I looked at him. “You’re a very horrible storyteller, do you know that? You have omitted so much!”
Gu Nian smiled, “The incident is a coincidence, so there’s not much to tell. But as for you, I heard that you’d annihilated one of the Crows’ sect. Sister Xing, your name has spread among the underworld. People say you have your mother’s style. You’ve lived up to her legacy.”
I raised my eyebrows. No one had told me about this.
Then again, Jing Tian and my little uncle wouldn’t tell me. Jing Ni and Mai Qi were in the same boat as I was. They didn’t know anything.
Regardless, I said indifferently, “Actually, we didn’t even know that was the Crows’ sect. The leader said he owed Master Shi his life, and he wanted to take revenge for Young Master Shi. He wanted to kill the three of us! Master Liu, think about it! If they didn’t die, we would! This had nothing to do with Sister Xing. It was a matter of survival. Plus, Sister Xing is just a title you all gave me on account of Jing Tian and my little uncle. I am merely thick-skinned enough to accept it. Haha.”
Gu Nian looked at me and sighed. “Nanxing, your magnanimity is really something that makes people have no choice but to like you!”
I was so frightened that I took a step back. I couldn’t help but laugh. “Stop it, Master Liu. You know how jealous Jing Tian can get.”
Gu Nian was a gentleman. He smiled. “Nanxing, my promise to you is always valid.”
I laughed dryly. I had to change this topic.
Thankfully, Gu Nian could sense my discomfort. “The peace of the underworld has been broken. When the Shi Family fell, all sorts of ghouls and ghosts crawled out of their hiding space. Some of them came after Master Gu Er. That day, Master Gu Er was negotiating a new business. Then they ran into two groups in dispute. Suddenly, it turned into a firefight. No one expected Lu Yan to react so quickly. She reacted faster than Ye Qian, who was standing beside Master Gu Er. She jumped over to shield Master Gu Er. Master Gu Er was safe, but the bullet hit Lu Yan. It was very dangerous.”
Gu Nian shrugged. “So, is this a better version of the story?”
I smiled. “I think I get the gist of it now. I will visit Lu Yan tonight. For now, I have to go look after Jing Ni.”
Gu Nian nodded. “You have to look after yourself too. After all, I still owe you a meal for introducing to me such a good assistant.”
I nodded with a smile.
Even though Jing Tian warned me about Gu Nian, I still felt he was a good man. Then again, I knew I shouldn’t underestimate anyone who was a member of the Seven Brothers.
When I returned to the ward, Mai Qi was sitting beside Jing Ni’s bed, eating an apple and playing on her phone.
I glanced at Jing Ni and kicked the corner of Mai Qi’s chair. “I asked you to help me take care of the patient. Why are you enjoying yourself instead?”
Mai Qi raised her bandaged arm. “I’m a patient too. You should be thankful that I can take care of me.”
Jing Ni smiled, “Why are you being so serious with her?”
Mai Qi smiled proudly, “I knew Jing Ni would help me because from now on, Jing Ni is my family!”
Jing Ni looked a little embarrassed.
I said lightly, “Fine. Jing Ni can be yours because I shall find myself a new little aunt!”
Mai Qi choked on her apple.
I quickly patted her back. “What’s wrong? Why are you acting like this when I mention my little uncle?
Mai Qi pushed me away. “Shoo, shoo. All you know is to talk nonsense all day!”
I giggled before I said, “Lu Yan has just saved Master Gu Er. She’s injured and is in the hospital.”
Maggie and Jing Ni were stunned.
“So fast? So coincidental? So impressive?” Mai Qi was startled.
