Zhang Zian stared at the monitor. Captain Sheng and Yu Fei were focusing on Zhang Zian’s face and trying to figure out any sort of hint from his facial expression. However, Zhang Zian quickly glanced at the monitor and said, “Okay. I am good.”
Captain Sheng and Yu Fei were even more confused. They felt that Zhang Zian was either faking or hiding his real power.
Zhang Zian requested seriously, “And I have another request.”
“What is it?” Yu Fei asked.
“Did the stealing happen on the fifth floor?” Zhang Zian confirmed again.
“That’s right,” Captain Sheng replied.
“Okay. I request to turn off all the surveillance cameras.”
The request was unexpected. Captain Sheng was quiet for a second and said, “I understand your request because what you are going to do might reveal your trade secrets. However, I don’t have the power to make this decision.” He then looked at Yu Fei and the ball was thrown to Yu Fei’s court.
“Well…” Yu Fei was not sure. Although Zhang Zian was the expert that Captain Sheng brought over, what if anything happened on the fifth floor while the surveillance camera was turned off?
Zhang Zian couldn’t care less, “Yes. It relates to my trade secrets which I don’t want to reveal. If that’s too much to ask for… Captain Sheng, can I still reimburse my taxi charges for this trip?”
“Okay! I will make this decision,” Yu Fei decided. “How much time do you need?”
Zhang Zian thought for a second, “Half an hour to an hour.”
“Okay!” Yu Fei operated the surveillance system and the monitors on the fifth floor all turned off at the same time.
“Mr. Zhang. How is it now?” He asked.
Zhang Zian was satisfied, “That’s great. Thanks. Please don’t turn it back on before I come down.”
“Should I come with you?” Captain Sheng asked.
“Nope. You can go back to where you were. It is the weekend. Go home and have fun with your family. When I am done, I will report to you no matter what the outcome is,” Zhang Zian said. “I have to reimburse my taxi charges, remember?”
Captain Sheng was surprised, not because of Zhang Zian’s rejection of his company, but in his reminder to go home. He thought of secretly conducting Zhang Zian’s background check and thought about his parents who had passed away. Captain Sheng started to really like this young man.
Captain Sheng was having problems with his wife. That was why he went back to the office on the weekend. He meant to stay away from his wife, but that made her even more mad at him.
He sighed and said, “You are right, Mr. Zhang. I will go home and come back before noon… Oh. Should I bring you some food? Or do you want to order take-out?”
Zhang Zian replied without hesitation, “If it isn’t too much trouble, please bring me some food from home.”
“Well, that’s fine but I only have some normal homemade food. Nothing fancy,” Captain Sheng reminded him.
“That’s fine. Homemade food is great! I have too much take-out these days.”
Captain Sheng looked at him intently. Then he put his hat back on and said to Yu Fei, “I will come back in a bit. Please take care of everything here.”
Seeing Captain Sheng drive off, Yu Fei asked, “Mr. Zhang, what is next?”
“You can wait here. I will go on my own.”
“Okay. These are the key cards for the fifth floor,” Yu Fei gave him a few key cards and keys.
“Okay,” Zhang Zian took them over. Each key card had the company’s name on it. It was very clear.
As Zhang Zian was about to leave, Yu Fei stopped him. “Mr. Zhang, please wait. Take this.” He gave Zhang Zian a walkie talkie. “You can talk to me with it.”
Yu Fei taught Zhang Zian how to use the walkie talkie.
Taking the walkie talkie, Zhang Zian left the monitor room. Winking to Old Time Tea, Zhang Zian brought both Old Time Tea and Fina in the elevator.
It was the weekend. The elevator was empty. Both Old Time Tea and Fina had been in an elevator before so they weren’t surprised.
When they reached the fifth floor, Zhang Zian took them out of the elevator. He looked up and saw a surveillance camera. He already knew from Captain Sheng that there were dead angles in these cameras so he wasn’t worried that Yu Fei would turn the cameras back on. As long as the process of releasing Galaxy from the app and turning Old Time Tea invisible wasn’t being recorded, he had nothing to worry about.
No one was on the fifth floor. It was quiet.
He entered the stairs, which also served as an emergency escape route. There was no surveillance camera there.
Pulling out his cell phone, he released Galaxy.
Galaxy yawned and raised a paw to rub its eyes. “Zian, where are we?”
“This is a tall building. Some bad kids who stole people’s stuff came here before. Now it is our job to find them,” Zhang Zian explained.
“Zian, they might not be here anymore,” Old Time Tea reminded him.
“I agree. Well, we have to try our luck. A few buildings were stolen from before, too. We can’t search every one.”
Old Time Tea nodded. “As far as I see, this building looks like it is strictly managed, but there are lots of loopholes.”
Zhang Zian agreed to Old Time Tea’s point. The biggest flaw was that there were not enough security guards. When they talked to Yu Fei, there was no one on duty at the gate. If a car or other small animal slipped in, no one would’ve noticed. Of course, it was also a weekend, so there might not be as many security guards. There might be more during the week. Zhang Zian also noticed that the security guard in the monitor room was not paying attention to the monitors because he quickly put away his cell phone when the group came in.
Fina was a bit impatient. “So what are we doing here? I don’t want to waste any more time.”
“So, you are saying that you are a busy cat? You would only lay in the sun and do nothing at home anyways. You can lay in the sun here,” Zhang Zian couldn’t help but rebuke.
Fina opened up its eyes and fought back, “Shut up! That is my palace, which is way better than here!”
“Okay. I don’t want to argue with you. Well, let’s search for some clues and we can go home when we are done.”
Hearing that it could go home, Fina reluctantly shook its fur and braced itself up.
“Zian, should we stay together or search on our own?” Old Time Tea asked.
“Well…” Zhang Zian wasn’t sure. He threw the ball back to Old Time Tea. “Grandpa Tea, what do you think?”
Old Time Tea thought for a second. “Either way has its pros and cons. Let’s stay together.”
Zhang Zian confirmed right away. “No problem. Let’s do that. I prefer staying together as well.”
Honestly, if they got separated, he would have to worry about Fina causing trouble or Galaxy getting lost. Staying together seemed like the way to go.
