Neither Nian Junting nor Luosang knew how to answer that question.
The two of them glanced at each other with a confused expression.
“My charm, I think,” quipped Nian Junting haughtily.
Rolling her eyes, Luosang said, “I think it’s because I have poor taste in men. Also, I got pregnant, so I had to marry him.”
If the conversation continued, the two of them might start quarreling. So Nian Xi hastily said to them, “Thank you for coming here to check on me. I still have work to do, so you guys should leave now. I’ll see you next week at Apple’s party, with a big red envelope.”
She walked them to the gate. Nian Junting went to get the car; Luosang stayed behind with Nian Xi, holding the baby. At last, she said to Nian Xi, “Your brother and I don’t have any shared interests. Sometimes I wish I could kick his ass. But he does love me, and his love for me has never changed in spite of my past and my family. He’s given me a sense of security that I need. When I’m tired, I have someone to lean on. In his eyes, other women are like sculptures. I think this is how a couple should be. To him, I can be a princess or a queen.”
Nian Xi was flabbergasted to hear that. She was still in shock after Luosang left.
She could be a princess or a queen.
That sounded like a marriage any girl would want.
…
In the car, Nian Junting glanced at the rearview mirror. Before leaving, he noticed a weird look in Nian Xi’s eyes.
“What did you say to her?” he asked Luosang.
“I told her what a happy marriage is like.”
“Like you have a husband who’s good in bed?” Nian Junting smiled and raised his brows. Then he said, “Jiang Yuning looks so weak. I don’t think he’s good in the sack.”
“Why don’t you ever listen to me?” Luosang’s temples were even throbbing. “Don’t always say that about other guys. How do you know? Like you’ve tried it with him?”
Nian Junting kept his mouth shut.
“He’s probably weak, but so what? He was strong enough to carry Nian Xi from the ninth floor from a burning building, wasn’t he?” Luosang snorted. “How on earth did he do that? That is so heroic and romantic.”
“Enough.” Nian Junting’s handsome face turned dark. “It was only nine floors. I’ve climbed cliffs before. I’ve climbed Mount Zhumulangma. If you like climbing buildings so much, how about I take you to climb that mountain now?”
“Eh… No, thank you.” Luosang dropped her head and took out her phone. “I’m calling Su and asking her if she has time to come to Apple’s party.”
“Do it. She’s Apple’s godmother after all.” Nian Junting agreed once he thought of Mo Liuxi’s frosty face.
Luosang quickly called Yan Su. After a few rings, she finally picked up, sounding a little tired. “Sangsang, how come you have time to call me today?”
“You never called me. What can I do?” Lusoang laughed. Then she said, “Do you remember what’s happening next week?”
“Apple’s turning a hundred days old, right?” Yan Su hurriedly said, “I’ve been keeping that in mind. But…I’m leaving the day after tomorrow.”
“Oh, can’t you leave later? You’re Apple’s godmother.” Luosang was disappointed.
She didn’t have many friends. Yan Su was her best friend.
“I’m so sorry.” Yan Su’s apology sounded sincere. She wanted very much to attend the party, but she didn’t want to see Mo Liuxi. “I’ll come to see you before I leave. I won’t be back until the end of the year.”
“Okay.” Luosang didn’t try to persuade her to stay. “Call me before you come.”
