1544 No Longer My Son
Huo Yao narrowed her eyes looking at Liu Qian’s reply. She recalled him acting weird recently and decided to call him directly.
Before long, the call got through.
“Did something happen?” asked Huo Yao calmly as she got straight to the point.
Liu Qian tightened his grip on his phone. Even though he did not know how to tell her the truth, there was no hiding it now. “DO Corporation has made arrangements to meet tomorrow.”
Huo Yao swiftly connected the dots and figured out what the previous text message meant. “Are you meeting them at the institute?”
Liu Qian acknowledged softly.
Huo Yao narrowed her eyes as the hair on the side of her face fluttered slightly from the wind. She asked him nonchalantly. “Why?”
Liu Qian could sense the atmosphere turning colder as she questioned him.
Liu Qian cleared his throat awkwardly, but he did not tell her about the threats Qi Hui had made to him using the patent and article. He simply said, “The institute worked with the company before. Also, the project belonged to the institute and we signed a contract for them.”
Before he was able to finish his words, Huo Yao already caught his drift. She interrupted. “Does this mean the project belongs to DO Corporation now?”
Liu Qian did not expect Huo Yao to figure out the truth on her own so quickly. He smiled sadly. “You can say so.”
Huo Yao laughed gently as she walked into the canteen.
When he heard her cool laughter, Liu Qian felt worried. Huo Yao might look easygoing on the surface, but she was a genius, so she had her pride.
He did not have the heart to tell her the truth since he knew she would not like it. In life, credit was stolen all the time and people were often helpless. Before they were able to attain power, they could only suck it up and those were the rules in life.
“Listen. It doesn’t matter if the institute takes away the DO Corporation project. Plenty of other projects are waiting for us. Moreover, I have already spoken to the institute about it. Even if we no longer own the project, they are still going to pay us for it,” said Liu Qian hurriedly.
After ordering her lunch, Huo Yao said calmly, “Got it. Is there anything else? If you’re done, I’m going to eat.”
Liu Qian had a lot of things to say to her, but he stopped abruptly. After choking on his words for half a minute, he finally changed his mind and responded. “Uh huh.”
Before hanging up the phone, Huo Yao asked. “What time are we going over tomorrow?”
Her voice sounded very normal.
Liu Qian replied in a dry tone. “9 in the morning.”
“Okay then,” acknowledged Huo Yao before ending the call.
Liu Qian went quiet.
He put down his phone and remained worried.
He was not entirely sure if Huo Yao would take his words seriously. Also, he did not know if she had any other thoughts about this. No matter what it was, they had to go to the institute the next day.

Huo Yao took her plate and sat down in front of the table. As she ate, she took out her phone and sent a text message.
[Are you blind?]
[If you are genuinely blind, I can do you a favor and treat them for free.]
J had just gotten off a flight when he received the text messages. He replied quizzically: [??? Are you nuts?]
Huo Yao smiled as she tapped her phone screen unhurriedly: [From now on, you’re no longer my son.]
