Chi Jiao could tell the meaning behind Yan Zhengchen’s gaze as he stared at Quan Jue. She coughed dryly and said, “Brother Quan won’t tell anyone that Gu Xia is an Esper.”
“Jiaojiao…” Yan Zhengchen looked at her helplessly. He felt that she trusted Quan Jue too much.
He thought about it carefully. Their Jiaojiao had only known Quan Jue for a few months.
Yet, this trust was built at the speed of a rocket.
“Since Jiaojiao treats you as one of her own, we will believe you as well,” Gong Lu suddenly said as Yan Zhengchen’s expression remained unreadable.
With that, Gong Lu shot Yan Zhengchen a look.
Yan Zhengchen nodded solemnly at his gesture.
“Jiaojiao, Ah Chen and I have some private matters to discuss with you.” Gong Lu turned to look at Chi Jiao, his tone gentle.
Chi Jiao looked at Quan Jue beside her. He reached out and rubbed her head. “I’ll wait for you in my room.”
“Okay,” Chi Jiao said softly.
After Quan Jue had walked away, Yan Zhengchen and Gong Lu sat down on the chairs on the porch again, followed by Chi Jiao.
“Jiaojiao, the people from 117 have come to find us. They’re currently talking to Grandpa,” Gong Lu said to her bluntly.
Chi Jiao frowned deeply.
It was obvious that she was extremely unhappy with this news.
“What are they here for?” Chi Jiao asked.
“Things haven’t been too peaceful recently. The crime rates of Espers everywhere have been soaring, especially in our country. It’s worse than any previous year.” Gong Lu pushed his glasses up his nose bridge and said indifferently, “Moreover, more and more Espers have transformed. At this rate, I’m afraid something even more serious will happen.”
“Don’t tell me that 117 wants to invite Grandpa and Grandma out of the mountains.” Chi Jiao’s originally sweet and soft voice suddenly turned cold.
“They do want to invite them,” Yan Zhengchen said.
“No,” Chi Jiao said without even thinking. “It wasn’t easy for Grandpa and Grandma to finally retire. They’ve lived in seclusion in Mount Li for so many years, and they’re old now. Even if they want to return, their bodies and abilities won’t allow it.”
With that, Chi Jiao stood up and walked towards the main hall. “I’ll go meet the people from 117.”
Yan Zhengchen and Gong Lu exchanged glances and saw helplessness in each other’s eyes.
Indeed, it was as they had imagined. Jiaojiao was angry.
In the main hall.
Ou Zhenglin and Liu Ruhua were sitting on the redwood sofa. Opposite them sat a middle-aged man in a Chinese tunic suit.
The middle-aged man’s hair was neatly combed and waxed to the point that it looked glossy. But fortunately, he looked decent. Otherwise, his attire would easily make people associate him with the supervillains in television dramas.
Beside the middle-aged man stood a young woman. She was wearing a black top and black trousers. Her flat and ordinary face was expressionless, and she emitted a proud aura from head to toe.
Ou Zhenglin and Liu Ruhua were originally talking to the man, and the atmosphere in the main hall was very solemn. When they saw Chi Jiao walk in, they both smiled at the same time.
“Jiaojiao, you’re here. Come sit with Grandma.” Liu Ruhua patted the empty cushion beside her.
Chi Jiao walked over and sat beside her.
“This is?” asked the middle-aged man as he looked at Chi Jiao curiously.
“This is my god granddaughter, Chi Jiao,” Ou Zhenglin said indifferently. His gaze turned to Chi Jiao and he looked at her kindly. “Jiaojiao, this is the 117 special forces organization’s vice team leader, Jiang Shen.”
“Hello, Vice Head Jiang.” Chi Jiao smiled faintly and greeted him.
