At eight in the morning, the rush hour traffic in Qingshui City was at its peak. Tie Xiaohu’s Audi crawled like a snail.
Luckily, Ling Yun had nothing planned today. There was no hurry. It was approaching nine when he reached the City Ninth People’s Hospital.
They were familiar with the place from their earlier visit. They went straight to the neurology ward on the seventh floor after the car was parked.
After they couldn’t find Li Yunxiang in his ward, they learned with surprise that Li Yunxiang had been discharged three days ago.
Li Yunxiang had woken up from a month of coma suddenly. He had been able to get up and walk the next day and had been discharged after another two days. He was now a case study for serious brain injury and was famous throughout the City Ninth People’s Hospital.
Ling Yun’s treatment had brought about Li Yunxiang’s miracle recovery. However, the City Ninth People’s Hospital had seized the chance to promote themselves with it.
Ling Yun and Tie Xiaohu found it ridiculous. The doctors didn’t have much skill to be proud of but were undeniably shameless.
Ling Yun, however, didn’t want to make a scene. Ling Yun gave Liu Li a call as they left the hospital.
Half an hour later, Ling Yun found Liu Li’s home from her directions. Li Yunxiang, Liu Li and their mother were standing outside their door waiting for them.
Ling Yun grimaced at their living conditions. Li Yunxiang had rented a low-rise bungalow in an environment worse than where his mother’s clinic used to be. “Is the two hundred thousand from last night still in the car?” Ling Yun asked Tie Xiaohu.
“I left it in the trunk since Song Zhengyang didn’t want it,” Tie Xiaohu replied
“Bring it along when we get off the car,” Ling Yun directed.
The Audi came to a stop in front of Li Yunxiang’s house. A visibly pregnant Liu Li stepped out to welcome Ling Yun before he exited the car. Her eyes were filled with excitement.
“Big Sister Liu, what are you doing coming all the way out to welcome me in your condition?!” Ling Yun gave Liu Li a warm smile.
They were on good terms from the previous meetings. Even though they had not met each other for the last six days, they were still very friendly with each other.
Liu Li saw Ling Yun as a younger brother. “This is nothing. I am only five months pregnant! Come with your elder sister into the house!” Liu Li greeted affably.
Ling Yun greeted both Li Yunxiang and Mother Li before entering their dilapidated courtyard.
Mother Li was swift. She reappeared from the house and wiped the prepared bench again before inviting Ling Yun to sit.
Ling Yun didn’t stand on ceremony and sat down. Mother Li nudged Li Yunxiang on the side. “Yunxiang, what are you doing? Quickly prostate yourself in front of your benefactor! He is the benefactor of our whole family!”
That shocked Ling Yun, who stood up immediately. He rushed to Li Yunxiang to stop him from doing that. “Aunty, what are you doing? I didn’t treat Brother Li for this. It is really not necessary!”
Mother Li’s face was full of tears of gratitude and joy. She wiped them away and said indignantly, “Ling Yun, I told Yunxiang before you came that he has to prostrate himself. We invited you in first because there were too many people outside. You saved my whole family…”
Mother Li choked on her words as more tears poured forth.
There was a saying that saving a life was more meritorious than building a seven-floor pagoda. The sincerity and heartfelt gratitude from the Li Family was obvious to both Ling Yun and Tie Xiaohu.
Of course, Ling Yun was not there to receive their gratitude. Mother Li was finally persuaded out of the prostration after much hard work from both Ling Yun and Tie Xiaohu.
“Ling Yun, take a seat, and let’s have a good chat. I’ll buy some stuff while the morning market is still open. You have to have lunch with us…” Mother Li’s enthusiasm was over the charts.
“Aunty, I am only here to see how Brother Yunxiang is recovering. I am happy as long as he is recovering well. I won’t be staying for lunch.” Ling Yun tried to refuse in a roundabout way.
Mother Li pretended to be mad at Ling Yun’s rejection. “Child, you are our benefactor. You came such a long away and didn’t allow us to properly pay our respects to you. Now you aren’t even staying for lunch. How can I face you in the future?”
Ling Yun turned to Liu Li for help. He was unable to answer.
Liu Li snickered with a bright smile but refused to help. “My brother, Elder Sister knows you are busy, but please stay for a meal since you are here. If not, my whole family won’t be able to face you in the future.”
Ling Yun could only agree with a bitter smile. An overjoyed Mother Li sent Ling Yun back to his seat and went off happily.
“Brother Li, how are you feeling?”
Ling Yun found Li Yunxiang to be a reserved person. He rarely spoke even though he was at home.
“Brother, thank you. I am completely cured now!” Li Yunxiang said as he rubbed his head.
Ling Yun’s sharp eyes noticed the ugly ten inch scar on Li Yunxiang’s head when he came in. Ling Yun got up and said, “Brother Li, please show me to your bedroom.”
Li Yunxiang stood up immediately and showed Ling Yun to the bedroom west of the narrow living room.
Ling Yun stood behind Li Yunxiang and took out a healing talisman from his spatial ring. He stuck it gently behind Li Yunxiang’s head and chanted “come!” in his heart.
A confused Li Yunxiang felt a cool sensation on his head and was about to ask Ling Yun about it when he saw Ling Yun walking back to the living room.
“What did you go there for? So mysterious!” Liu Li asked curiously.
She froze when she saw Li Yunxiang!
He had just had his gauze removed. His hair had yet to grow out. Therefore, Liu Li could see very clearly that Li Yunxiang’s scar had disappeared completely as though it had never been injured!
“What…!” Liu Li stood up from her seat and stared at Li Yunxiang’s head. “Yunxiang, your… your head…”
It was then that Li Yunxiang realized with astonishment that his scar had healed!
Ling Yun had saved Li Yunxiang’s life, helped Liu Li keep her fetus and had even given them forty thousand yuan. That had made them very grateful.
Liu Li’s only regret was the ugly scar on Li Yunxiang’s head. But now, it had been healed in the blink of an eye. How could they keep their cool?
“Why are you still standing there? Look at yourself in the mirror!” Liu Li urged her man in agitation. She then turned towards Ling Yun.
“Brother, you… what magic did you use this time? This is too…” Liu Li couldn’t find the right words to express herself.
“Big Sister Liu, these are trivial matters. Don’t be too agitated lest it affects your baby.” Ling Yun chuckled.
What was done was done. Ling Yun didn’t want to explain too much.
Liu Li was a clever person. She knew better than to continue her questioning since Ling Yun didn’t want to say anything. However, she did see Ling Yun in another light.
Ling Yun gave Tie Xiaohu a signal after Li Yunxiang came back from the mirror. Tie Xiaohu gently placed the bag he was carrying in front of Li Yunxiang.
“Brother Li, I came in a hurry today. Please keep this money and rent a better house to stay in for the time being. I will arrange for someone to buy a house in the city for you to live in.”
Ling Yun spoke directly to Li Yunxiang since he was the head of the household even though he was closer to Liu Li.
“W-what?!” Liu Li was seriously doubting her own ears.
Li Yunxiang was gaping. Even though he was quiet, he definitely was not stupid. Everything that had happened after Ling Yun had cured him seemed like a miracle. He even suspected that everything was a hallucination and that he hadn’t actually woken up from the coma!
Liu Li recovered from her trance after a full minute. She rejected the bag of cash without so much as a look at it. “Brother, you have already done so much for us. We will never be able to repay you within this lifetime. We’ll never accept the money and house!”
Li Yunxiang recovered as well and expressed the same sentiments as his wife.
Ling Yun came prepared with an explanation. “Big Sister Liu, you have to accept it. Big Sister Liu, do you remember the brush you gave me? I found out that the brush is superior to ordinary brushes after using it and therefore asked a collector friend about it.”
Ling Yun fabricated a story that the brush had good collectible value and could fetch up to seven or eight hundred thousand yuan if given to someone who knew how to sell it.
“Big Sister Liu, how can I pretend not to know its value now that I do? Therefore, you can accept the money and the house with pride as they are rightfully yours. I’ll be uneasy otherwise,” Ling Yun concluded with a grin.
“Brother Ling Yun, you are such a good honest man…”
