1820 Concubine Sweet Conch
No matter how powerful Na Na and Lu Ou were, once the Beast Spirit’s Soul replaced the Disaster World Faceless Beast’s soul, they would be unable to retrieve it.
…
The clear surface of the lake glinted with flecks of pink light.
A group of strange-looking purple clamshells was continuously spitting out pink pearls.
The light from the pearls blanketed the other lifeforms in the lake.
Under the illumination of the pink light, the scales of the aquatic feys changed intermittently.
A few large fusiform-shaped fish swam up to the surface of the lake.
Their scales gleamed with pink light, and they chomped a school of small fish in half.
Normally, unless a special bloodline is involved, the blood and organs of fish-species feys should be dark red.
The small fish from the school of fish all looked extremely ordinary, but their organs and flesh were pink and red.
Two girls dressed in pink dresses and veils covering their faces had expressions of mixed fear and shock behind the veils.
They held two large pails and poured small fish into the lake.
Before the fish entered the water, their scales were light green. The blood that flowed out from them when they crashed into each other was also red.
But a moment after they entered the water, their scales all turned pink.
One of the girls said, “When Lordess Na Na brought Lord Lu Ou back, she had been livid. Even Lord Lu Ou, who’s usually smiling, hasn’t turned his frown upside down yet! Do you think something serious happened?”
The other girl hurriedly reached out her hand and clapped her hand over the veiled mouth of the girl who had spoken and replied, “Nico, watch your words! We don’t have the right to discuss matters regarding Lordess Na Na and Lord Lu Ou! The many previous lessons should have warned you. Why haven’t you learned to keep your mouth shut yet?”
The girl named Nico hastily slapped a hand over her mouth so she would not say anything else.
Her terror only eased a while later.
She changed the topic and said to the girl next to her, “Nero, Lord Lu Ou’s child beast should have come to the lake last night to eat the fish that have transformed their bloodlines to obtain the Concubine Sweet Conch’s light. This pattern has not broken once since the day he formed a contract with the child Disaster World Faceless Beast.”
A look of confusion also came over Nero’s face.
She could not shake the feeling that something had gone wrong on Lord Lu Ou’s trip to the Radiance Federation.
Nonetheless, all she could do was sigh and push the questions out of her head because she knew that she was nothing more than a servant whose job was to prepare the Disaster World Faceless Beast’s food. There was no point in her being concerned by anything else.
There was a grandiose palace about three kilometers from the lake.
There were many pink decorations within the castle.
The statue of a short-furred beast sat on the tip of the castle’s sharp point.
If Lin Yuan could see the statue, he would immediately recognize it as the Disaster World Faceless Beast.
At that moment, due to the anger of the castle’s mistress, all the servants inside the castle were trembling as they lay prone on the ground. It was as though they were afraid that they might incur her wrath and end up as a bloody stain on the golden carpet.
A standing woman was draped under a cloak of pink and white fur that gleamed with faint pink light that resembled the same shade of light that the Concubine Sweet Conch emitted.
The woman had an expression of grief and anger as she looked at Lu Ou reproachingly.
But she seemed to be unable to fully blame Lu Ou because of Na Na.
This woman not only suppressed her reproachful feelings toward Lu Ou but also felt bad for him. Evidently, she had great affection for Lu Ou.
The woman seated on the throne did not speak to the woman next to her.
The tension in the hall was almost palpable.
This environment caused the servants to even try and keep their trembling to a minimum.
However, none of this affected the silver-haired young man.
His eyes were closed as though he was sensing something.
A moment later, he opened his eyes and said to the woman on the throne, “Mother, I can sense that Little Disaster is still alive. My spiritual energy is still intact! Mother, help me come up with a way to get Little Disaster back!”
The servants did not seem to find the way the silver-haired young man addressed the woman to be strange.
But if anyone else heard it, their jaws would drop.
All the experts who were favored by the Freedom Federation’s royalty had guessed that Lu Ou was Na Na’s child because she treated him way too well. Not even the Mirror God and the God of Fools treated their disciples half as well as how Na Na treated Lu Ou.
However, these were all guesses that arose out of envy and jealousy. Even if all of them voiced it, they would not believe it to be true.
After all, Na Na had never been married.
Na Na looked at Lu Ou and gently patted his soft silver hair as she replied, “If there was a way, I would never have allowed Little Disaster to stay in the Radiance Federation. But, we don’t have evidence that it is trapped in the soul of the Moon Empress’ disciple.
“Even if you can prove it, the people from the Radiance Federation would never allow us to carry out the investigation. They will never release Little Disaster, no matter how much resources I’m willing to pay. The same would go for us if we had defeated them and obtained one of their special feys.”
Although she seemed to be comforting Lu Ou, her fists clenched up.
Resentment bubbled up within her and distorted her facial features.
Her hatred had even broken through the shell of aloofness that every member of royalty had trained to keep on their face.
At that moment, the object of Na Na’s loathing was not the Radiance Federation, Lin Yuan, or the Moon Empress, but the Goddess of Mercy and Li Yang.
If Li Yang had not asked to take Lu Ou with him, Lu Ou would never have left the castle. If Lu Ou had not left the castle, nothing would have happened to him.
The promises that Li Yang had made to her only stoked the flames of her rage.
However, the hatred she felt for Li Yang was less than 10% of what she felt for the Goddess of Mercy.
Na Na would not have been forced into such an unfavorable position if not for the Goddess of Mercy.
