Huo Yao did not know Deputy Chairman Qin, and her eyes narrowed when she heard him.
Assistant Wang took a long time to reply to her text messages yesterday. Also, he was very hesitant while speaking to her today. He even made an excuse so that she would come to the Apothecaries’ Association to collect the Chinese herbs without telling her the true reason. From the looks of it, it was premeditated.
Assistant Wang detected Huo Yao looking at him intently, so he automatically veered his eyes and did not dare to make eye contact with her. Instead, he raised his hand to knock on the office door.
“Enter.”
Assistant Wang finally turned the doorknob and pushed the door open.
Huo Yao stood where she was without moving. She paused briefly before asking. “Where is Chairman Wang?”
Assistant Wang looked hesitant before he finally looked at her and said, “Please go in.”
He wanted to tell her the truth, but it was no use.
Even Chairman Wang was powerless against Deputy Chairman Qin, let alone a young student like Huo Yao. If she got into an argument with Deputy Chairman Qin, he could make her life hard.
Rather than oppose him, it would be wiser to comply.
Huo Yao glanced at Assistant Wang as she pondered. She stepped into the office without asking out loud.
Assistant Wang prayed to himself. He certainly hoped Deputy Chairman Qin would not try to do anything funny today as he closed the door.
Assistant Wang stood outside the door after closing it.
He felt a little bad about this. After standing outside for a couple of minutes, he retrieved his phone from his pocket, opened WeChat, and swiped down to He Shu’s chat.
He proceeded to send He Shu a text message: [Miss Huo is at the association.]
**
This was Deputy Chairman Qin’s second time seeing Huo Yao. He first saw her at the apothecaries’ exam. Also, she seemed to be close to Min Yu.
He was of the impression that she was a proud young woman.
Deputy Chairman Qin stopped scrutinizing her and smiled genially as he got up from the desk. He pointed at the coffee table and said, “Why don’t you take a seat?”
Huo Yao glanced at Deputy Chairman Qin calmly as she sat down. “Why did you want to see me?”
Huo Yao was distant and blunt, but Deputy Chairman Qin acted obliviously. He simply continued to make tea at the coffee table.
“Nothing big. I just wanted to inform you about some new rules in the association.”
Huo Yao leaned against the seat backrest casually with her hands on her knees. Her dark coat made her seem even cooler.
She gently flicked some nonexistent dust in the air and said unhurriedly, “Oh really? What kind of new rules?”
Deputy Chairman Qin served some tea before he stood up and walked back to his desk. He opened his drawer and retrieved a document. He proceeded to return back to Huo Yao and handed her the file.
Huo Yao raised her brow when she saw the document. After pausing for a couple of seconds, she took the document from him.
Deputy Chairman Qin got back to his seat and took a sip of tea and said, “The contract you signed with Chairman Wang was no good. He wrote the contract without consulting any of us.”
Huo Yao only spent half a minute reading the contents of the file in her hand. She raised her head, looked at Deputy Chairman Qin, and smiled ambiguously. “Do I have to sign this new contract instead?”
“Considering your performance during the apothecaries’ exam, you are good enough to be a deputy chairman,” said Deputy Chairman Qin unhurriedly. He paused briefly before he continued. “Do you really want to be just an honorary deputy chairman?”
