Shi Beiyu lifted his eyebrows slightly. “Why didn’t you pick up my calls then?”
Mu Siyin drooped her eyelids and gave a forced reply. “My phone was on silent mode, so I didn’t know.”
Shi Beiyu reached his hand out and raised her chin, making her look into his eyes.
As Mu Siyin glared into his flawless amber-colored eyes, she shuddered in her heart.
Shi Beiyu knitted his brows slightly and replied in a soft yet firm tone, “Trust me. I really didn’t lie to you last night. I had no choice but to do what I did yesterday. It won’t happen again in the future, okay?”
Mu Siyin was on the brink of tearing up. She did not know whether to nod or to remain silent.
He had his own complications, and there was probably nothing he could do yesterday. In fact, he must have gotten yelled at because of her too.
She suddenly started to question herself. Did she make the right choice of dating him?
She believed in him yet was not sure if she should tell him that.
She was torn by her inner conflicts, stuck in an endless loop of confusion and uncertainty.
“Can you give me some time to think?” She looked at him and whispered gently.
A hint of shock flashed in Shi Beiyu’s eyes.
She still did not trust him…
Even so, he would not give up on her.
An awkward silence fell as the two stared at one another. Eventually, Shi Beiyu gave in and nodded. “Okay.”
The car drove on steadily, but the two remained silent. The atmosphere was a little tense.
After some time, the car stopped in front of the Mu family villa.
Mu Siyin let out a silent sigh of relief and reached her hands out to open the door. Just before she got down, Shi Beiyu abruptly asked, “Do you want anything for the Double Seventh Festival?”
Mu Siyin’s body stiffened when she heard this. She hesitated for a while before she lowered her head and said, “I don’t think it’s appropriate for us to celebrate this festival.”
Upon saying so, she left.
Seeing that Mu Siyin did not look back, Shi Beiyu furrowed his brows tightly.
Inside this sweet and lively woman laid deep secrets that were unknown to him.
Mu Siyin had just entered the building when she heard Mu Xingyu bragging.
“You don’t know this, Grandma and Dad, but although Yifan is hurt, he treats me with all his heart. He called me today and said that he had ordered a custom-made diamond ring for me. Apparently, you can only make such a ring once in your lifetime.”
“Really?” Li Tongzhi asked in surprise.
Mu Xingyu lifted her chin proudly. “Yeah! He even said that he’d propose to me on the Double Seventh Festival.”
Then, she lowered her head and smiled shyly.
Old Madam Mu nodded her head. “It’s good to know that his feelings for you are sincere. Since the Gu family is operating well now, both of you are well-matched in terms of social status.”
Li Tongzhi’s face lit up as she interrupted, “I agree with that too, Xingyu. Yifan is way more compatible with you than Mu Siyin! Both of you look just like husband and wife.”
“Oh? Really? Can you tell me what the criteria are to look like husband and wife, Auntie Li?”
Mu Siyin’s voice suddenly rang behind her and gave Li Tongzhi a fright.
The latter turned around her head in dissatisfaction. As Mu Siyin walked closer to her, the woman frowned and sighed softly. “Mu Siyin! Are you a thief or a professional eavesdropper? Why do you always show up when we are talking?”
Mu Siyin folded her arms and lifted her brows innocently. “I was going to ask if you were showing off on purpose? Why do you always have to talk about such ridiculous things when I come back? Only a child would fall for such baseless words.”
Mu Xingyu was still mad at Mu Siyin splashing egg and tomato soup all over her earlier today. So now that Mu Siyin mocked her by saying that Gu Yifan was lying to her, she raged. “You’re just jealous, Mu Siyin!”
Mu Siyin grunted. “You just said something about… having a once-in-a-lifetime diamond ring, right? To be honest, Gu Yifan gave me the exact thing two years ago.”
