Chapter 882 Level Two Skill Book
Hepatectomy was considered one of the top surgical skills out there.
Previously, Ling Ran spent more of his time actually operating on patients. Even though he had been writing research papers, as a whole, he spent more of his time doing rather than thinking.
Never had he expected that by making notes when he was free, his hepatectomy skills would be elevated.
Before this, when he only possessed Master Level Hepatectomy, he was already capable of carrying out freelance surgeries all over Changxi Province. Now that he possessed Perfect Level Hepatectomy…
Ling Ran immediately asked internally, “System, what is my ranking right now when it comes to hepatectomy?”
“You possess Perfect Level Hepatectomy. You rank 5th in the world, 2nd in China, and 1st in Changxi Province…” The system gave a very quick answer.
Ling Ran arched an eyebrow.
He still remembered that the first perfect level skill he possessed was Perfect Level Barehanded Bleeding Control. But at that time, he did not even rank within the top hundred in the world for that, and he only ranked 13th in the country. Comparatively, Perfect Level Hepatectomy seemed to carry more weight.
Next, another notification from the system appeared.
[Reward: Self-Improvement]
[Reason for Reward: Obtained “Perfect Level Hepatectomy” courtesy of your own practice]
[Reward: Level Two Skill Book]
A skill book with golden rims appeared amid a ball of blue light. It was sparkling.
Ling Ran opened it without hesitation.
[Level Two Skill Book: Elevates a Basic Skill to Perfect Level]
Next, the six basic surgical skills appeared on the title page of the book. The words were sparkling.
[Exposure]
[Incision]
[Separation]
[Bleeding Control]
[Suturing]
[Drainage]
Ling Ran immediately understood that this meant he did not need to make any further choices after he selected one of the six basic skills and that a Level Two Skill Book allowed him to elevate one of the basic skills to the perfect level. That included all the skill branches.
But Ling Ran was hesitant.
Prior to that, he had obtained Barehanded Bleeding Control and Hemostasis by Heat via Level One Skill Books. After that, he had also chosen Separation of Tissues, which fell under Separation.
Ling Ran could pretty much carry out hepatectomy so well to the point of perfect level because he had the help of those perfect level skills.
The two bleeding control methods allowed Ling Ran to take risks and carry out all forms of hepatectomy. This also greatly lowered the risk of surgery.
As for the Separation of Tissues, it allowed him to navigate the most important aspect of hepatectomy smoothly.
Even a small skill branch within a basic skill could bring about such a great difference. How would things be like to be able to master an entire basic skill?
First, Ling Ran looked at Bleeding Control and Incision.
Bleeding control had always been important to a surgeon. The better the surgeon was at bleeding control, the lower the probability of patients dying on the operating table.
Ling Ran had already obtained two skill branches within Bleeding Control, and if he were to select Bleeding Control now and master all the skill branches, it was not like the system would give him two Level One Skill Books in return.
An incision was slightly different compared to separation. Incisions meant the cutting of tissues without complete removal. One example was incisions made during open abdominal surgery. Aside from that, separations did not always require a scalpel. Sometimes, tissues could be pulled off using a surgeon’s bare hands.
Compared with Separation, where Ling Ran had already obtained a skill branch from, he felt that Incision would be able to elevate his abilities to a greater extent.
After he thought about it, Ling Ran’s gaze fell on Exposure.
As the saying went, “It only takes five years to make a good surgeon, but a surgeon needs ten years to become good at exposure.” Even excellent surgeons like Ling Ran could not become good at exposure within two or three years after starting their career.
Aside from this, the route and mode of exposure for different kinds of surgery were different. If Ling Ran only had a Level One Skill Book now, he would need to choose between Bone Exposure, Liver Exposure, Skull Exposure, and others.
However, with a Level Two Skill Book, he could master all of them…
Ling Ran did not spend too much time hesitating. He clicked on Exposure.
In a flash, a large amount of information entered Ling Ran’s brain.
Ling Ran swayed a little as he sat on his chair.
“Doctor Ling?” Yu Yuan asked vigilantly. Ling Ran’s body was extremely huge compared to hers. Hence, it seemed to her as if Ling Ran had swayed a lot.
“I’m okay. Hmm… we were talking about classification of hepatectomies done via large incisions, weren’t we? I feel like we can make some changes to the part about thoracoabdominal incisions.” As Ling Ran stared at the screen of his laptop, there were some changes to his thought process.
Yu Yuan looked like an obedient tabby cat. She hummed in acknowledgment and started to type on the keyboard with her “paws”.
Ling Ran also made some notes on his laptop as he pondered.
The emergency room became quiet.
The doctors who had something to do were using all their strength to type so that they appeared hardworking. The doctors who had nothing to do pretended that they had something to do. As they could put their full focus on putting on an act, they seemed even more hardworking than those who actually had something to do.
Even the money plant on the windowsill was pretending to look very healthy. Its leaves swayed with the light breeze, and it looked like a buff guy who had just done a set of fifteen squats. It looked like it had muscles as hard as that of a zombie’s, and its stem was trembling so violently that it was as if it was suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
*Creak*
The old-fashioned double door which had not been repainted for a long time was opened in a hurry.
The department director of the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery of Yun Hua City’s Sixth People’s Hospital, Song Shang entered the emergency room.
Song Shang had invited Ling Ran over for freelance surgeries twice, and one of them was for somebody he knew. That surgery was held in Yun Hua City’s Sixth People’s Hospital. Another time, it was when a patient was suffering from a major hemorrhage. He had called Ling Ran over to help out.
Compared to other doctors who he had only met once or twice, Song Shang knew Ling Ran pretty well.
However, Song Shang was not in the mood to make small talk. He looked around, and when he saw that there was no patient present, he immediately said, “Doctor Ling, the liver of one of my patients was accidentally sliced, and he’s bleeding nonstop right now. Can you come over to take a look?”
“The liver was accidentally sliced?” Ling Ran was extremely dumbfounded when he heard what Song Shang said.
“Sigh… This subordinate of mine is an idiot. He’s always in a hurry. It was just a simple bile duct surgery.” Song Shang covered his face in embarrassment. He was in disbelief over how incompetent his subordinate was. If it were not for the fact that he was afraid that the patient would die on the operating table, Song Shang would not have asked for help.
“Has the patient lost a lot of blood?” Ling Ran stood up as he spoke.
“It’s almost 80 ounces now,” Song Shang uttered a white lie. In reality, by the time he headed over, the patient had lost around 100 ounces of blood. However, he lowered the figure as he was worried that Ling Ran would not want to help.
Ling Ran nodded. After he put on a pair of scrubs, he strode toward the operating theater.
Song Shang followed him and thanked him as he explained the situation.
It was a very common occurrence in every hospital for doctors to ask for help from other surgeons during surgery.
The weak doctors would ask for help, and the excellent doctors would save the day. This was always how things went.
Ling Ran arrived at the operating theater in a hurry. He quickly washed his hands and got changed before he walked over to the operating theater.
The young doctor who was performing bleeding control had both of his hands soaked in blood. He looked lost, and he did not respond when he saw his department director as well as Ling Ran
“How much blood has the patient lost?” Ling Ran asked the anesthetist directly.
“A hundred and eight ounces,” the anesthetist said.
Ling Ran nodded. The patient was considered to be in a pretty critical condition to have lost this much blood. If they were not careful about it, the patient would end up in the morgue.
“Make way for Doctor Ling,” Song Shang reminded the young doctor, who was in a daze.
“There’s no need for that.” Ling Ran went opposite the young doctor and looked down at the patient’s abdominal cavity. He slowly said, “We will control the bleeding together.”
Song Shang went over to stand beside Ling Ran. He nodded a few times and reprimanded his subordinate. “Hurry up and thank Doctor Ling for giving you a chance to correct your mistake.”
Only then did the young doctor seem like he had regained his senses. He quickly said, “Thank you, Doctor Ling.”
Ling Ran hummed softly in acknowledgment. He then slowly extended his hand into the patient’s abdominal cavity.
