He Shu sighed. He gestured for Huo Yao to leave first. He said deeply, “It’s a long story. Qin Zheng is a heartless man.”
Qin Zheng was Deputy Chairman Qin’s name in full.
He Shu briefly told her about how Deputy Chairman Qin kept forcing Chairman Wang to hand over power at the association.
The moment she heard what he said, Huo Yao frowned and asked. “Is Chairman Wang sick?”
He Shu nodded sadly. “He has some long-time ailments and suffered a relapse recently. Qin Zheng refuses to let the chairman access medication. Chairman Wang isn’t doing well now.”
Huo Yao narrowed her eyes as she pondered. She said, “I want to see him.”
He Shu knew Huo Yao was an apothecary, but he was unsure about her medical skills. Since Chairman Wang never brought it up before, he simply assumed that she wanted to visit him. He replied. “Sure.”
Huo Yao arrived at Chairman Wang’s residence 30 minutes later.
His residence was a traditional house with a courtyard located in the old part of the city.
Huo Yao did not stop to look around. Instead, she quickly followed behind He Shu and entered Chairman Wang’s bedroom.
“Chairman Wang has just gone to bed after taking some meds. I doubt he’ll wake up anytime soon,” said the butler softly. The butler had been taking care of the chairman for a long time.
He Shu glanced at Chairman Wang and frowned. He asked. “Did he take sleeping pills again?”
The butler nodded. “He said it feels as though needles are stabbing him and even painkillers were useless.”
He Shu retrieved the medicine Assistant Wang had given him and gave it to the butler. “I have the meds.”
The butler was happy to see them. “Really? That’s great.”
He Shu nodded.
Huo Yao stepped forward to the bed after listening to their conversation. She checked Chairman Wang’s pallor before reaching her hand out to take his pulse.
She frowned after taking his pulse.
When He Shu saw Huo Yao examining the chairman, he gestured for the butler to stay quiet and walked over quietly. After she was done, he asked softly. “How is he?”
Huo Yao covered Chairman Wang with the blanket before straightening her body. “It’s no good. He’s dying.”
He Shu was shocked by the news. “Why? I knew he was worried about association matters and suffered a relapse. How could he be dying?”
Huo Yao glanced at Chairman Wang before she turned to look at the pill bottle in He Shu’s hand. For a moment, she was unable to give him an answer. “Let me see the meds.”
He Shu hurriedly handed her the medicine.
Huo Yao took out a pill and smelled it with a knowing look on her face. She placed the pill back in the bottle and said, “Has Chairman Wang been taking this for a long time?”
He Shu nodded and asked. “Are the meds okay?”
Huo Yao shook her head. “Nothing’s wrong with the medicine, but long-term usage can lead to chronic poisoning. Since he is already unwell, the effects will be stronger. The chronic poison will slowly suck the life out of him.”
He Shu was stunned. “Huh? Chronic poisoning?”
