The matter of the male wolves was thus settled. With Elvis and Lea making the arrangements, Gu Mengmeng didn’t have to bother herself with this.
Lea imprisoned Miranda in the secret lair that Cole had used previously to contain Gillian. To prevent any information leak, Lea didn’t arrange for the snow foxes to guard over her. Instead, he had Elvis send his wolves over to watch her and deliver her meals.
Miranda was surprisingly docile. She stayed inside the secret lair without crying or making a fuss. The wolf beasts reported that for the past few days, she would only say this sentence: ‘In the end, I still cannot escape my fate of imprisonment… nevertheless, it is better to be imprisoned by Ah Ya than by Cole.”
It would appear that she was in self-denial, but Gu Mengmeng chose to close one eye to it. She just ordered for regular meals to be sent to Miranda, and to ensure that she would safely survive this winter. There would be no need to report on Miranda’s other actions.
Wabei became increasingly listless and Gu Mengmeng knew it was time for him to return.
“Let me escort you. “Gu Mengmeng wrapped one arm around Wabei’s neck with brotherly affection.
Wabei snorted. “I am number one in this world. Why would I need a little female like you to escort me? Humph!”
Gu Mengmeng thought about it and agreed. Although she said she wanted to escort Wabei, in the end, it would still be Elvis doing all the work—carrying her up mountains and across rivers.
“Alright, go back and have a good sleep. Next year, bring some fruit from the Snake King valley for me. I want to eat that red colored one… do you know it?”
Wabei nodded. “I know. It was the one Snake had me climb up the tree to pluck for you. When I return next year, I will bring you the best one of all.”
Gu Mengmeng nodded. “Little shit knows me best of all.”
That night, Lea prepared a sumptuous dinner. Gu Mengmeng poured the freshly-brewed batch of wine into little bamboo cups. Elvis’ cup had a raised bottom. In addition, Gu Mengmeng ordered that he could only take three drops of wine per sip, and he was not allowed to have anymore the moment his cup was empty.
Elvis knew he had violent tendencies when he got drunk. Now that he possessed the powers of a Beast King, only Gu Mengmeng would be strong enough to deal with the consequences should he fly into a drunken fit.
The moment he realized that he might lose control and hurt Gu Mengmeng, Elvis instantly treated that wine as poison. He repeatedly lifted his cup but didn’t imbibe a single drop.
After last winter’s experience, Lea could now hold his liquor up to one and a half cups. But to ensure that he wouldn’t lose control also, Gu Mengmeng only allowed him half a cup so that he would be pleasantly tipsy but without being drunk.
As tonight’s guest of honor, Wabei was naturally allowed to get as drunk as he wished. Hence, Gu Mengmeng generously offered Wabei one large bowl of wine, with a “we are so getting drunk tonight” attitude.
As for Auretin…
Haha, Gu Mengmeng mischievously wished to see what that poker face Auretin would be like when drunk. Anyway, he was just a third-level beast and wouldn’t be that hard to control even if he got into a drunken rage. Therefore, Gu Mengmeng also offered Auretin a large bowl filled to the brim with wine.
Gu Mengmeng herself used a small bamboo cup, which looked more elegant. Nevertheless, she had that cup refilled multiple times.
Wabei glanced suspiciously at his large bowl and then at Elvis’ cup with its raised bottom. He tilted his head at Gu Mengmeng. “Gu Mengmeng, are you planning something nasty? Is there poison in this?”
Gu Mengmeng lifted her chin. “Unless your bowl contains my blood, what else in this world would be poisonous to you? Stop whining, bottoms up!”
With that, Gu Mengmeng clinked her cup against Wabei’s bowl, before gulping down her drink. She then turned her cup upside down to show that she had finished it.
