Jialue sat beside Lea and used his elbow to poke him. “Are you going to just sit and watch as my mother frets?”
Lea sighed in exasperation. “That Gregory is much too guarded. We met for the first time today, and he held his cards so tight to his chest that I completely failed to discern his motives. I was just being led by the nose by him.”
But Jialue didn’t believe it. He raised his eyebrows. “Everyone has a weakness. Even the most powerful cannot be totally invulnerable.”
“Your mother managed to gain one month’s grace. So in this one month, we must take very good care of this vulture tribe leader.” Lea patted Hede’s and Jialue’s shoulders with a smile. “A guest who has traveled so far, you two must uphold Sauder’s high hospitality standards.”
“Understood.” Hede chuckled.
Jialue said as he played with Kiara. “Let me make it clear that I am doing this to pave a chance at life for my future brothers and sisters. I am not doing this for you.”
Lea rapped Jialue on the head. “There will come a day when you will beg me for a favor.”
“Mmm, definitely.” Jialue smiled. “But you will have no way of rejecting me when I beg you. Right… Daddy Lea.”
Jialue gave a wily smile. His “Daddy Lea” sounded so soft and sweet as he stared at Lea with eyes as wide and limpid as Gu Mengmeng’s. It made Lea’s heart constrict. He covered Jialue’s eyes and shoved him aside. Through gritted teeth, he spat out. “Right!”
Jialue stood up and patted off his own bottom. He emphasized again. “Everything I do is to pave a chance at life for my future siblings. I am not doing it for you.”
“I got it.” Lea gnashed his jaws. Jialue was obviously repeating this to remind Lea that he now owed this young punk one.
Sigh, this was a wolf pup he had brought up himself. Apart from indulging him, what else could he do? It was his own fault for being helpless against those eyes.
Jialue and Hede walked to the doorway where Gu Mengmeng and Sandy were still commiserating furiously with each other. They bade them farewell, explaining that a few families with female wolf beasts had arrived in Sauder. Their arrival was different from that of male wolf beasts, as females required more settling down. Further, the rainy season was just beginning and the tribe had to start stockpiling food on a major scale now. As a result, the two brothers were very busy and had no time to chat with Gu Mengmeng.
Gu Mengmeng’s heart ached for her sons’ hectic schedule. She asked them to go about their affairs, and that she would send over dinner after Lea had prepared it.
The two sons agreed sensibly and obediently. Jialue then exchanged some honeyed words with Gu Mengmeng, before the two of them left.
Lea instructed Auretin to go straight to Saint Nazaire now and call Ian over.
Auretin dashed off after a quick check-in with Gu Mengmeng. He was hurrying not for Gu Mengmeng, but for Lea—who held the power over all the cooking. He was someone whom Auretin would never dare to offend.
Meanwhile, Gu Mengmeng felt much better after her long grousing session with Sandy. The two females discussed several ways to handle the situation, all of them impractical but extremely satisfying. Gu Mengmeng knew it was impossible to carry out those solutions but just saying them out loud improved her mood by a lot.
To tell the truth, apart from Elvis, this Gregory was the most arrogant prick that Gu Mengmeng had ever met.
Ha, she was truly very annoyed. She really wished to shatter that severe expression on his face and see him kneel on the floor begging for mercy. Hahaha…
After Sandy left, Gu Mengmeng wanted to go to sleep to seek out the Beast Deity. But Lea said it was best to wait until they could gather more information first, so that they could get a better sense of what was going on. Then she could seek out the Beast Deity to fill in the blanks on the details. If they sought out the Beast Deity now without knowing anything, they might be unintentionally biased in their questioning and miss out on some important aspects.
