Gao Peng, who was staying at Zhou Tianmin’s house temporarily, didn’t know what was going on outside at that moment. In truth, even if he had known that everyone in the world was talking about him, he wouldn’t have minded in the slightest.
Of course, the Southern Sky Group might have had a hand in spreading his name across every news station in the region.
Now that everyone knew what Gao Peng was capable of, no one would even bat an eyelid when he did something outrageous.
“Zhou Mengmeng, is that Gao Peng really staying at your place?” whispered someone outside the garden.
“Yeah.”
“An 18-year-old with a Lord-tier familiar… That’s just incredible. If he had signed a blood contract during the Cataclysm’s early days, he’d probably have an Emperor-tier familiar by now.”
On the east side of the garden was a wide, empty space, over which a waterproof canopy had been set up. Some monster training equipment had been prepared beneath the canopy. For instance, there was a 16-foot-long leg-training equipment in a corner of the empty space which was specially designed to suit any monster’s anatomy.
Da Zi was lying flat on its back on the exercise machine. It bent its body upwards, then relaxed, then bent upwards again. Its body was now glistening with sweat.
“Do this for ten more minutes, and I’ll give you more food for dinner tonight,” said Gao Peng, glancing at the stopwatch in his hand.
Da Zi’s black eyeballs gleamed excitedly. “All right!” When Gao Peng looked away, Da Zi’s movements slowed down considerably.
Gao Peng then walked towards a butterfly machine beside Da Zi. The piece of equipment was approximately 20 feet tall. As it was way too big for Goldie to use, Gao Peng had asked Flamy to breathe fire at it from time to time in order to keep Goldie at a sufficiently inflated size.
Flamy happily circled around them in the air like a stumpy penguin that could actually fly. Every time Goldie was about to deflate, it would quickly breathe out a jet of fire at it. If this wasn’t enough to trigger its passive effect, Flamy would send another jet of fire in its direction.
“Not bad, Goldie. I’ll give you a mutated tuna for dinner tonight,” said Gao Peng, smiling.
Goldie’s movements intensified even more when it heard what Gao Peng said.
“Gao Peng, Gao Peng,” said Silly, who was floating above Gao Peng’s head and tickling the back of his ear with one of its tentacles.
“What is it?” said Gao Peng, lightly pulling at Silly’s tentacle with his fingers.
“Da Zi’s slacking off…” said Silly happily.
Gao Peng frowned. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see that Da Zi was simply lying on the exercise machine, its feelers waggling happily on its head.
“Good job. Three cups of juice for you,” said Gao Peng encouragingly.
Silly’s eyes lit up as it hugged Gao Peng’s head with its tentacles. “Thanks, Gao Peng. You’re the best!”
“Da Zi, do 10,000 sets right now. You can only eat when you’re done,” said Gao Peng coldly.
Da Zi’s body froze up. It hadn’t expected Gao Peng to turn around so suddenly.
“There’s a surveillance camera above you. I’ll be checking it to make sure you don’t slack off.” Gao Peng pointed at a surveillance camera which was installed in a corner of the canopy.
Da Zi gaped at him.
What human thought it was a good idea to invent such an invasive device? What does he or she have against me?!
The right-hand corner of the place was occupied by Stripey.
Ever since a pair of horns had grown out of Dumby’s shoulders, Stripey now had the honor of carrying Gao Peng everywhere on its back.
It was doing push-ups with a few tons of weight on its back. A faint white mist issued from its joints and back.
“He’s already training his familiars at such an early hour. No wonder he was able to train one of his familiars to reach Lord-tier,” said a tall, slender girl with shoulder-length hair who was standing beside Zhou Mengmeng. She was wearing a red shirt that revealed her shoulders, a black, ankle-length skirt, and natural makeup on her face.
“An Ningxue, if you’re on the lookout for a boyfriend right now, you could always ask your father to let you marry into the Ji family,” teased Zhou Mengmeng.
An Ningxue didn’t blush at this. She was seriously considering what Zhou Mengmeng had proposed.
Zhou Mengmeng sighed as she looked at Gao Peng. She didn’t like the way his grandfather had tried to set her up with him. She didn’t hate Gao Peng; she simply disliked the idea of having the grown-ups decide everything for her.
…
Gao Peng looked at his watch. It was now half past seven in the morning.
The tournament would start at eight, and it would take him at least ten minutes to get to the stadium. He still had plenty of time until then.
Gao Peng had also noticed Zhou Mengmeng and her friend outside the garden. However, he decided not to call them, as he didn’t really know them.
When he was done training his familiars, Gao Peng began packing up his things.
Goldie leapt down from the massive butterfly machine and waddled towards the closet, then aggressively opened the closet and took out its yellow coat as carefully as possible.
As it was still in its enlarged form, Goldie simply swung its coat over its shoulder and waddled out of the training area.
When the massive duck passed Zhou Mengmeng and her friend, it simply glanced at them and stretched out its neck haughtily.
“Ew, hairless female humans, how horrid.”
Da Zi stared at Gao Peng as it tried to crawl down from the exercise machine.
Gao Peng shot it a warning glance, causing Da Zi to quickly crawl back up on the exercise machine.
“Just wanted to stretch my muscles,” said Da Zi glumly. It continued working on the exercise machine.
After breakfast, Gao Peng flew to the stadium in a helicopter with Dumby hanging down from the helicopter’s landing skids.
In less than ten minutes, the helicopter arrived at the stadium. The audience and reporters had already filled the stands. The remainder of the elimination matches soon began.
In the afternoon, most of the audience was already exhausted from spending the whole morning cheering for the remaining participants. The excitement in the air had all but died down.
“We’ll be starting the last elimination match of the first round shortly!” announced the host.
Taking this as his cue, Gao Peng led Dumby out on the field.
The metal gates on both sides of the field slowly rose up.
In the left-hand corner stood a boy wearing a red uniform and a pair of black pants. A huge black tiger entered the field behind him. Its body was covered with black scales that glistened beneath the sun. The pattern of stripes on its forehead resembled the Chinese character for the word ‘king.’
A blonde, blue-eyed boy with long, wavy hair came out from the right-hand corner. A knobbly tree-like creature followed him by slowly pushing itself forward with its serpentine roots.
Some of the audience who had been dozing off suddenly woke up with a start. “The most anticipated battle is about to begin!”
“The champion of the Huaxia region versus the champion of the Yinglie region!”
“Yu Ge will definitely come out victorious.”
“But Brandy’s not that weak. He’s not champion of the Yinglie region for nothing, you know.”
“Are you even from Huaxia?!”
“…”
