Huo Yulin noticed how upset Huo Yao was about paying the shipping charges. He went quiet for two seconds before he asked. “Don’t you have any money?”
Huo Yao scratched her head and frowned miserably. “I am broke!”
She could not refine medicine to sell unless she wanted to risk getting caught by her clan. Even though she had destroyed their satellite internet earlier, it was probably almost fixed now that a year had gone by.
Huo Yao had already blown through her savings, so she was genuinely broke. She was so poor that she could almost not afford to pay shipping.
Min Yu could not help quietly glancing at her when she claimed to be poor.
She could afford to buy Chinese herbs worth ten million. How could she call herself broke?
“I have a card. Feel free to use it,” said Huo Yulin as he took out his wallet from his pocket.
He did not understand why his parents did not give his little sister any pocket money. Since he did not have any use for the money, he was happy to give it to her.
Huo Yao’s lips twitched when she saw his gesture. Sure enough, he was a Huo. It was in their DNA to give money away.
Huo Yao cleared her throat. She shook her head as she held her hands tightly and turned down his offer. “Thanks, Brother Yulin. Poverty will motivate me to improve. I think it’s fine to be poor.”
Huo Yulin was stunned to hear this.
Huo Yao patted the package in her arms and quickly said, “I am going upstairs.”
Before long, she disappeared into the main room.
Huo Yulin put his card away sadly. Min Yu’s voice came from the side. “Brother Yulin, have some tea.”
Huo Yulin promptly composed himself before he glanced at Min Yu sideways. Min Yu kept pouncing on every opportunity to irritate him!
Huo Yulin turned to enter the backyard.
Old Madam Yang had just caught a chicken and was getting ready to kill it. Since the ground was wet, she missed a step and fell backward.
Huo Yulin narrowed his eyes and swiftly went over to hold her nimbly.
After Old Madam Yang steadied herself, she exhaled in relief. “I am so glad you were here. Otherwise, I was bound to fall badly.”
Huo Yulin helped her to the eaves before he glanced at the moss covered stone path and frowned.
The moment it rained in places like this, the floor would get very wet. Since Old Madam Yang was living by herself, falls happened occasionally. Huo Yulin decided to send someone over to renovate the place.
“Do you want to kill the chicken?” asked Huo Yulin as he looked at the chicken in Old Madam Yang’s hands.
“Uh huh.” Old Madam Yang nodded.
“Why don’t you let me do it and go take a break?” said Huo Yulin as he rolled his sleeves up.
Old Madam Yang waved her hand. “It’s fine. I can do it. Youngsters don’t know how to kill chickens. I don’t want to soil your clothing.”
Huo Yulin lowered his eyes and recalled something from the past and looked at his left hand before he answered. “I know how to kill it.”
Humans and chickens were simply structurally different, but it was no different to kill them.
The moment he finished his sentence, Huo Yulin grabbed the chicken from Old Madam Yang and went to the kitchen to get a knife.
Old Madam Yang let him do it and turned to assist him.
“Oh yes! Granny, does your daughter visit you often?” asked Huo Yulin casually as he worked.
Now that he was slightly closer to her, he had started calling Old Madam Yang his grandmother just like his sister did.
The moment he brought up her daughter, Old Madam Yang smiled bitterly and sighed. “She tends to be quite busy, so she doesn’t come back often.”
Huo Yulin’s hands froze before he asked. “Then… what about Lu Xia?”
