The Purgatory Mystic Realm was dark almost throughout the year. However, every twenty hours, a red light would shine down from the mystic realm’s sky, coloring the entire realm blood-red. The red light would shine over the realm for a full five minutes. These five minutes would be the most terrifying five minutes.
The moment Jiang Yi left the mountain peak with the teleportation formation, he did not stop for even a second. Instead, he flew as fast as he could. He wanted to go to a place, which the Wintry Sovereign spoke about in his letter. If he could reach there, the chances of him surviving this ordeal would increase greatly.
“Sword Emanations King!”
After sprinting for five minutes, the Fire Dragon Sword appeared in his hand. Out of a red beam of light, the Sword Emanations King emerged. Jiang Yi immediately gave it instructions to lead him towards the south as fast as it could.
The letter had made this very clear. Within billions of miles of the Teleportation Formation, there was only one safe place: under a divine tree five million kilometers south of the mountain. The Wintry Sovereign intimated that if Jiang Yi could not reach the divine tree, he would only have a ten percent chance of surviving this ordeal. If he could reach the tree, the chances of him surviving would be increased to sixty percent.
What was so special about that divine tree?
Jiang Yi had no idea, but the Wintry Sovereign would not harm him. He chose to trust him. Once the Sword Emanations King appeared, Jiang Yi grabbed its blade-like arm with a single hand. The Sword Emanations King flew at a crazy speed as Jiang Yi closed his eyes and entered the State of the Union of Heaven and Man.
The moment that the red light shone down on the mystic realm would be the beginning of the scariest five minutes in the Purgatory Mystic Realm. However, that did not mean that there ordinarily were no dangers in the realm. Contrarily, danger lay everywhere. What’s more, the longer one stayed in the realm, the more danger he would be in and the higher his chances of dying would be.
That was because there was a Demonic Repellent here!
Jiang Yi did not know exactly what this Demonic Repellent was because the letter did not make it explicit. However, it did contain a brief explanation about it. The Demonic Repellent could subtly affect a person’s soul spirit and drive them crazy. It could cause people to lose their senses, become demonized, and ultimately die.
In just fifteen minutes, Jiang Yi could feel the Demonic Repellent beginning to take effect!
All around him was the wilderness. The aura of death was intense, and it was so dark that he felt like he was being crushed by the darkness. Fifteen minutes later, he heard a frustrated noise coming from underground. This voice pierced right into Jiang Yi’s heart that the moment he heard it, his soul spirit shook. His heart raced, and his blood pressure increased. All the hairs on his body stood up while his muscles tensed.
Jiang Yi did not know where the noise was coming from or what beast was making the noise. However, at that moment, he felt like he had just been stabbed or like someone had just pushed him underwater so that he could hardly breathe. This feeling was unbearable. It made panic rise up in his chest. If Di Ling’er were here, Jiang Yi guessed that she would pass out right away on hearing the noise.
Swish!
The Sword Emanations King did not have a soul spirit so it was not in the least bit affected by the noise. It continued to pull Jiang Yi along as it flew. After a long while, Jiang Yi was finally able to breathe again. However, there was no sign of anything strange in his heart; neither was there any sign that he was going insane.
He pondered deeply, confused by this turn of events. Ten minutes later, his closed eyes suddenly opened wide. The black pearl in his hands was flashing. Countless Sword Emanations Race beings were being teleported out of the pearl.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
In the pitch-blackness darkness underneath him, layers of soil broke apart. One by one, black figures shot out of the ground, like the Netherworld Realm’s malicious spirits. An ice-cold aura engulfed Jiang Yi at once, causing his entire body to freeze up.
“Kill!”
Jiang Yi shouted in a low voice. More than ten thousand Sword Emanations Race beings which he transported out began to fight with the black figures below. At the same time, Jiang Yi instructed the Sword Emanations King to keep flying without turning back.
He had used his divine senses to get a clear picture of the black figures below. Those were monsters with human-like bodies and beast-like faces. These monsters had sharp claws for their four limbs, and their bodies were covered in black scaled. They were mysterious beasts that were unique to the Purgatory Mystic Realm, and they were called Lunar Beasts!
The Wintry Sovereign had written one sentence about them in his handwritten letter: if you bump into Lunar Beasts, you cannot engage in battle with them. The moment you allow them to engage you in battle, your death will be sealed!
Thus, when Jiang Yi sensed the thousands of Lunar Beasts below, he immediately summoned more than ten thousand Sword Emanations Race beings and sent them to fend off the beasts. Without the Sword Emanations Race beings holding the fort, the Sword Emanations King alone would not be able to help Jiang Yi escape. The Lunar Beasts moved too quickly. Strong Lunar Beasts moved at a speed at least comparable to the Sword Emanations King.
Swish! Swish!
The Lunar Beasts really did move very quickly. Tens of strong Lunar Beasts turned into beams of black light. Without any regard for the Sword Emanations Race beings, they charged straight towards Jiang Yi and the Sword Emanations King. As the tens of strong Lunar Beasts flew, Jiang Yi felt chilling winds blow past him, which caused him to straighten his spine. Even his soul spirit was trembling. The fear he felt surfaced from his very gut!
It was not that Jiang Yi had no guts. He had met many other demonic beasts like these. When he was ten years younger, he entered the Mystic Thearch Palace and fought corpses and dead beasts in Fengdu City. Beasts that looked terrifying and ugly on the outside no longer scared him. The reason he felt this fear in his heart was the cool winds, and the unique aura that the Lunar Beasts emanated.
He turned around to look and saw ten green faces staring back at him, baring sharp teeth. There were ten pairs of green eyes as well, which glinted evilly, and caused his soul spirit to shake once again. He was rendered motionless.
Swish!
The Lunar Beasts were moving just a bit faster than the Sword Emanations King. The distance between them and Jiang Yi was closing up, but Jiang Yi was still scared stiff by the Lunar Beasts. He watched as they came closer and closer.
Hoo-Hoo!
The Lunar Beasts’ mouths—which contained green, sharp teeth—suddenly opened as they spat out green gas. They used their claw-like limbs to cause the green gas to circulate. Jiang Yi could only imagine what would become of him if one of those claws got a hold of him.
Buzz!
The Xiaozhuan characters in Jiang Yi’s soul spirit emerged in a flash. Jiang Yi’s soul spirit, which had been scared stiff by the Lunar Beasts, suddenly got yanked back to reality. He looked at the Lunar Beasts which were now much closer—just three hundred meters away from him, and his heart jumped. Very quickly, he closed his eyes, refusing to look at the beasts any longer.
Buzz!
The Wintry Pearl in his hand began flashing, summoning hundreds more Sword Emanations Race beings, which stopped the tens of Lunar Beasts. Jiang Yi sent his divine senses to sweep the area. He wanted to check how strong the Lunar Beasts were in terms of battle skills.
At last, he was frightened. The Wintry Sovereign did not lie to him indeed. These tens of Lunar Beasts’ claws were frightening. Each time they attacked, the Sword Emanations Race beings’ bodies were torn into pieces. One Sword Emanations Race being only managed to get five attacks in before it got reduced to dust. They were not of the same tier at all.
Buzz!
Jiang Yi dared not be too careless. He quickly summoned hundreds more Sword Emanations Race beings and sent them to back the others up. As much as possible, he wanted to prevent the Lunar Beasts from chasing after him.
Hoo-Hoo!
It was not until the Sword Emanations Race brought him more than five kilometers away that the Lunar Beasts’ terrifying aura no longer affected Jiang Yi. Jiang Yi let out a long sigh of relief, fear still evident on his expression. If his Xiaozhuan characters had not appeared in time and the Sword Emanations Race beings caught hold of him, he would not have given the orders for the Sword Emanations King to protect its owner. If the Lunar Beasts were allowed to get any closer and slice him a couple of times with their claws, he would be reduced to powder, just like the Sword Emanations Race beings.
Gong!
Another frustrated noise came from underground. Jiang Yi’s heart felt like it had been stabbed again. His soul spirit kept getting shaken. The Demonic Repellent was here again. At that moment, the ground in front of him began to break apart as well, and black flashes of light shot upwards towards him. This was not the right time. There were Lunar Beasts below, too.
“Can I survive for three days in here?”
Jiang Yi looked downwards at the dense group of Lunar Beasts. The frustrated noise was still echoing inside his soul spirit. At that moment, he suddenly realized something. The Wintry Sovereign was right. If he could not reach the bottom of that divine tree, he would not be able to survive a single day!
