Ming Hai was shocked. He looked at the ceramic cup and then up at Qin Ran as his smile faded.
What Qin Ran meant was…
The workspace of the 129 members?
Hadn’t they been keeping out of others’ matters for a while now?
“What’s the situation with the Ouyang family now?” Ming Hai pursed his lips. He felt a little uncertain now. He knew quite a bit about Qin Ran and Cheng Juan, and he had contacts with the Yunguang Consortium and the Physics field in Continent M.
Without Ming Hai having to instruct him, his trusted aide already started to contact Ouyang Wei.
Just the previous day, Ouyang Wei had been so sure that Qin Ran wouldn’t dare to touch her.
That was why she hadn’t contacted Ming Hai immediately. Moreover, she never liked Qin Ran. So, it felt like an ultimate humiliation to be held by her.
She only started contacting people when she felt like something was going wrong.
Ming Hai’s trusted aide had a strange expression after hanging up.
Ming Hai noticed it and asked, “Something’s gone wrong?”
He looked up, seemingly a little startled. “Miss Ouyang is suspected of being involved in a murder case. She’s being held by the investigators…”
Qin Ran wasn’t the least bit surprised to hear this response. She got up right away.
She held up the coffee that she hadn’t touched before this and raised it before Ming Hai. After taking a sip, she said coldly, “Thank you for hosting me.”
With that, she placed the coffee cup back on the table.
There was still half a cup of coffee left in the white porcelain cup.
The aroma of the coffee was still rather thick and rich.
Qin Ran was only respectful to a few select people, such as Qin Xiuchen, Chen Shulan, and a few teachers.
Fewer and fewer people seemed to gain her respect, and she was used to getting her way. Ming Hai tried to apply pressure on her with his attitude, but it was obviously the wrong choice.
“Let’s go.” Qin Ran glanced at Cheng Mu and took her leave.
Her windbreaker was gracefully swept by the wind behind her.
Her expression was cold, her movements clean.
Cheng Mu was a little stunned by the situation but followed her out instinctively.
The cafeteria had been reserved by Ming Hai, so there was no other customer around.
Now, the atmosphere only got colder.
Four of Ming Hai’s men were standing at the door, with two on each side.
Qin Ran was about to exit when she saw Cheng Juan enter with an oddly cool aura around him.
She stopped in her tracks for a moment and looked up at him.
“Wait for me in the car first.” His eyes were cold, but they softened slightly when he looked at her.
“You’re going in?” Qin Ran asked.
Cheng Juan simply said, “Give me two minutes.”
“Sure.”
“This is Ouyang Wei’s intention. I went to Hao Dui’s just now.” Cheng Juan handed the confidential file to her. “Take a look first, I’ll be right back.”
Qin Ran nodded and waved at him casually.
In the seat by the window.
Ming Hai’s expression was sullen. He didn’t seem surprised to see Cheng Juan.
He looked at him, as if in deep thought. “Why the rush? It seems like this Qin Ran girl has a pretty huge influence on you.”
Ming Hai smiled. Every person had his weakness.
“Don’t look for her in the future.” Cheng Juan did not take a seat, nor did he bother thinking anymore about what Ming Hai was saying.
He looked down at him condescendingly.
“Then, you’ve got to guard yourself against me.” Ming Hai smiled and then narrowed his eyes. “What did you do to Ouyang Wei? Son, I really underestimated you, but…”
Ming Hai took a cigarette out as he went on. “The both of you are rather well-known, but that girl with you thinks too highly of herself. Do you think I’ll let her leave today?”
Cheng Juan had this weakness that he could exploit. It would be silly not to grab hold of it.
Ming Hai glanced at his trusted aide.
His aide quickly nodded and tapped on his Bluetooth earpiece, saying, “Catch her!”
Ming Hai’s men were right at the door.
Ming Hai lit his cigarette.
He then turned to Cheng Juan and smiled.
But he realized that Cheng Juan didn’t seem worried or flustered at all. Instead, he was calmly looking out the door.
Ming Hai was a little stunned. This wasn’t the reaction he was expecting.
He followed Cheng Juan’s gaze towards the door.
Not far away.
Qin Ran and Cheng Mu were walking out the door.
Her cell phone rang in her pocket and she picked it up. It was from He Chen.
The four men were standing by.
Without Ming Hai’s permission, they couldn’t let Qin Ran leave. They stuck their arms out to block her way.
Qin Ran looked up and saw the four men. She smiled and asked, “Are you sure you want to stop me?”
The men didn’t make way. “Miss Qin, please stay behind!”
Qin Ran nodded.
She said to He Chen, “Give me a minute.”
Meanwhile, He Chen raised a brow on the other side. “Are you alright?”
“Yeah,” Qin Ran said calmly.
“Alright, then attend to what you need to first.” She didn’t hang up.
Qin Ran looked up and tossed the cell phone to Cheng Mu.
Cheng Mu caught it with much understanding and took two steps to the side.
