“Come on Sis, stop wasting time!” Zhixin mumbled.
“Wait, I didn’t know you enjoyed kicking someone when they were down.” Huo Mian wasn’t sure how to react; wasn’t he supposed to be her brother? Why wasn’t he helping her!?
“Honey, don’t be scared. I’ll tell everyone not to laugh when you sing,” Qin Chu consoled Huo Mian.
Huo Mian: “I…”
“Come on, Dr. Huo, it won’t be romantic anymore once the fireworks are over,” Su Yu urged.
The truth was, Huo Mian didn’t like to perform, so she rarely even sang at karaoke. She wasn’t very good at showing herself off. Even Qin Chu had only heard her sing a handful of times, even though they had been together for so long.
After all, Huo Mian wasn’t good at singing, so she was okay staying quiet.
“Whose idea was it today?” Huo Mian was almost sure that it was Zhu Lingling. Back when they were in school, two of Faye Wang’s songs, Red Bean and Yes I do, were very popular amongst the students, so even Huo Mian hummed it once in a while. Every time she hummed the song, Zhu Lingling would laugh at her.
Zhu Lingling had good reason for laughing; Huo Mian was indeed tone death. However, in her defense, Faye Wang’s songs were incredibly hard to sing – so singing offkey was super normal.
Would she sing simple songs like the birthday song offkey as well?
“Fine, since you’re all so insistent, then I have no other choice but to try… but remember, if anyone laughs while I sing, our friendship is over and I’m pushing you off the boat.”
“Haha, are you threatening us?” Tang Chuan laughed.
“Sure, why not?”
Qin Chu loved how cute his wife was when she was being bullied, so he decided to take the other side and bully Huo Mian along with the others.
Huo Mian was rarely this flustered, so this was indeed a sight to see.
“I’ll sing a song that I’ve been really into these days,” Huo Mian said.
“Great, will you be singing Laughing My Head Off or A Person Like Me by Mao Buyi?” Tang Chuan guessed.
“Nope.”
“Then it has to be Love Confession Balloon by Jay Chou, or A Little Happiness by Hebe Tian.” Tang Chuan kept naming popular karaoke songs.
However, Huo Mian shook her head again.
“It’s okay, it doesn’t matter what you sing, we’ll listen intently,” Su Yu said as he gestured for everyone to sit down in a circle, leaving Huo Mian standing in the middle.
Qin Ning even found a microphone and handed it to Huo Mian. “Mian, use this, or else the sound of the fireworks will overpower your voice.”
Huo Mian looked down at the microphone in her hand and scratched her head. “What else have you got? Bring it on.”
“Haha, that’s it, okay contestant, you may begin.” Zhu Lingling was literally about to fall to the ground laughing.
“Judges, aren’t you going to ask me what my hopes and dreams are?” Huo Mian asked comically.
“It’s okay, we all know your dream is to bury us alive,” Su Yu guessed.
“Hey, you’re smart, Young Master Su.” Huo Mian pointed at Su Yu.
“Sis, stop wasting time, we’re all waiting, come on!” Zhixin seemed very excited; after all, it had been a while since he last heard Huo Mian sing.
