1583 Intentions
Huo Yulin looked at Huo Yao and Shangguan Yun inside the private room. The two of them resembled each other greatly in terms of expression and posture. If no one knew better, people would have assumed that they were biological siblings while he was a mere outsider.
Huo Yulin finally got to see Shangguan Yun up close. He was good looking and his eyes looked unsullied. Also, he had beautiful phoenix-shaped eyes.
When Huo Yulin saw Shangguan Yun’s eyes, he went into a daze and could not help finding them familiar.
The dishes were sent into the room, interrupting Huo Yulin’s thoughts. After all the food was sent, he stopped thinking about it.
“How long is the academic conference going to last?” asked Huo Yulin as he picked up his chopsticks.
“It will last for two days. Since I will need some time to travel, it might take five to six days in total,” replied Huo Yao as she nodded.
Huo Yulin said sadly, “That’s too bad. Otherwise, you could visit our eldest uncle. He hasn’t met you yet.”
Huo Yao pondered and said, “I’ll play by the ear and see if I can squeeze time.”
She had never met him before and she was very curious about her uncle.
Even though they had never met, he had given her many gifts over the new year, so she was certain he was a kind elder.
“Uh huh.” Huo Yulin nodded. “Sirin University is quite close to the county where he resides. You can get there in an hour by plane, so it’s quite convenient.”
Shangguan Yun was quietly eating. As he listened to the conversation, he got curious since it was his first time outside of the clan. He craned his neck out as he looked at Huo Yao and asked. “What’s an academic conference?”
Huo Yao turned to glance at him. “It’s sort of like a meeting.”
Shangguan Yun answered. “Got it.”
Huo Yulin’s cheek twitched. As he watched their interaction, he could not help having a sour taste in his mouth for some reason.
Even though he had reunited with his sister for over a year, their relationship was not as close and there was something different about it.
Initially, Huo Yulin felt it was normal. After all, she was swapped at birth and never spent a day with them all her life, so it was only natural for them to feel a little distant. From the interaction in front of him now, this must be what a close relationship with her looked like.
“Oh yes. Brother Yulin, can you help me take care of him if anything happens while I’m abroad?” asked Huo Yao.
Huo Yulin snapped out of his thoughts and nodded. “Sure thing.”
The moment Shangguan Yun heard what Huo Yao said, his heart skipped a beat.
Did she find out about his big plans for the future?
Shangguan Yun observed Huo Yao briefly but did not detect anything amiss. He could not help touching his nose as he smiled sheepishly and remarked. “What could possibly happen to me? I’m very popular at school, okay?”
Huo Yao turned and moved her lips to utter two words without speaking out loud. “Shut up.”
Shangguan Yun promptly lowered his head and started eating.
Huo Yulin smiled and said, “Don’t worry. I will take good care of Yun.”
“Uh huh. Thanks, Brother Yulin.” Huo Yao nodded. She told Shangguan Yun to pass her his phone and added Huo Yulin’s number to his phone book.
Even though she knew nothing would happen to Shangguan Yun, it was better to be safe than sorry.
Halfway through eating, Shangguan Yun’s phone rang.
He had received a voice call.
His hand was on the table. He automatically glanced at the screen. When he saw the caller’s name, he hurriedly pushed Huo Yao.
Huo Yao glanced at him quizzically before looking at his phone screen.
