“Attack!”
I ordered, and the forces began to attack the Grimm Fortress; every Emperor and Tyrant began attacking, including me.
BANG Bang bang
Deafening sounds begin to ring out as attacks hit the shields of the fort. We have to destroy the fort and kill all the Grimms within. It is a more symbolic gesture than anything else as I had sensed the Ratman and others leaving through the different spatial channels.
Though, the attack is not all useless as there are still many things that could be found in the fort, aside from the skeletal crew, not to mention this fortress itself is a very precious treasure.
The shields are going down steadily; in ten to twenty minutes, we should be able to destroy the last defense this fortress has and enter inside.
BOOOM!
Thirteen minutes later, we broke through the shields of the fortress but did not enter inside it immediately. It is common sense, they would surely have left the hundreds of traps inside, and if we are not cautious in dealing with them, we would have to pay a high price.
There was the case in the last war where we have lost a Grandmaster to the trap in the fortress despite being very cautious, which is why I had sent Nero and also began to spread my strings inside to catch anything wily that Grimms have left behind.
BANG BANG BANG
A couple of seconds later, explosions began to ring out in the air in the fortress, and they continued running for minutes; even now, sounds of explosions could be heard from inside the fortress.
“Just how many exploding artifacts these bastards have left behind,” Edvin said beside me; there was a faint tremor in his voice when he said. These explosions are powerful enough to scare even a Master that is a step away from reaching a Grandmaster class.
“Such numbers of explosive artifacts are not normal; ive been in a fortress raid before it had not had half of exploding artifacts as this fortress,” added Nera, hearing the continuous explosions.
She is right; from the data I had read, the number of artifacts they have deployed here is far above average. The Ratman must have really hated me to the bone to leave behind such a high number of artifacts.
It is quite regretful that these artifacts could not be salvaged once they are activated, and most of them are one use. Still, I got pretty loot already through my strings, and a few skeleton crew it had left behind had bloodline, which had helped me grow a few of the resources.
BANNNNG!
Suddenly a huge band rang out; it was so powerful that it had rattled this huge fort and pushed back the Masters beside me.
“My God!” Camphor gasped with a bloodless face. While the rest of the explosions were for others, this one was for me. It could kill a Grandmaster easily, and if I had caught in it, I would have also been hardpressed to survive even with my defensive abilities; without them, I would have been dead for sure.
The explosion was in the core area of the fortress and likely would be the last of this level as artifacts that could create an explosion powerful enough to Grandmasters are not cheap.
Even though I am pretty sure it would be the last Grandmaster class exploding artifacts, I don’t want to take any risks till my strings and Nero scanned every inch of this fort; only then I would be able to enter inside this fort with my army.
It did not take long; within an hour, I had scoured the whole fort, diffused nearly all the dangers, and unless one does not act like an idiot, the will be fine.
“Let’s enter the fort!”
I said, and we entered. We did not fly above it; instead walked inside through its huge gates. Entering the enemy fort through the gate is a huge sign of victory, and I want my army to enjoy that. They fought for it and deserve it.
Once we entered the fort, I quickly assigned the jobs to Masters and leaders before I took Edvin and Camphor to one of the most important places in the fort.
It took us a few minutes, but we reached it. It is in perfect condition despite a couple of Master killing artifacts exploding near it. They were places here with the aim of destroying it, including the Masters that wandered here.
“It is in perfect condition,” Edvin said, looking at the huge teleportation gate, one of the strategic assets of war.
These teleportation gates are spread everywhere, but they are still needed, especially those of Grimm Monsters, as they are big and energy-efficient used in the travel of Grimm Tyrants.
I walked toward the formation before starting to dismantle it. It is a very complicated process and requires deep knowledge of its working. I had spent quite hours working with the technician and with my deep knowledge of runes, breaking such things is not a problem.
There would have been a problem if the gate had been a Grimm made, and fortunately, it is not; otherwise, I would be only be used for spare parts. As half of the materials used in the making of those teleportation gates are useless to us, they hid quite nasty surprises for us, humans.
It took a few minutes before I completely disassembled it and stored its parts in my storage before moving toward the other important part.
About an hour later, I entered the most important area, the control room. The bastard had placed that bomb right inside it, and when it exploded, it had destroyed quite much, but it is not beyond salvage.
From what I have seen so far, despite hundreds of artifacts exploding, 90% of parts of the fortress are still usable, which is a great thing.. The forts receive huge damages during the war and having a huge collection of spare parts helped a lot.
