Mai Qi snickered. “Then why did she ask to find you? To make friends?”
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Mai Qi had a talent for stumbling into the right answer. I nodded. “Actually, you are right.”
Mai Qi’s eyes widened. “Really? She did that?” She turned around, “The girl is really full of surprises.”
I patted her on the shoulder. “Calm down, my dear princess. Anything is possible. It’s not that surprising.”
She shook her head and sighed, “Why did she have to choose you? That woman sure is vicious!”
“What do you mean by that?” I looked at her with a smile.
She rolled her eyes at me. “I was praising you! So many people are fighting me for you. Am I lucky or unlucky?”
I laughed. “Why, thank you.” We joked around and we sat down on the floor after we got tired. “Mai Qi, what kind of person is your big brother?”
Mai Qi’s eyes lit up. “My brother? Nanxing, are you going to leave Jing Tian?”
I gasped, “Of course not!”
She pouted, “I thought there is some problem between you and Jing Tian. And you’re looking for a backup plan!” She leaned closer to me. “Nanxing, let me tell you, my brother should be your first backup. Actually, if you ask me, my brother is not worse than Jing Tian. Jing Tian is lucky to have met you first, or else my brother would have a chance.”
Qu Hao’s gentle appearance flashed in my mind. He did have a similarity to Jing Tian. They were both hard to read but I was naturally guarded around Qu Hao. There was something chilling about him. Jing Tian had a natural nonchalance. He didn’t care about anything because no one could take anything from him. He had a natural confidence and ease. I nodded and signaled Mai Qi to continue.
“My brother and I followed our respective mother’s surnames. After his mother passed away, my father took him under his wings so they have a very good relationship.
“My brother was kidnapped when he was young. After he was rescued, my father sent him secretly overseas. I was about 5 or 6 at the time. I was very close to him but after he went overseas we could only meet once or twice each year. In my heart, he is the best man in this world… after your little uncle of course. The girl who marries my brother will be the happiest woman in the world!” Mai Qi’s eyes glowed.
“Nanxing, so what do you think? Are you going to consider my brother?” Mai Qi looked at me with a smile. I ignored her.
She huffed. “My brother is a really good man! If there’s a chance, I’ll introduce you two!”
“I’ve already met him,” I said.
“What?” Mai Qi was petrified.
“I’ve met your brother. To be exact, I knew your brother since we were young. However, I couldn’t remember much about it. I was kidnapped along with your brother.”
Mai Qi’s mouth widened. “Really? Nanxing, this is fate! You two are meant to be. Nanxing, marry my brother! You’ve known each other since you’re young and went through the horrible tragedy together!” Mai Qi shook my arms.
I grabbed her hands and told her to calm down. I rolled my eyes. “In that case, I have to marry a lot of people because the children kidnapped include Jing Ning, Nanyang, Gu Yan, your brother, me, and Jing Tian!”
“Huh?” Mai Qi was dumbfounded.
