1664 Borrow A Few Men
Huo Changfeng sighed. He resigned himself to his fate and walked out. As he stepped out, he glanced at the butler and signaled him to come over.
The butler caught his drift and followed him out of the living room.
When they got to the door, Huo Changfeng halted and looked sideways at the butler. “Uncle Fang, who came to see Master Jinfeng earlier? What were they doing here?”
The butler told Huo Changfeng everything.
Huo Changfeng was shocked by the news. “Are you saying that Miss Tong might not be dead?”
“Probably not.” The butler nodded. He found this inconceivable, but he knew it was highly unlikely for someone to come over and lie to Master Jinfeng.
Everything suddenly made sense to Huo Changfeng. “No wonder.”
No wonder Master Jinfeng looked very different after talking to those visitors.
If Miss Tong was still alive, why didn’t she show her face for years? Why did she even pretend that she was dead and made sure they knew about it?
Huo Changfeng found this unfathomable. He had to investigate carefully, especially regarding Fan Shun and Shangguan Hou.
Only very few close aides knew about Master Jinfeng’s history with Miss Tong. Suddenly two people showed up at their doorsteps bearing news she was still alive, so there must be more to this.
Huo Changfeng narrowed his eyes. He did not continue asking and simply raised his hand and waved. “Uncle Fang, got it. I have to go.”
The butler bowed respectfully and watched him leave.
After Huo Changfeng was gone, the butler turned and went back into the residence. He told the chefs in the kitchen to start preparing lunch.

After Shangguan Hou parted ways with Fan Shun, he took a cab and went straight to his rendezvous with Qiao En.
They were meeting at a club that offered a lot of privacy.
When he got there, Qiao En was not there yet. He sat for slightly over ten minutes before Qiao En arrived.
“My bad. I was held up.” Qiao En went into the room the moment he got there. He treated Shangguan Hou very courteously. The proud air he had while he was at the university was nowhere to be seen.
“It’s okay.” Shangguan Hou put down his phone and did not seem upset about his tardiness.
Qiao En placed his coat on the clothes rack by the side and sat down on the couch. He clearly looked weary.
Shangguan Hou glanced at him a couple of times. He did not make any small talk. “Prof Qiao, why did you want to see me? Is it urgent?”
Qiao En knew Shangguan Hou did not like wasting time, so he nodded and replied. “You see. The equipment in the laboratory block got damaged and needs servicing. I was wondering if I could borrow a few men from you?”
Shangguan Hou was caught by surprise when he heard the request. “Did some accident happen during work?”
“No, that’s not it.” Qiao En rubbed his throbbing brow. He exhaled deeply and replied. “The place was intentionally wrecked.”
Shangguan Hou felt even more shocked. “Intentional? Who would dare touch the university?”
Qiao En was still reeling from the shock. He did not answer the question. Instead, he retrieved a transparent plastic zip lock bag from his pocket and handed it to Shangguan Hou. “Can you help me see if this can be saved?”
Shangguan Hou opened the plastic bag and poured the chip which had broken into pieces onto his palm and touched it. He shook his head. “No, I can’t do anything about it.”
A look of disappointment emerged on Qiao En’s face. “Not at all?”
“The electrical conductor in the chip was damaged and it can’t be restored.” After Shangguan Hou studied the chip repeatedly, he confirmed this.
Qiao En still bore a little hope, but it quickly dissipated. Even Shangguan Hou said there was no saving the chip, so it must be genuinely a lost cause.
