Huo Tingrui happened to come home at that time.
He hummed while entering the living room only to notice a strange atmosphere in the villa as his little sister and mother looked at each other. He could not help asking. “What are you both doing?”
Huo Yao looked at him and said calmly, “Nothing much. We were just talking about why the company accountant hasn’t swung by to report yet this month.”
An ominous feeling rose in Huo Tingrui’s heart the moment he heard Huo Yao talking about the company accountant.
His parents gave him quite the lesson the last time he revealed that their family operated restaurants.
Song Ning turned to look at Huo Tingrui. Huo Tingrui could not help trembling when he noticed his mother looking at him. He immediately said, “Mom, calm down. Trust me. I did not tell her about our accountant!”
Song Ning smiled and stood up. “Tingrui, let’s go to the study for a little chat, shall we?”
Huo Tingrui was on the brink of tears. “No way!”
“You are already a grown man. Aren’t you embarrassed for kicking such a fuss? I just want to have a little talk with you.”
Song Ning sighed. She walked up to Huo Tingrui, pulled him by the arm, and dragged him to the second floor lovingly.
Huo Tingrui was accused of revealing the existence of their company accountant to Huo Yao, out of the blue. He kept turning to look at Huo Yao begrudgingly with every step he took while being dragged by his mother.
Huo Yao cleared her throat and pretended that she did not see the look on Huo Tingrui’s face. She continued talking to Huo Yulin with a straight face.
Huo Tingrui was dumbstruck.
This stupid sister of his!
Huo Yulin had spent most of his time abroad, so it was his first time seeing something like this happen at home. He could not help watching in surprise as his mother and second older brother left. “What’s going on?”
Huo Yao smiled. “It’s nothing. Mom is just going to spend some quality time with Brother Tingrui. You will get used to it soon.”
Huo Yulin mulled over it but still looked puzzled. “Are you sure?”
“Uh huh.” Huo Yao nodded with a straight face.
Huo Tingrui had come home at the perfect time.
Huo Yulin did not put much thought into it.
Instead, he turned to ask her quizzically. “Mrs. Fang’s son is suffering from a rare genetic disease. How did you come up with the diagnosis?”
Huo Yao scratched her head. She might be able to fool her mother, but it would prove much harder to do the same to Huo Yulin since he was a medical genius.
She contemplated before she replied. “What can I say? This is the beauty of Chinese medicine. Even though medical apparatus is unable to detect certain problems with the patient, it can be done with Chinese medicine.”
Despite all the advancements made in the field of western medicine, Chinese medicine still remained relevant.
“I read about this disease in a book once, so I tried treating him using the method described in the book. I didn’t expect to succeed,” said Huo Yao candidly.
Huo Yao had never encountered Fang Chen’s genetic disease before, honestly. She was purely going by instinct. Since the disease was really unusual, she quickly remembered the description that she had read in the book.
Huo Yulin nodded. He did not continue probing her. Instead, he started chatting with her about Chinese medicine.
Huo Yao’s phone pinged in her pocket while she conversed with her brother. She pulled it from her pocket to see a new text message.
Yi Lianfan had sent her a text message: [Your Math teacher came up with this question, right? Have you solved it yet?]
Huo Yao replied: [Uh huh. I already gave him the answer.]
Yi Lianfan: […]
Since Huo Yao was busy texting, Huo Yulin did not intrude.
Huo Yao raised her head after she was done replying to Yi Lianfan. She noticed Huo Yulin’s curiosity and explained. “My classmate was asking me about some homework.”
