Lei Xiao did not see this coming. He automatically replied to Huo Yao. “Well… I’m not that busy actually.”
“Uh huh. In that case, I’m going back. Talk again.” Huo Yao pretended not to hear what he said. Instead, she waved and turned to go back into her estate.
Lei Xiao stood where he was as he watched Huo Yao walk off before he took the small box and placed it in the car. After putting on his seatbelt, he suddenly remembered something.
Huo Yao had wanted to see him. Why didn’t they go out for dinner?
Lei Xiao raised his head and looked out of the car window again, but there was no one in sight. He could only scratch his head and start the engine sadly.

The next morning, Huo Yao received the blood analysis results from Lei Xiao.
He sent Huo Yao a picture of the test results and a few audio messages. Since Huo Yao was in the middle of class, she only tapped on the picture without listening to the audio messages.
Just as she expected, the white blood cell count in the specimen was low and the amount of radiation it contained was through the roof.
The radiation was not formed naturally. Since it was man-made, once the radiation levels reached a certain level, it would cause problems to the immune system. If the patient had underlying health problems, this would advance into chronic radiation illness.
Fang Chen’s teacher did not simply have a case of heart problem, and radiation had played a part in turning it into the current situation.
The patient probably came into contact with radiation, but Huo Yao was not interested in this. She was more interested in this illness.
Based on the current standards of medicine, there was no cure for chronic radiation sickness.
She wanted to try using methods that were unavailable in this era and Fang Chen was the perfect patient.
Huo Yao thanked Lei Xiao before putting her phone away.

Lei Xiao kept thinking about it, so he called Huo Yao again in the afternoon.
In reality, he already got the test results last night, but the blood analysis results were inconceivable, so he did not send them to Huo Yao right away.
After he got to the research institute, he read up on sources of radiation, but was unable to find anything useful. However, he faintly remembered that the research institute had done some research about this before.
He recalled that something went wrong with the radiation source and almost caused a major accident. Several researchers were fired from the research institute and the director also banned such research.
“Where did this blood sample come from?” asked Lei Xiao after the call got through.
Huo Yao was eating, so she answered with her mouth full. “Why?”
Lei Xiao went quiet for a couple of seconds when he heard her cool voice. “Nothing really. You only get such test results from patients who were exposed to radiation previously, so I was curious about where the blood sample came from.”
Huo Yao did not answer Lei Xiao right away.
Lei Xiao paused and reminded her without insisting. “Whatever it is, be careful.”
Huo Yao rubbed her chopsticks and acknowledged softly. “Got it.”
They chatted briefly before ending the call.
After Huo Yao hung up the phone, she mulled over briefly before putting her phone away.

Meanwhile, at the administration block.
After Qi Hui came back from seeing Prof Liu, he sorted out some documents in the office for 30 minutes before placing the documentation of an important research project into a sealed envelope.
He left the office with the envelope after sealing it and went upstairs to the archive room.
