Let’s go back to ten minutes ago.
The burning firewood in the stove continuously radiated heat, and the stone bed was very warm, but Ruan Qiuqiu felt that something was wrong.
She felt as if something was pressing down on her. Yuan Jue suddenly appeared in her dream where she had been happily eating barbecue.
His long, sinister-looking scar was covered in frost, and he was staring at her with his gray-blue eyes.
When Ruan Qiuqiu suspiciously looked over, she saw her that wretched-looking gray wolf was sweetly smiling at her. Her sickly husband’s eyes were full of loneliness as he softly said to her, “… Sleep.”
Sleep?
Ruan Qiuqiu regained a bit of consciousness, but she still felt as if there was an unknown pressure that kept her submerged in sleep. She couldn’t open her eyes.
She struggled hard and succeeded in stretching an arm out from underneath the animal skin.
The slight chill diluted her strong sleepiness. Ruan Qiuqiu increasingly felt there was something wrong. She hadn’t been particularly tired yesterday. It should have been impossible for her to sleep so deeply.
Was Mr. Gray Wolf responsible for her unnatural sleepiness? What was he up to?
Ruan Qiuqiu felt a bit doubtful. She also felt the situation was somewhat humorous. Little by little, she struggled to raise her hand. She wanted to touch Mr. Gray Wolf’s arm.
But when she put her hand down on his side of the bed, there was the only animal skin with fading warmth.
Ruan Qiuqiu was startled awake. She abruptly opened her eyes and turned over to look.
The animal skins that she had tucked around Mr. Gray Wolf were scattered on the stone bed. His side of the bed was empty. He was gone.
Ruan Qiuqiu felt a chill down her back. She quickly put on another layer of clothes and her makeshift shoes, then she rushed to the storage room in panic.
She searched the cave, but there was no sign of Mr. Gray Wolf.
Ruan Qiuqiu hastily grabbed a piece of lit firewood. She stood at the cave’s entrance and looked out into the darkness. For a moment, she thought she had been abandoned.
She thought about the wolf’s words to her yesterday. He had told her to stay away from him.
She had thought that since he was willing to be gray wolf Tianluo, he probably didn’t reject her that much. At the very least, he didn’t dislike her enough that he would give up his cave.
The cold wind blew over her. Ruan Qiuqiu bit her lips. Her ears were ringing, and it felt hot from her throat to her cheeks.
The sour feeling of shame welled up. Ruan Qiuqiu blinked rapidly to keep herself from crying. From the weak light, she caught a glimpse of inconspicuous footprints near the cave.
Ruan Qiuqiu wiped the corners of her eyes. Ignoring the cold wind, she walked into the snow.
Not only was there a trail of small footprints that was almost covered by the snow, there were also large and deep footprints. From a predator?
Ruan Qiuqiu’s pupils shrink. Were these footprints from a primeval creature or a fiend that was going to attack them?
Could that wolf have changed into his wolf pup form and led that predator away?
Ruan Qiuqiu didn’t have time to bother with her random thoughts. She rushed back into the cave, took a long piece of wood from the storage room, and simply wrapped it up with tattered animal skins to fashion it into a torch.
Then, she rushed to the stone table and picked up the only weapon she could use in the cave, the bone knife.
When she picked up the bone knife, Ruan Qiuqiu noticed that the clothes she made for Mr. Gray Wolf had been moved.
Her lips were trembling as she picked the clothing up to take a look. She found a handful of long silvery-gray fur inside.
Ruan Qiuqiu saw that fur. Choked up with emotions, her eyes and brows curved.
That gray wolf Tianluo was too outrageous. Since he was leaving, why did he leave behind fur?
Also, she just noticed that firewood had obviously been added to the stone stove. Someone had poured the backup melted snow in one of the two basins into the stone pot too.
It looked as if he had done this deliberately.
Ruan Qiuqiu laughed, and her eyes gradually grew bright and determined.
She hugged the black animal skin clothing that she had made for Mr. Gray Wolf, clutched the bone knife in her left hand, and lit the torch with her right hand.
She was going to find him.
