It was already after the middle of the afternoon, and the sunlight was weakening.
It was difficult for the light to reach the underground world, and it slowly darkened.
Bei Xu shook his trembling hands. He immediately started to clean up the dead Rock Hermit Insect.
First, he used the sharpened rock to cut out the Rock Hermit Insect’s eyes and plucked out two bean-sized soft bones.
These two soft bones were extremely special and could emit faint light to illuminate the dark world he lived in.
Bei Xu cradled the two soft bones like they were treasures and started to carefully separate the Rock Hermit Insect’s armor.
After he was done separating the armor, he cut out the white wings that were almost two meters long.
Bei Xu proceeded to cut out the insect fat below and cut out two shining pieces of flesh from within.
Now, he tossed the Rock Hermit Insect aside.
Bei Xu had finished separating out all the usable parts of the Rock Hermit Insect and would reach its organs if he cut any deeper.
The Rock Hermit Insect could digest the hard weeds that grew underground because its digestive fluids were extremely corrosive.
This was its greatest weapon.
Even if Bei Xu did not touch the digestive fluids himself, the sharpened rock would also be corroded away.
Bei Xu had spent three days sharpening the rock and could not allow it to be ruined so easily.
He carefully placed the parts of the Rock Hermit Insect that he had separated out in his hiding spot except for the insect oil.
Next, he carefully set up the slab of rock again.
Bei Xu cut open his stitches and wiped them over with the insect oil.
He sighed to himself.
“With this insect oil, I won’t have to worry about infection even though it’ll still take a while for my leg to heal.”
He forcefully wrapped the injury up again and dragged the insect carcass to the river that was a kilometer away.
Bei Xu pushed the carcass into the river.
As he looked around at his pitch-black surroundings, Bei Xu felt his way back to his hiding spot.
Bei Xu did not feel at ease and pushed a second slab of rock against the entrance before he lay down the wings and sat down on top.
With the faint light from the soft bone, Bei Xu cut a few pieces of the flesh using the sharpened rock.
He did not scarf down the flesh and stopped once he had eaten the bare minimum.
Bei Xu cut the flesh thinly and laid it on the rocks to dry so they could be stored and consumed later.
Under the dim light, the exhausted Bei Xu forced himself to stay awake for a few more hours before he lay down and fell into a deep sleep on his new bed.
The sleeping Bei Xu smiled slowly as though he was looking forward to dreaming about something.
In the Azure Federation…
Yin Lin gently lifted her head and looked at her colorful world.
In the last six days, Yin Lin had thrown away her beloved books and taken in as much of this world that she had spent her whole life imagining as she could.
Although she could not see clearly, she still could not get enough of it.
At that moment, Yin Lin saw a human figure approach her.
She sniffed and asked, “Mom, why are you back so early today? It’s not even tea time yet.”
Next to Yin Lin was an elegant middle-aged woman dressed in a long azure skirt. She reached out and gently caressed Yin Lin’s face like she was stroking treasure.
Shortly after, she waved, and two furry creatures appeared in her arms.
The two creatures were very energetic and looked around curiously. They also let out high-pitched sounds every once in a while.
The middle-aged woman asked, “Lin Lin, have your eyes been okay during the last few days?”
A wide and beautiful smile spread across Yin Lin’s calm face. She seemed happy to be able to see the world.
“Mom, I’m still only able to see colors, light, and shapes. But I should be able to see everything after tomorrow.”
The middle-aged woman shot a look of pained affection at Yin Lin and assumed Yin Lin was only saying so to comfort her.
The middle-aged woman was already content that Yin Lin could see light, colors, and shapes.
She also started to blame herself again.?If only I had been more careful, I wouldn’t have fallen for the trap and caused Yin Lin to be born blind.
“Lin Lin, one of these is the Spirit White Lion that is passed down by your father’s family, and the other is the Azure Cloud Leopard that is passed down by my family. Both are compatible with your Willpower Runes. Why don’t you form contracts with them? This way, you’ll have two more friends to accompany you aside from me, Dad, the butler, and Si Si.”
Yin Lin did not immediately reach out to receive the Spirit White Lion and Azure Cloud Leopard. Instead, she asked in shock, “Aren’t the Spirit White Lion and Azure Cloud Leopard—”
Before Yin Lin could finish her question, her mother said, “When you couldn’t see anything, your father had decided to create a simple and peaceful environment for you. Thus, we never told you about anything that happened at home. But now that you can see a blurry version of this world, it’s best that you have these two feys by your side to protect you.”
Yin Lin’s clear head was suddenly slightly dizzy.
She had just heard that her father’s family passed down the Spirit White Lion while her mother’s family passed down the Azure Cloud Leopard.
These were two feys that she had read about many times in the history books about the Azure Federation.
As one of the three main federations, the Azure Federation was vast and prosperous.
The major families in the Azure Federation all had iconic feys that they passed down the generations.
The families had strict rankings like Creation Masters.
The Spirit White Lion was the iconic fey of the Class 4 Yin family.
The Azure Cloud Leopard was the iconic fey of the Class 5 Guan family.
There were only eight Class 5 families in the Azure Continent, and their iconic feys were considered the pride of the federation.
Yin Lin had always known that her father’s surname was Yin while her mother’s surname was Guan.
However, she never expected that her status would be so prominent.
