Only Huo Yao and Li Fang remained in the private room in the small teahouse.
Li Fang poured more tea for Huo Yao tea. He raised his head to look at the private room entrance before he turned to look at Huo Yao and said, “You know I can’t be treated, right?”
Huo Yao raised her brow as she tapped her fingers on the tables gently and said, “Your condition wasn’t caused by a common virus.”
Li Fang looked into Huo Yao’s eyes. They were so deep and profound that it felt as though she could see everything. He was slightly surprised. But then he quickly concluded since she was able to diagnose his condition, she was no ordinary physician.
Li Fang simply shook his head without explaining further. He looked at the door for some time before he finally said, “No matter what, thank you for hiding my condition from Fang Chen. This way, he doesn’t have to worry about it.”
Li Fang had been grooming Fang Chen for a decade. Even though he was Fang Chen’s teacher, they were as close as father and son.
Huo Yao picked up her teacup and took a sip before she said unhurriedly, “Do you really think there is no cure?”
Li Fang was caught by surprise.
“Some special viral infections can be suppressed.” Huo Yao paused before she added without going into all the technical jargon. “I never joke about my patients’ conditions.”
Li Fang was unable to snap out of his shock.
Meanwhile, Fang Chen came back after answering the call. After he came closer, he noticed something amiss with the expression on his teacher’s face. He automatically scrutinized Huo Yao and Li Fang and remained thoughtful.
Before long, Huo Yao stood up after finishing her tea. “I have to go home.”
Fang Chen contemplated briefly and said, “Let me give you a ride.”
Huo Yao glanced at Fang Chen and did not turn down the offer. She turned and nodded to Li Fang before leaving the private room.
Fang Chen put on the mask after they came out of the private room. When they got to the staircase, he finally asked. “Miss Huo, is there something unusual about my teacher’s viral infection?”
Huo Yao seemed calm. She walked downstairs as she said, “Well, not entirely. Since he is getting on his age and isn’t as healthy as he used to be, he has lower immunity to begin with.”
Although her words seemed normal, Fang Chen could not help feeling there was something more to it. He hesitated before he finally asked. “Is there really a cure?”
Huo Yao paused briefly and answered. “Don’t worry.”
The moment Fang Chen heard what she said, the final doubts in his heart dissipated. “I will do my best to get all the herbs you need. As for the blood sample, I will make arrangements for a doctor to take his blood and send it to you.”
“Sure.” Huo Yao nodded.
Fang Chen got Lin Shuwen to send Huo Yao home. After she left in the car, he turned to go upstairs to the private room on the second floor.
Li Fang kept thinking about what Huo Yao had just said. Now that she was gone, he looked at Fang Chen and asked straightforwardly. “How are her medical skills?”
Fang Chen looked at Li Fang confidently. “She is a very highly skilled doctor. If she says it is treatable, she means it.”
After all, his current condition was proof of the miracles Huo Yao was capable of.
Li Fang squeezed his hands before he picked up his teacup and drank its contents in a gulp to calm his nerves.
Every patient wanted to get well.
Patients only became resigned when things were completely hopeless.
Li Fang gathered his thoughts. Since he felt intrigued by Huo Yao, he asked more about her. “Where is she from? I heard her talking about the Apothecaries’ Association earlier. Is she from the Apothecaries’ Association?”
