Hiding below the mountain for an ambush was only a one-sided thought on Moonless Thunder’s part. Other than Ming Du, who needed to accept the quest, Wang Yu and co. had never been with the team. They secretly separated themselves from the rest the moment they got off the flying device.
Even though the players had the advantage in terms of geographical and social conditions, Fearless was not entirely confident they could hold them off for a long period because the Holy Knights were not like any other level 60 monsters.
However, he was certain of one thing. Regardless of whether the players were exterminated, or the Holy Knights slaughtered, Quan Zhen Sect must obtain the coordinates of the holy hidden grounds during this period of time. Otherwise, the consequences would be extremely severe.
If the Holy Knights defeated the players, the Atlanta City dungeon would fail, and the quest would be forced to end. If the players defeated the Holy Knights, Quan Zhen Sect’s plan would be exposed. Berserk Heavenlaw had over millions of players so why would they be happy to know that they were played?
What Fearless needed to do now would be to work hard to stall for time. He must delay this war for as long as Wang Yu and co. needed to find the coordinates of the holy hidden grounds.
Currently, Fearless brought men to the middle of the valley to hide for the ambush. While it might not be as high as the mountain peak, it was also several hundred metres high. Looking from above, the Holy Knights below looked like busy white ants scrambling through the fallen trees and rocks.
Under the command of Fearless, the Berserk Heavenlaw’s players had collected all sorts of items which could be thrown. Everything was piled up near the cliff.
There were far too many items that could be thrown from the mountains. It includes large stones, half a human-sized wooden piles as well as brain-sized ice chunks. From such a height and terrain, even a small egg thrown down would be able to severely injure a person below the mountain.
They even gathered a pile of firewood and very soon, the cliff was filled with ‘explosives’.
“Should we get our brothers to test the firepower?” When Berserk Thundergod saw the number of items piled up, his OCD started acting up and suggested that.
“Test your head!” Fearless reprimanded, “Can’t you see that they have yet to reach this place? If you alert them now, what if they choose not to proceed?”
“So what do we do now?” Berserk Thundergod was slightly shocked by Fearless’ reaction.
“Just wait… Once all of them reach our position, we will give them a good time.” Fearless stretched his body as he replied before leaning against the large rock beside him.
“Eh?” Fearless looked up and coincidentally, saw two shadows fighting in the sky.
A calm Fearless proceeded to take out his spectacles for a better view.
Naturally, the two shadows were the two big BOSSes, Reynolds and Coulee. The two fellas were throwing skills at each other and while every skill looked extremely gorgeous, they were all of no effect. After half a day, both of them suffered not even a single cut. It seemed like the hatred between these two BOSS was merely part of the backstory. Even the current fight was nothing more than the system’s CG animation.
However, Fearless felt slightly uneasy looking at the two men fighting. The system would definitely not arrange a series of CG animation for no reason. These two fellas must be some sort of variables in the quest.
After six to seven minutes, the Holy Knights finally arrived not too far away from the ambush spot. Moonless Thunder nudged Fearless as he said, “Boss Fearless, their front line is almost at the centre of the valley. Should we open fire?”
“No, we have to let them come over first,” Fearless answered.
“Are you sure? Why are we letting them over?” Moonless Thunder questioned yet again.
“This is called luring the enemy in deep,” Fearless replied.
“So we’re just going to let them escape?”
“It’s okay, Wild Thunderheart brought a few of his brothers to the front for another ambush. They will not be able to escape,” Fearless replied.
“Their team only has a thousand people and the length is not even hundred metres. Why are we stretching ourselves so much?”
Moonless Thunder was not an idiot and while he had never fought a war in an army, he had commanded over thousands of men before. He was naturally aware of common knowledge for an ambush in the valley.
With lesser men on their side, it was naturally better to concentrate the firepower. With just slightly less than 200 of them, pulling the enemy lines to over one thousand metres was clearly not advantageous to them.
Of course, Fearless couldn’t explain the fact that he was trying to stall for time, so he replied with a smile, “There are benefits for a longer line so you need to stop questioning me.”
“But…”
“But? Have you forgotten that I am the overall commander? You can take over if my plan fails!” an annoyed Fearless responded.
“Exactly! Moonless, why do you have so many questions? I do think that Boss Fearless’ plan is brilliant.” Berserk Thundergod hurried to ease the tension between Fearless and Moonless Thunder.
Moonless Thunder only thought that such a long line was inappropriate given the circumstances. He knew that he was definitely not capable of commanding so when he heard what Berserk Thundergod said, he dismissed the doubts once again.
Looking at the confused Moonless Thunder, Fearless asked on the guild chat once more, “Are you guys done? I don’t think I can hold it in the bag for any longer anymore.”
“What are you rushing us for? We haven’t even found Regis.” Ming Du replied in frustration as he saw Fearless’ message.
“What? You guys cannot even find him? What have you been doing all this while?” Fearless grew anxious.
He had been trying his best to stall for time here, but they couldn’t even find the most crucial NPC for the information. How is he supposed to continue?
“Old Li is not at fault because Regis seems like he had disappeared completely from the face of the world. We’ve asked everyone, but none of them know where he is,” Spring Halo replied.
Normally, players simply need to ask for directions from another NPC to look for highly respected NPC like Regis. However, every single one of the residents in Atlanta City seemed to have no clue as to Regis’ whereabouts.
“No way! What’s going on? Could he have known that we’re coming to find him, so he went to hide?” Fearless asked in a depressed tone.
Boson replied, “Reynolds did mention that Regis was cultivating behind closed doors, right? I think he should be hiding in some resident’s place.”
“Resident? Don’t tell me we have to search every single residence?” A disappointed Fearless asked.
Atlanta City was even larger than Vatican City and there were over thousand residences of varying sizes. To search every residence here, they might need one entire day to do so.
“F*ck! Isn’t this a large-scale dungeon? You can’t deal with the Holy Knights with one wave of attacks?” Vainglory asked.
Fearless replied, “I am not sure what is in store for us, but I do think we can kill this wave of Holy Knights very quickly. However, the ambush tactic can only be used once. I’m worried that after we kill this wave, another wave of even stronger Holy Knights would appear. The moment we are unable to defend ourselves here, the quest is over.”
