The fifth floor was used to store equipment and had the same kind of locks as basement two, so the security guards did not even stop to check each room. In any case, they did not have the clearance to do it and it was impossible for the intruder to access them.
Dozens of security guards raised their guns warily as they combed the fifth floor for intruders. They were prepared to take down the intruder the moment they spotted him.
Before long, they got to the end of the corridor, but they were unable to find him.
The captain held his flashlight and shined it around as he asked the control room using the mike. “Are you sure he is on the fifth floor? We don’t see anyone here.”
The subordinate in the control room was still trying to get the security back online.
He said, “He’s definitely on the fifth floor since the lift stopped there and no other emergency exits were accessed.”
The captain narrowed his eyes as he cut off the communication. He gestured for the other security guards to continue searching the place.
He stood where he was without moving as he thought about where the intruder could be hiding.
The glass window was right behind the captain. If he turned, he would see the cut in the window.
Even though Huo Yulin had covered his tracks by putting the glass back in, the crack was still visible.
Before long, the other security guards came back after scouring the place for the intruder. They shook their heads when they saw the captain.
The captain frowned. “How could someone disappear into thin air?”
“Do you think he’s hiding inside the equipment storage rooms?”
……
“Since he was able to get past the security on basement two, there’s a chance he could get in.”
The captain felt it made sense. He pondered and told one of the security guards, “I’m going to report this to the institute president. Go get the backup access card.”
The moment he finished his sentence, he took out his phone.
The man nodded. Just as he was about to leave, he inadvertently glanced at the glass window behind the captain and noticed something amiss, so he quickly turned back to look at it.
He pointed at the cut in the glass. “Look at the window.”
The captain was about to call the president when he turned around and looked at the glass window as well. He looked at the cut in the window and looked outside.
In an instant, he stopped trying to call the president.
The captain put away his phone and reached his hand out to touch the glass window gently. He pushed the glass and a piece of glass promptly fell out.
Since it was pitch black outside, he could only faintly see the building exterior, so he flashed the torch at it.
Huo Yulin had already gotten to the other building. He did his best to steady himself as he quickly cut an opening in the glass window.
When the security guard captain shined the torch on the glass window of the other building, Huo Yulin squinted briefly. However, his hands did not stop for a second as he cut an opening in the glass.
The captain naturally spotted Huo Yulin this time. “Not bad. I can’t believe he made it till there.”
Sadly, he ended up getting caught anyway.
The captain pursed his lips as he smiled. He told one of the men to hold the torch while he raised his gun at Huo Yulin and trained it on his back.
