In fact, the manager wished that she stopped existing at that moment. Being in front of the demon king and his bride, she wished she’d never talked back at Lu Xinyi earlier.
Kang Wei, who was with Shen Yi, sat beside Zhao Xi and noticed the mess on their table.
“What happened here?” He stared wide-eyed, his mouth hanging open at the state Lu Xinyi apparently was. Lu Xinyi could only hope that she didn’t stink and look like a drowned rat.
The manager dared to lift her gaze and took a courageous glimpse of the couple. There was something different about them, but she couldn’t point it out. President Shen’s expression was vaguely different from how the public perceived him.
In front of Lu Xinyi, his eyes shone with warmth as if she was the only one he could see. The way he touched her head with concern almost choked everyone from the sudden display of affection from the demon king himself.
How could this be? How could someone like Lu Xinyi tame the demon like him? This couldn’t be true; something must have happened between these two.
After making sure that Lu Xinyi wasn’t hurt, Shen Yi lifted his eyes and met the manager’s, who quickly looked away. His cold and domineering aura came back at full force, making some onlookers think that it was another Shen Yi they’d seen earlier.
The corner of his lips lifted and was enough to make people shudder in fear.
“What kind of service have you given to Xinxin?” As he spoke, Shen Yi grimaced and looked distraught, clearly not pleased on what happened to his wife. His shoulders tightened, eyes glinting with barely concealed irritation.
Lu Xinyi scooted closer, running a hand on his arm. Her eyes stared back at the manager with amusement.
“She wants to blacklist me, Shen Yi. I’ve only said my opinion about their dishes. Was it wrong?”
“Really?” Shen Yi responded, without breaking his gaze at the manager. He crossed his legs and let Lu Xinyi leaned closer to his body. He was deeply satisfied that she wasn’t ashamed to see them together in public.
“Then we can’t do anything about it. We just don’t have to dine here anymore, and tell our associates not to take their services.”
Lu Xinyi let out a smirk, knowing that the ball was now in her court. This type of people didn’t care about screwing an average person. Now, she was able to make them look like asses, trying to figure out an escape route from the devil.
“Alright, fine with me,” she told her husband.
“This could have ended nicely. We’re just spending some quality time, and you chose to ruin it. We’re here to dine, but we are going to go somewhere else. So sorry for all the trouble, Miss Manager.” Lu Xinyi said so sweetly as she stood to take a leave with Shen Yi. ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ
The manager panicked and stepped to block Lu Xinyi’s way.
“Wait! Miss Lu doesn’t have to be so rash—!”
“Am I?” Lu Xinyi countered, “If you’ve forgotten, you just humiliated me and tried to make me a laughingstock at your restaurant. I’m pretty sure that many have witnessed your rude actions.”
Knowing that she could not win this war this time, the manager fell on her knees and kowtowed in front of Lu Xinyi. Lu Xinyi’s eyes widened in surprise, not expecting that the woman would yield so easily in Shen Yi’s presence.
“Please, Miss Lu. This one asks for your forgiveness. She doesn’t know what she was talking about.”
Lost for words, Lu Xinyi only stared at her. Sensing that his wife wouldn’t like to stay any longer, Shen Yi took the initiative to leave the place.
“I see. So this is how would you treat my woman. Let this be a reminder of what has to come if you dare to obstruct Lu Xinyi’s way.”
His deep voice was enough to make anyone’s heart shudder, deeply engraving those words in their minds. The onlookers swallowed nervously, glad that they weren’t at the receiving end of his wrath. It was obvious that from the moment Shen Yi stepped foot inside the restaurant, the manager would lose everything that she had.
After hearing those words, a cold chill swept through the manager’s body.
“President Shen—!”
“Do not waste my time.” Shen Yi cut her off completely, “For a restaurant like this, I’d expected the best service you could give. Lu Xinyi deserves the best and that doesn’t include this petty restaurant.”
Zhao Xi still didn’t understand why the couple chose not to announce her marriage. She gave Shen Yi a confused look. All they had to do was announce it, and no one would dare to look down at Lu Xinyi anymore. Yet, Lu Xinyi had to suffer all the drama and nasty words that had been thrown her way.
Why Lu Xinyi had to put herself through this? What was she trying to prove?
“Enough of this nonsense. Stand up and don’t embarrass yourself anymore.” Lu Xinyi finally refuted. “What Miss Manager did today was so wrong for many reasons. Whether I am with President Shen or not, humiliating a customer should never happen. I hope Miss Manager realizes this and never make the same mistake in the future.”
After responding with those words, Lu Xinyi turned and left the place with Shen Yi. She didn’t even spare a glance at the woman helplessly sobbing on the floor; neither did she turn around.
“Is she alright?” Zhao Xi asked her husband worriedly. She was afraid that Lu Xinyi would be bothered on what people might think of her after this.
“There’s no need to worry, Xi. With Shen Yi around, there’s no way he’ll let Lu Xinyi suffer.” Kang Wei replied as they watched Shen Yi’s limousine leave the place.
After a long silence, Zhao Xi released a breath, leaving her husband confused.
“That’s what I’m worried about.”
