Even An Jing didn’t continue to care about this matter. After eating, everyone returned to the dormitory chatting and laughing.
Tomorrow morning, they still had to continue their hike up the rest of the mountain. Chi Jiao and the rest rested early.
The lights were switched off at 10 o’clock. The field remained lit, and the dorm was silent.
Around midnight, Chi Jiao was woken up by the little pink lizard sleeping on the pillow. Its tail hit the bridge of her nose heavily.
“This little thing…” Chi Jiao held the bridge of her nose and sat up straight. She looked at the little pink lizard sleeping beside her and felt very helpless.
Coincidentally, she felt thirsty and got out of bed to get some water.
In the end, Chi Jiao glanced out of the window and was surprised to see a chubby figure walking past the wall and out of the gate.
“Is that Uncle Da Liu? It’s so late. Why isn’t he sleeping?” Chi Jiao muttered in confusion before suddenly recalling An Jing’s words.
After some thought, Chi Jiao changed her clothes and followed him with the little pink lizard.
Da Liu couldn’t sense her aura at all. He didn’t know that he had been followed the entire way. He stumbled down the mountain and arrived at a spot.
Puzzled, Chi Jiao followed behind him and realized that the forest in front of her looked very familiar.
Wasn’t this the small wooden house where the large black dog was kept?
An idea instantly formed in Chi Jiao’s mind. She quickly hid behind some trees as she watched Da Liu walk to the house.
Seeing the empty house, his expression instantly turned ugly. He hurriedly rushed in and realized that the black dog had disappeared. He shouted, “Blackie, Blackie! Come out quickly!”
Unfortunately, the large black dog had already disappeared somewhere. No living creature responded to his calls.
Da Liu was furious. He rushed out of the wooden house and smashed a lunch box on the ground.
With a dull thud, the lunch box broke into pieces. It was filled with food for Blackie.
Da Liu was furious. He stomped on the leftover food he had brought for Blackie. “You ingrate. I can’t be bothered with you. So what if you ran away? It’s best if you get bitten to death by a wild beast!”
Da Liu’s tone was very angry. It was too dark around them, and Chi Jiao couldn’t see his expression clearly. She only felt that his tone sounded very sinister.
Chi Jiao was confused.
So the large black dog she had released today belonged to Da Liu? Was he the one who had been abusing the large black dog?
Thinking of Da Liu’s usual smile, Chi Jiao was very surprised.
But now, it seemed like there was no better explanation.
Chi Jiao was still deep in thought when Da Liu turned around and left.
She had to go back before he returned to the base. Chi Jiao didn’t want to be locked outside the base. She hurried back with her little pink lizard.
After returning, Chi Jiao went back to the dorm to rest. However, she was still thinking about the scene she had just witnessed.
In the end, Chi Jiao couldn’t figure it out. She could only close her eyes and sleep.
The next morning, a bell rang at seven o’clock in the morning. The students rose and washed up before heading to the canteen for breakfast.
The breakfast today looked a little inferior. Although it was still delicious, it was not as good as the previous meals. After asking around, they found out that the breakfast today was not prepared by Da Liu, but by the other cooks at the base. Da Liu was in charge of preparing the skins and fillings to make dumplings for lunch and had been too busy to cook breakfast.
