“My appetite hasn’t been great lately, I’m not sure if it’s mental or physical, but I get nauseous whenever I smell weird things. I know I won’t be able to withstand the smell of seafood… so don’t bother with going to the market.”
“Okay then… promise to tell me if you want to eat something though.”
Huo Mian nodded…
“Oh, right, come with me for a second.”
“Sure…” Su Yu followed Huo Mian back to her room, where she took out a cheque and handed it to him. “This is an internationally-accepted check… it should be easy for you to cash. Wire transfers are inconvenient for an amount this big.”
“I don’t need money, just take it back.” Su Yu looked down at the amount on the check; it was the amount he secretly lent her.
“I don’t need money either, Qin Chu left me with a lot of money in the Swiss bank account. GK may be managed by someone else right now, but Qin Chu told Uncle Qin to send me five million yuan every month, so I really don’t need the money. I paid back the money the four of you lent me back then, but my assistant said that you secretly transferred more than you said you did… I have to give this money back to you.”
Su Yu looked down at the cheque again. “I didn’t lend you guys this much though.”
“Just take it, consider it as interest…”
“Don’t say that…” Su Yu complained, but Huo Mian replied in all seriousness, “But I don’t know how else to thank you. You don’t need anything, but I want to express my gratitude… doing it with money is the only way I can think of, don’t blame me.”
“Do you really have to do this?” Truth be told, Su Yu didn’t want to take Huo Mian’s money, nor her interest. Her gesture made him feel like an outsider…
But she was right, he was an outsider…
“If Qin Chu were here, he would agree with what I did. I know you don’t need money, but it’s just a gesture.”
In the end, Su Yu couldn’t bear to make Huo Mian feel bad, so he quietly took the cheque from Huo Mian’s hand and carefully placed it away.
Then, he looked up; before he could say anything, however, Huo Mian asked, “Su Yu, can I go to GK?”
“Huo Mian… you’re not supposed to be walking around town…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Huo Mian shook her head and looked at Su Yu with puppy dog eyes. “I know. I don’t want to go in, I just want you to… take me there secretly. My father-in-law and Qin Chu spent so much effort on GK, I can’t just pretend it doesn’t exist anymore… you can park downstairs, I don’t even have to go in. No one will find out, please?”
Upon seeing her expression, Su Yu immediately folded. “Let’s go, I’m driving.”
In order to not attract attention, Su Yu got GK to send a white Range Rover that belonged to an executive to the hospital.
45 minutes later, Huo Mian sat on the passenger seat of the car as she looked up at the skyscraper before her, her expression sad and complicated.
Su Yu knew Huo Mian didn’t miss the building; she missed Qin Chu…
Therefore, he didn’t say anything and quietly sat beside her.
They watched as the employees walked out of the building one by one; Huo Mian didn’t say a word but watched as Bella left the company, getting onto her car while speaking on the phone.
Soon, she saw Yang… and his expression seemed more depressed than usual. Without Qin Chu there, he was no more than a lonely assistant.
After a long time…
Su Yu decided to speak up, “Huo Mian, it’s getting late, sitting there like that is tiring. Let’s go back.”
“Mhm.” Huo Mian nodded.
On their way back to the hospital, Huo Mian didn’t make a sound. Her eyes were glazed over, but Su Yu didn’t know what she was thinking about.
In the end, he chose not to ask; when they arrived outside the hospital, Huo Mian finally spoke, “Can you ask everyone If they have time for lunch tomorrow? I miss them.”
