom. The little master and mistress can rest anytime.”
“Thank you.”
Nodding, Pei Ge led her children to their large bedroom.
Since they enjoyed sunshine, the side of the room facing the sun was free from any blockade with its floor-to-ceiling windows.
The moment she entered the room with her kids in tow, her mood became as bright as the sun outside.
“Let’s go shower together!”
“Yes!”
She bathed the two before retreating to the specially commissioned, large bed.
“Hoo!”
Once they were settled in bed, she let out a comfortable sigh.
“Mommy, I wanna listen to a bedtime story! Brother and I haven’t heard one in a long time!”
Little Ran Ran tugged at her arm, acting cutesy.
“Sister, mommy is feeling tired right now. We should just go to sleep for today!”
Little An An, who had always doted on his sister, shook his head and rejected her idea.
The girl only realized then that her mother indeed looked really tired.
“Sorry…”
“It’s fine.”
Their mother looked at them before kissing them on their heads.
“Since we’re going to sleep, mommy will tell you a bedtime story!”
She smiled indulgently at them as she narrated ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
“Once upon a time, there were three little pigs…”
She fell asleep halfway through the story.
“Mommy?”
The children lifted their heads from her embrace when they heard no more sound from her.
Their big eyes then registered their mother’s sleeping face.
“Shhh! Mommy is asleep.”
The boy signaled his sister to keep quiet while he tried to keep his voice low.
“Mhm! Shh!”
The girl nodded and placed her index finger on her pink lips as she shushed herself.
“Brother, has mommy told us that before?”
“No. What’s the matter?”
“…I remember hearing this story in my dreams!”
“Hm?”
“I remember… hearing her tell me this story in my dreams!”
