Shen Qiongzhi was going about her skincare routine in front of the vanity table. Seeing from her peripheral vision that his cell phone was ringing, she asked, “Who is it calling you so late at night? It can’t be the people in the office again, right?”
Qiao Weimin went to get his cell phone and saw that it was a call from Superintendent Qin. He frowned and felt that something terrible must have happened.
He walked out while saying, “I’ll take the call outside.”
Shen Qiongzhi saw how he was hurrying out with his cell phone and said unhappily, “It’s already past nine at night. Can’t it wait till tomorrow? They’re not letting you get any sleep.”
Qiao Weimin closed the door, keeping her frustrated nagging in the room. He put on a jacket while walking down the stairs to pick up the phone.
“Hello, Superintendent Qin. Sorry, I was in the shower and didn’t hear the phone. What is it? Is it Chen Yuan…
“What? You said Nian Nian beat Young Master Wei up? She’s at the police station?”
Qiao Weimin felt a dizzy spell and almost lost his footing. Fortunately, he didn’t miss the step and quickly grabbed the railing to steady himself. He asked incredulously, “How could she do something so silly! And, how did she know where Young Master Wei was?”
Superintendent Qin sounded regretful about the incident but also reproachful towards him for taking Qiao Family there. Now that such a huge matter had occurred, the Wei Family would definitely not take it lying down. What was worse, Superintendent Qin himself might be dragged into the picture.
He could only try to be diplomatic and apologetic towards the other party and to say that he would find a way to solve the problem.
After the call, he stood by the stairs in a daze for a while before heading towards the living room.
He would never have thought that Qiao Nian would return, much less look for Wei Qi, and even beat him up.
He couldn’t figure out how Qiao Nian would know about the connection between Wei Qi and Chen Yuan. Even if she knew what was going on with Chen Yuan, there was no way she would know that Wei Qi was behind it.
Aunt Chen didn’t know Wei Qi by name as well, so Superintendent Qin didn’t make it too clear. He simply said it was a Young Master Wei from Beijing.
He knew the sort of person Aunt Chen was. She wasn’t so informed or exposed, so there was no way she would know who Wei Qi was!
Qiao Weimin felt a headache coming up. He went to get some water and forced a sip down, then looked at his cell phone again.
There was a notification of a return transaction.
He opened the notification and realized that it was the 50,000 yuan he had transferred to Aunt Chen previously.
Aunt Chen rejected it and returned the sum.
There was also a message from her. She said something along the lines of not being able to take his money, especially since she had received so much help from him.
Qiao Weimin eyed the message. His intuition told him that somebody like Aunt Chen would never tell Qiao Nian about it if she found out that Chen Yuan was related to Wei Qi. She would never want Qiao Nian to get involved in this and be dragged down by her son’s matter. In other words, Qiao Nian must have looked for Wei Qi on her own accord. In fact, Aunt Chen might not even be aware of what Qiao Nian had done, even now!
Qiao Weimin rubbed his temple as he felt a headache coming on. He was just a businessman and had limited connections. He might not have been able to handle such a matter even at his peak, let alone at this point when he was down and out.
He thought of letting Shen Qiongzhi know so that she could speak to Shen Jingyan.
But he knew that he couldn’t rely on her to help Qiao Nian out. Shen Qiongzhi would never agree to lend a hand. After thinking hard about it, he returned Superintendent Qin’s call.
“Help me with one last thing. Help me get Jiang Li’s number.”
