Dinner was ready before long.
At the dining table.
Song Ning looked at her sons and her baby girl sitting together and could not help feeling touched. “All of you are finally here today.”
Huo Jinyan especially went to the wine cellar to retrieve a bottle of red wine. He poured a glass for everyone but stopped in the end and poured his daughter a glass of juice.
Huo Yao went quiet.
Huo Yao did not speak much while eating and replied every now and then when someone spoke to her. She was not deliberately being quiet owing to Huo Yanxi’s presence. It was simply her habit to do so.
Although her parents were delighted that their third son was back, they remained attentive to their daughter and the meal turned out to be a pleasant affair.
Ever since Huo Yanxi committed those mistakes, he did not have the cheek to come home. He only mustered the courage to come today as his third younger brother was back.
Huo Yanxi sat at the dining table and felt unsure whether he was home to see his younger brother or for some other reason. He noticed how quiet Huo Yao was and he did not speak much either. Instead, he spent most of his time drinking wine.
Initially, Huo Yulin did not detect anything amiss. However, he faintly noticed that something was wrong when his eldest brother and little sister did not interact throughout the meal.
After they were done eating, Huo Yulin privately asked Huo Tingrui about them.
Huo Tingrui contemplated before he candidly explained their misunderstanding briefly.
Huo Yulin went quiet for some time before he said, “Brother Yanxi trusted Lu Xia too much.”
Although Huo Yanxi and Lu Xia had been siblings for over ten years, he should not have misjudged his biological younger sister.
The moment Huo Yulin mentioned Lu Xia, his expression turned a little glacial. A cold light radiated off his pale face under the light.
Huo Tingrui looked at his third younger brother. He wanted to pat his shoulder but clenched his hand and decided against it at the thought that Huo Yulin did not like physical contact.
“It’s time for you to let go too.”
Huo Yulin smiled sadly as he shook his head and looked into the distance. “I really wish I could.”
“Oh yes. Are you still suffering from insomnia?” asked Huo Tingrui when he recalled the matter.
“It’s a lot better lately. I have Yao to thank for the incense that she sent me.” Huo Yulin felt the incense was amazing. He had tried using another incense that aided sleep previously, but none of them worked.
His little sister’s incense performed unexpectedly well.
The moment Huo Tingrui heard about this, he sighed. “I think Yao knows some medicine. I have to admit that her incense is really good.”
Huo Yulin acknowledged gently.
Inside the living room.
Huo Yao and Huo Xiang were playing video games while Huo Yanxi rubbed his forehead and felt giddy after having a little too much red wine.
Song Ning noticed how drunk Huo Yanxi was, so she prepared a concoction to help alleviate his tipsiness, but it did not work.
After Huo Yulin came back from chatting with Huo Tingrui, he caught sight of Huo Yanxi in this state. He examined him before he said, “Brother Yanxi, have you been socializing a lot lately?”
Huo Yanxi turned his head sideways to glance at Huo Yulin. “Nope.”
“I think you have had too much to drink lately. Why don’t you go to the hospital for a physical check-up tomorrow?” suggested Huo Yulin.
Song Ning was stunned briefly. She composed herself and asked him. “Too much to drink? I don’t recall you to be much of a drinker.”
Huo Yanxi lowered his eyes and did not answer her. Instead, he supported himself using the couch and stood up. “It’s getting late. I should head back.”
