“Young Master Min, welcome!” The law enforcement officer greeted him reverently and turned to glance at Huo Yao quizzically.
He had never seen women in such close proximity to Min Yu before.
Min Yu glanced at him and said mildly, “I’m taking him now.”
The law enforcement officer hurriedly veered his eyes and looked at Min Yu worriedly. “I… I… It can’t be done for now…”
“Why not?” Min Yu narrowed his eyes coolly.
The law enforcement officer lowered his head and explained. “Director Xi just got back and gave the order that no visitors are allowed.”
Lei Xiao was not even permitted to see visitors. How could they take him away?
Min Yu narrowed his eyes intimidatingly.
The law enforcement officer quickly changed his tone and said, “Young Master Min, if you want to see the detainee, I’m sure that won’t be a problem.”
Min Yu paused briefly before he turned to say to Huo Yao, “I’m going to Director Xi’s office. You…”
Huo Yao had yet to recover fully, so her face still looked a little pale. She waved her hand. “I’ll go check on Lei Xiao.”
“Okay.” Min Yu nodded. He reached his hand out to straighten her coat and instructed her softly. “Call me if you need me.”
“Uh huh,” acknowledged Huo Yao.
The law enforcement officer noticed Min Yu’s reaction, and immediately knew that they had to be nice to her.
After Min Yu had gone to the director’s office, the law enforcement officer spoke to Huo Yao courteously. “Allow me to show you the way.”
Huo Yao nodded politely.
Before long, the law enforcement officer showed Huo Yao to Lei Xiao’s detention room.
When they were almost there, Huo Yao asked randomly. “Is my friend’s crime considered serious?”
The law enforcement officer knew Lei Xiao was suspected of stealing academy research archives, so he replied. “Not really.”
“Since it isn’t a serious crime, why isn’t he kept in an ordinary detention room?” Huo Yao tilted her head sideways quizzically.
The law enforcement officer was caught by surprise and did not see the question coming. He paused briefly before he continued. “I don’t know either. Those were the orders.”
As they spoke, they arrived at the detention room.
Huo Yao did not continue probing.
No one was standing guard at the entrance. The law enforcement officer retrieved an access pass and swiped it on the lock. A beep could be heard before the door opened. “If you need me, you can press the bell inside. I’ll be at the door waiting for you.”
Huo Yao nodded and thanked the man before entering the room.
After she had entered the detention room, the law enforcement officer closed the door behind her.
The detention room was not very big and there was a square table and a small bed inside. After entering the room, Huo Yao could see someone lying in bed with his back facing the entrance.
She raised her brow and pulled up a chair from the table to take a seat. “From the looks of it, you have no trouble getting used to the place.”
Lei Xiao hastily opened his eyes on hearing her cold voice. He flipped over and saw the young woman sitting in the detention room. He quickly caught up from bed and said happily, “What are you doing here? I can’t believe they permitted you to enter in here.”
“There is such a thing as taking the back door,” explained Huo Yao unhurriedly.
Lei Xiao’s lips twitched. He nearly forgot she was friends with someone from the Min family!
“Oh yes. Didn’t you say no one knew about the radiation research?” Huo Yao looked at Lei Xiao and smiled ambiguously.
Lei Xiao covered his face powerlessly. “I didn’t see it coming either.”
He should not have gotten overconfident. Now, it was a real slap in his face.
Huo Yao nodded and asked. “Did they make life difficult for you?”
The smile on Lei Xiao’s face disappeared. He looked at her solemnly and said, “Not really. I think you shouldn’t hang around here. Why don’t you go back?”
