“No wonder Gregory behaves like a blindly loyal general whenever he speaks of the great lord. Because they are beholden to him…” Gu Mengmeng looked at the Beast Deity. “But what can we do now? Gregory refuses to bring me up to the Motou mountains. Daddy, do you have some portal door thing which can immediately teleport me up to the peak?”
The Beast Deity smiled helplessly. “I am the Beast Deity, and not Doraemon.”
Gu Mengmeng’s head drooped down. “But Gregory said it is very difficult to climb the Motou mountains… Daddy, could you watch over me as I climb it, and catch me in case I fall?”
The Beast Deity was speechless. He shook his head with a bitter smile. “My child, why are you still unable to see?”
“Ah?” Gu Mengmeng was bewildered at his comment.
The Beast Deity asked, “The Kiss of the Ocean, what did you get?”
Gu Mengmeng replied, “A pearl.”
“What else?” The Beast Deity prompted.
Gu Mengmeng thought about it and her eyes lit up. “Snake venom.”
The Beast Deity nodded and asked again, “The Soul of the Forest, what did you get?”
Gu Mengmeng answered, “Snake blood.”
The Beast Deity smiled enigmatically and glanced at Elvis. “So, the Heart of the Desert… whose heart is it?”
Gu Mengmeng was astounded. “W… Wales?”
The Beast Deity nodded approvingly. “My child is indeed a promising youth worth teaching.”
Gu Mengmeng appeared to to have thought of something but couldn’t really pinpoint it. She felt like she just couldn’t get a firm grasp of the idea.
The Beast Deity caressed Gu Mengmeng’s little head. “Never mind, don’t worry too much. You will understand once you gather all seven treasures.”
“What do you mean?” Gu Mengmeng didn’t understand.
The Beast Deity kept silent for a moment before saying, “I feel that Gregory fellow is actually pretty decent. Why don’t you just take him in. Even if you have no feelings for him, as long as you don’t hate him, you can just try and see if you two get along well. But if you really don’t like him, even a thousand year old contract doesn’t matter… we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Even if the road ends there, you still have me, right?”
Gu Mengmeng thought it over and agreed with what he said.
She didn’t pursue about the Motou mountains but asked another question, “Daddy, actually… there’s one more thing I would like to ask you about.”
“Mmm?” The Beast Deity didn’t appear surprised. He just gazed at Gu Mengmeng in a mild manner, waiting for her to speak.
Gu Mengmeng explained. “Since I came back from the Mecca Desert, stray beasts seemed to be very scared of me. Even little shit… even Wabei has been avoiding me. He starts trembling the moment he sees me.”
The Beast Deity chuckled. “What do you think the wolf beasts would do if you killed Elvis?”
Gu Mengmeng looked shocked. “What kind of example is this? I will never kill my own husband.”
The Beast Deity shook his head with a grimace. “Alright, let me put it another way. If another powerful Beast King killed Elvis now, what do you think the wolf beasts would do?”
Gu Mengmeng blurted out. “Revenge!”
The Beast Deity shook his head. “No, they would retreat and hide.”
Gu Mengmeng was momentarily stunned. “Daddy, you mean that I killed the leader of the stray beasts… I killed Cole at the Mecca Desert?”
The Beast Deity smiled contemptuously. “How is Cole a leader of the stray beasts? He is just a insignificant little flea. You have killed an exceptionally prominent figure.”
Gu Mengmeng pulled a glum face. She had develop a strange phobia over her memory loss.
The Beast Deity caressed Gu Mengmeng’s head. “He begged you to kill him. You were just doing a good deed.”
