Chairman Wang instantly sat up straight. He frowned and asked. “Why does he suddenly want Huo Yao to go over?”
Assistant Wang told him about Deputy Chairman Qin’s instructions earlier when he encountered him at the Apothecaries’ Association. “Perhaps he has had an issue with her since she joined the association at your invitation.”
Chairman Wang shook his head. He said with a serious look on his face, “If Qin Zheng only had a problem with her because of me, he could always fire her. He doesn’t need to see her in person.”
Assistant Wang raised his head and looked at Chairman Wang. “Do you think he wants Miss Huo to help refine pills?”
When Huo Yao came for the apothecaries’ exam recently, everyone was blown away by the pills made using her prescription.
Chairman Wang contemplated briefly and said, “It doesn’t matter what he wants, just don’t tell Huo Yao about it and pretend this has never happened. If Qin Zheng asks you about it, just tell him that she doesn’t have time to come over.”
The Apothecaries’ Association was in chaos and Deputy Chairman Qin was vying for his position. He did not want to implicate Huo Yao in the process.
Assistant Wang nodded. “Miss Huo contacted me today asking me for some Chinese herbs. I wasn’t sure about whether I should continue providing her with the herbs, so I haven’t gotten back to her yet.”
Chairman Wang said, “If she needs Chinese herbs, then just give them to her. I’m still the chairman, so I’m going to stick to my promise.”
“Got it.”
“Uh huh,” acknowledged Chairman Wang. He waved to the assistant and lay back down in bed.
Assistant Wang did not want to disturb the chairman, so he turned to leave. Just as he was about to leave, he asked. “Shall we get Miss Huo to examine you?”
Chairman Wang had closed his eyes, but he opened them and replied. “I am fine. It’s no big deal.”
Assistant Wang parted his lips. Since it was impossible to convince the chairman otherwise, he stopped trying. “Fine then.”
Before long, Assistant Wang left the room.
He Shu stood outside leaning against the wall. When Assistant Wang walked out, he straightened his back and looked inside the room. He asked softly. “Is he asleep?”
Assistant Wang nodded. He said somewhat apologetically, “I was unable to bring the medicine. Deputy Chairman Qin had his eyes on me.”
He Shu pursed his lips expressionlessly. “He’s a heartless man.”
Assistant Wang sighed. “I have to go.”
He Shu nodded and said politely, “Thank you for coming to see him.”
Ever since things at the Apothecaries’ Association got political, no one visited Chairman Wang. He was starting to lose faith in people.
Assistant Wang shook his head and smiled sadly. He wished he could help. “The chairman has been kind to me. I’m sorry I wasn’t much help.”
He Shu smiled. Even though he spent all his time studying Chinese medicine, he knew how the world worked. Deputy Chairman Qin might not have managed to buy over Assistant Wang, but Assistant Wang was unable to help much either.
Before long, Assistant Wang left. Just as he was about to get into the car, his phone rang in his pocket.
It was a call from Deputy Chairman Qin.
Assistant Wang hesitated briefly before answering the phone.
The call was short and quickly ended.
Assistant Wang held onto the phone with a serious look on his face. He quietly sat in the car for some time before he opened WeChat. He tapped to see Huo Yao’s text message.
When he saw her messages, he typed: [Okay.]
