Damn it. She really detested this man.
He kept ‘liking’ her so selfishly and had a way of pretending to be deeply in love with her, making her sink even deeper into his trap.
“Lu Yeming, let go of me!”
She had underestimated his strength. Even injured, she couldn’t throw him off.
Strong arms hugged her tightly as his pale lips lingered on her face. The heavy rain soaked them thoroughly. “Qingqing, be good and don’t leave, hm?”
“Lu Yeming, your wound is infected and you’re completely drenched. You’re going to pass out soon and I’m going to leave the instant you do!”
Lu Yeming grabbed her delicate shoulders and spun her around, wrapping his hands around her small face. He had no idea how much he liked this girl right now. In his eyes, women were all just pretty flowers that he nurtured patiently, but he had never spent so much effort trying to get someone to stay before.
But she refused to listen to him.
He bent over to capture her lips once more.
Jun Xiqing’s pupils constricted. She still couldn’t get used to his kisses. He was a great kisser, his tongue gently swirling around in her mouth. The sounds of their kiss filled the air seductively against the relentless thrum of the rain. They seemed like lovers.
“Lu Yeming, let me go!”
She pushed him away roughly. Her action caused the wound on his back to tear open once again and he dropped onto one knee in the rain with a loud thud.
He had one hand on the ground to support himself as tiny droplets of rain streamed down his unbelievably handsome face. His expression turned cold.
Jun Xiqing turned and left.
She had only taken two steps before she heard him call out behind her hoarsely, “Qingqing, you’re the only one I have. Once I’ve taken over the world, I’ll ask for your hand in marriage, and we’ll become husband and wife. You’ll be my only wife. My one and only.”
Jun Xiqing’s footsteps slowed. Would they be together for life then?
Was that what he had just promised?
So many young lovers had promised their lives to each other when they first started out their romance, but as time passed, their love had fizzled out and they all went their separate ways.
He was a man of great principle and it was possible that his promise was not to be taken lightly. Even if she couldn’t become the person he treasured in his heart, she would still receive all his doting, love and glory.
It wasn’t a bad deal.
Compared to all those immature degenerates out there, he was so much more mature and stoic. It was easy to be mesmerized by his power.
She remembered that back in Country Z, she had tried to get him to abolish the rule allowing polygamy so that each man could only have one wife, but he had refused.
But he was making a promise to her now.
Jun Xiqing’s red lips curved upwards. He wasn’t exactly disregarding her feelings either.
But she didn’t stop and continued on her way.
She was still going to leave.
Lu Yeming frowned slightly as he swallowed. After a few seconds, he twisted his lips. His eyes were already filled with red.
Even as she walked away, he said slowly, “Qingqing, if you leave now, I promise that I will paint the North territory in red one day. I will make you suffer immensely.”
The North territory was where Country Z, Jun Xiqing’s home, was.
If he were to take over the world one day, he was going to personally send his army to her home, invade it and paint it red with blood. It was the price she was going to pay for leaving today.
Jun Xiqing suddenly halted. She turned around and stared in horror at the man kneeling on the ground.
She trembled. This… devil!
His sharp eyes peeked through his wet fringe as he stared at her and beckoned with one hand. “Come here.”
Jun Xiqing started walking over stiffly.
“I’ve already said before that you’ll never escape me, Qingqing.”
Jun Xiqing shut her eyes. The rain was pouring and her heart was cold. After a long while, she spoke in a soft voice. “Lu Yeming, trust me, I’ll kill you someday.”
Everything would be over once she killed him.
Hearing this, Lu Yeming’s thin lips curved up into a cold smile. “Do you still remember the bet we made? Whoever chooses love would lose.”
“You’ll never bear to kill me.”
Jun Xiqing froze.
With that, Lu Yeming shut his eyes and collapsed.
…
The rain only got heavier as night fell. The old wooden hut swayed precariously in the wind.
The physician bandaged Lu Yeming’s wound again and said, “Miss, this man’s wound was infected then soaked in the rain and he now has a 42-degree fever. I’ve already given him medicine but if he doesn’t survive through tonight, there’s no more hope for him.”
“Thank you, doctor.”
The physician left and Jun Xiqing shut the doors. She sat on the edge of the bed and looked at Lu Yeming.
Lu Yeming was still in a stupor and was mumbling in his sleep. “Cold…”
He was cold. There was only one blanket on the bed and his body was cold.
Jun Xiqing’s mind raced.
She would be free if she killed him. She would be getting rid of all danger. But she knew in her heart that this chaotic Country A needed him.
And could she even kill him?
He was right. She couldn’t.
Jun Xiqing took out a piece of paper and wrote something on it. She took his hand and imprinted his thumbprint on it.
Then she folded it and kept it away. She was going to keep it safe.
She felt a sense of relief after she did all this.
Stretching out a hand, gentle fingers caressed his handsome face. In the next second, his hand grabbed her delicate wrist, hungering for her warmth. “Cold… cold…”
There were no other blankets here.
Chewing on her lip, Jun Xiqing pulled open the blankets, then folded herself into his embrace. They had done it once before, but he had left immediately after that. This was the first time they were sleeping together.
As Jun Xiqing reached out to hug his slim waist, she pressed her soft and warm body against his cold skin.
But he only seemed to be getting colder.
He might not make it through the night.
Jun Xiqing looked at his handsome face and his tightly shut lips. As he lay there injured and vulnerable, he looked very much like the Young Master of an esteemed family.
She hesitated for a second before unbuttoning his shirt and reaching in with her small hands, brushing against his exquisite body…
She was warm and he was cold.
She was soft and he was firm.
Plastered against his cold skin, Jun Xiqing curled up and started shivering in his arms.
But her body gradually began to burn up.
No matter how cold they were, the best way for a man and woman to heat up was to embrace like this. While it wasn’t obvious, he was gradually warming up as well.
Since she had already decided to save him and decided which path she was going to walk, Jun Xiqing didn’t struggle. She lowered her long lashes as her hands continued moving down his body…
…
Lu Yeming was dreaming.
He was walking in a desert with the scorching sun hanging cruelly above him. His throat was parched and he was burning up slowly.
Suddenly his eyes snapped open and focused on the person lying on top of him.
Above him, Jun Xiqing’s raven-black hair cascaded silkily down her shoulders. Her youthful skin was glowing like shimmering pearls in the darkness.
