At a remote corner inside the living hall, a middle-aged woman who was well-dressed and well-kept was standing before a man who looked much younger than her. She was glaring indignantly at a certain woman in front of her.
The other woman, who was about the same age as her, was sitting on the floor not far away from her. The woman looked stunned. She touched the side of her face in disbelief.
Next to her, the overturned table and the broken glass were laying in a mess.
Zhao Youlin and the rest of her group were greeted by such a sight when they arrived. Zhao Youlin paused mid-stride. When she was assured that Duan Yarong and Han Yichen were fine, she heaved a sigh of relief.
The next moment, she cast a glance at the mess scattered around the floor and the woman sitting on the edge of the wreckage. She narrowed her eyes and said in a low voice, “The banquet has not officially started. But I see that someone has already put up a good show.”
“Huh?” An Yue froze. She looked at Zhao Youlin in puzzlement.
Zhao Youlin did not say anything. She carried Joy and quietly stood at the side. She did not intend to go over and help.
Sun Fengzi had been taken to the birthday banquet as soon as she got off the plane. Moreover, the main character of this banquet was none other than her long-standing rival. As such, her mood was already foul from the beginning.
To make things worse, Zhao Yifei had thrown his tantrum at her before this. It was understandable that his son had been in a bad mood due to his health issue. However, anger had already built up in her.
Of course, she could not possibly vent her anger at her precious son. Therefore, the well-pampered, wealthy lady had matter-of-factly put all the blame on the main character of the banquet.
She thought that the reason she had become Zhao Yifei’s punching bag so pitifully was because he had been asked to join the banquet right after he had gotten down from the plane. He might also have been unhappy because he might run into Zhao Youlin in the mansion.
Thinking of this, Sun Fengzi’s expression grew darker. The moment she walked into the living hall, she did not bother to greet those noble and famous men and women from the business field and upper-class society who intended to ride on her coattail. Instead, she only wanted to look for a place to settle down until the banquet ended so that she could immediately leave it.
But this one particular saying was true: the world is a small place.
Sun Fengzi had wanted to look for a place to pass the time. As she was looking for one, she found Duan Yarong.
Sun Fengzi was stunned when she saw Duan Yarong from afar. By the time she got a clearer sight, she saw a young man sitting opposite Duan Yarong, and they were chatting happily.
Duan Yarong had even stretched out her hand to hold the man’s hand. They looked very intimate together.
Sun Fengzi’s eyes immediately lit up. Without giving it a second thought, she walked toward them.
Zhao Shunchang was following behind her. When he saw this, he discreetly cussed to himself and had wanted to stop Sun Fengzi. However, it was already too late.
Sun Fengzi slowly walked up to Duan Yarong and Han Yichen. She acted like she was surprised to see Duan Yarong and chuckled, “Oh, dear! Isn’t this the main character of our banquet today? Why did you come to such a small corner?”
Duan Yarong was talking to Han Yichen. Suddenly, she heard a familiar, mean voice rise from the side. The smile on her face instantly faded. She turned her head around and looked at Sun Fengzi as she said coldly, “When did you return to the country? Why didn’t you tell us when you came back?”
It would have been better had Duan Yarong not said this. The moment she did, Sun Fengzi grew increasingly furious. She blurted out harsher words, “Zhao Shunrong and you are usually very busy. Why would you even care when we return to the country? However, it’s a coincidence that the moment we got off the plane, we received Father’s phone call. He called to make sure that we could rush back to join a certain person’s banquet. Hah! I even wonder when the certain person was given such a huge honor in just a few months’ time that the family would hold a birthday banquet for her with such fanfare.”
“Fengzi, watch your words, would you?” Upon hearing this, finally, Zhao Shunchang could no longer hold himself back. He went forward and pulled Sun Fengzi’s hand. He advised her in a low voice. However, Sun Fengzi glared at him fiercely in return.
“Did I say anything wrong?” Sun Fengzi sneered. She pulled her hand out from Zhao Shunchang’s hand.
Han Yichen sat opposite Duan Yarong and had never spoken a word. However, right after Sun Fengzi said the words to Duan Yarong, a trace of bone-chilling light flashed across his eyes.
It looked like this woman was very hostile to his mother.
When he recalled how Duan Yarong had addressed Sun Fengzi, Han Yichen soon figured out who she was. He speculated that the two people were his third uncle and third aunt; the ones who had sent his younger cousin overseas to “cure” his sickness.
He learned about the various disputes among his third aunt with Duan Yarong and Zhao Youlin after he had someone to investigate for him. The information unwittingly organized itself in his mind. Han Yichen’s expression grew increasingly dark.
Upon hearing her words, Duan Yarong was a little embarrassed as well. If possible, she really did not want to bump into Sun Fengzi at this moment. More so, she did not want Han Yichen to be involved in the dispute between her and Sun Fengzi. Unfortunately, the woman refused to be left alone and insisted to drag Han Yichen into their argument.
“I say, Yarong, why are you staying alone with this man in such a secluded corner? Does Shunrong know about this?”
“What?” Duan Yarong was stunned. She did not understand the underlying meaning of Sun Fengzi’s words.
“Enough. Fengzi, you should speak less.” Zhao Shunchang broke out in cold sweat as he went forward to pull Sun Fengzi’s hand once again. He turned his head around and flashed Duan Yarong an embarrassed smile as he said, “Yarong, Fengzi is only joking around. I hope you don’t mind.”
“Darn it! Why are you pulling me? Let go of me! Who is your wife now?! Is it me or her?! Why do you keep siding with her?!”
Sun Fengzi furrowed her eyebrows. She pulled her hand out of Zhao Sunchang’s with force and pushed him away mercilessly. She then turned her head around fiercely and sneered at Duan Yarong, “What? Are you afraid of being gossiped about by others? I must say, Duan Yarong, you are a despicable bitch! You are a married woman, yet you still shamelessly seduce other men at all times. Look at you. You are already old. You are an old woman and worthless! How dare you still have the guts to seduce a man who can be your son? Don’t you feel ashamed?! Can’t Shunrong satisfy you in bed?! You are so desperate that you even want to seduce a man during your own birthday banquet?! Are you seriously that cheap?!”
This time, Duan Yarong finally understood Sun Fengzi’s words. Her expression instantly changed.
“What nonsense are you spewing about?!”
“Nonsense?” Sun Fengzi gave Duan Yarong a mocking look. “Dare you say you don’t have a secret affair with this man? Did you seriously think that everyone is blinded and can’t identify the adulterous affair between you guys?!”
When she said this, Sun Fengzi in turn targeted Han Yichen and said meanly, “Mister, judging from your appearance, I suppose you are only in your twenties, right? Why are you so blinded that you even lay your eyes on this old woman who is in her forties? Or, shall I say, instead of lusting for her, you are actually coming after her wealth? This makes more sense. After all, this old woman has nothing but wealth. You two are pursuing your own interest respectively and are equally shameless!”
