Yuan Huan hung up the phone after a couple of minutes.
He leaned against the wall gently as he contemplated. He glanced at the first aid box on the table nearby before walking over.
There was still one vial of medicine in the first aid box. Yuan Huan paused before picking up the syringe.
When the man nearby noticed what he wanted to do, he said in a mild voice, “I suggest you don’t go out.”
Yuan Huan did not even raise his head. His hand was still trembling from the previous injection, but he suppressed the pain and quickly injected the medicine into his arm’s artery. “We have made progress with the medicine, so I have to check it out.”
“Whatever.” The man did not budge. After adjusting his mask casually, he walked out of the room. “Take care of yourself.”
“Uh huh.” Yuan Huan closed his eyes.
He could sense burning pain coming from the gunshot wound on his chest owing to the injection before it slowly subsided.
Meanwhile, the man paused when he got to the door. He turned his head sideways a little. “What about the target?”
Yuan Huan opened his eyes and looked at the man from behind. “It’s hard for me to get close to him. I need more time.”
“I have been waiting for too long,” said a man softly. He clearly sounded annoyed.
Yuan Huan instinctively trembled. He said softly, “This time, you won’t have to wait for long.”
The man said nothing and simply walked off.
Only Yuan Huan was left in the room. He walked up in front of the wardrobe and retrieved a clean set of clothes.
After getting changed, Yuan Huan removed the gauze from his chest. When he checked the injuries, he could see a scab forming and it was already healing nicely.

Yuan Huan arrived at the National Academy of Medicine 40 minutes later.
He took the lift straight to Prof Gao’s office. Shortly after entering the room, he frowned when he saw the other people in the office.
An ominous feeling emerged in his heart.
People wearing uniforms suddenly flooded in from behind Yuan Huan and surrounded him.
They were Director Xi’s men.
Yuan Huan lowered his eyes. He turned to look at Prof Gao and the others and said in shock, “Prof Gao, what is the meaning of this?”
Prof Gao looked at Yuan Huan with complicated emotions running through his heart. “Why did you steal the research archives?”
Yuan Huan narrowed his eyes. He had no idea what went wrong, but he remained calm on the surface. “What do you mean? There must be some mistake here.”
“The surveillance footage was recovered. You were the only person who accessed the 7th floor.” President Cao paused briefly before he said in a disappointed tone, “You have been working here for eight years. Why would you do this? Are you working for someone?”
The moment Yuan Huan heard what he said, he put on an innocent look. “I admit going to the 7th floor, but I did not steal the research archives. Everything was very chaotic that night, so I just wanted to check whether everything was fine in the archives room.
When Yuan Huan refused to admit to his actions, Prof Gao said, “In that case, why did you offer to share those questionable notes with us? Why did you try to mislead us?”
“Those were just my personal notes. I was not involved in making the medical solution at all. Only you were involved in making the solution. How could I do anything funny?” Yuan Huan’s words seemed to make complete sense and sounded justifiable.
Prof Gao parted his lips wanting to speak, but Director Xi wasted no time. He stood up and interrupted Prof Gao altogether. “Enough. We’ll find out soon enough whether it’s him.”
The moment he finished his sentence, he ordered Yuan Huan to be taken away.
