Tang Mo’er heard An’an’s scream and before she could react, An’an had pounced over, the two of them landing on the ground in a mess of limbs.
The acid in the plastic bottle spilled out. They had escaped only because An’an was agile in her movements and pushed Tang Mo’er away. The acid was all over the lawn and it created a hissing sound as a huge patch of grass corroded.
An’an made a ‘hmph’ sound, her tiny face was covered in sweat.
“An’an, what’s the matter with you? Are you hurt?” Tang Mo’er immediately got up and checked on An’an.
An’an applied some pressure on her left chest, two drops of acid were splattered onto her wound, the skin around had suffered from an acid burn.
The stinging pain was so unbearable that her face went entirely white. But she shook her head, whispering, “Little sister-in-law, I’m fine. Are you hurt?”
Tang Mo’er didn’t sustain any injuries. An’an had pounced over and acted as her human shield. It was only right that she was safe and sound.
All she could feel was shock, guilt and anguish. An’an wasn’t even 18 years old, she seemed so feeble but at the most critical moment, she had protected her without hesitation, even acting as her human shield.
An’an was truly brave, with the heart of a lion. It was all hidden under her fragile and diminutive appearance.
“Young Madam, Miss!” Two bodyguards rushed over and caught hold of the little boy. “Who are you, where did you get the bottle of acid from?”
The little boy was held captive and he started to freak-out, wailing loudly. “An auntie gave me that bottle of water. She promised to buy me toys if I would just splash this bottle of water on this big sister’s face.”
“Where’s that auntie?”
“She’s right there.” The little boy pointed his finger in the woman’s direction.
The bodyguard looked in the direction the little boy pointed. There was a suspicious silhouette around the corner. Someone was watching them sneakily from afar.
“Stay still, don’t move!” The bodyguard called at the top of his voice and speedily gave chase.
…
Qin Yawen was dressed completely in black and she tried to hide her face with a scarf around her head. She dashed out of the main entrance of the hospital, wanting to hail a cab and escape at breakneck speed.
She was only one step away from ruining Tang Mo’er.
The acid would have been splattered all over Tang Mo’er’s face just now. As long as she ruined Tang Mo’er’s ethereal appearance, all the problems would have been solved.
But it was a futile attempt of hers, An’an had pounced over and saved Tang Mo’er.
How could Tang Mo’er get so lucky?
She had instigated Young Master Lee to take liberties with Tang Mo’er at the bar last night and contrary to her expectations, Young Master Jun and Huo Beichen had appeared to protect her.
The two bodyguards had almost caught up to her and Qin Yawen was still trying desperately to hail a cab. Right when she was about to go into a state of panic, a cab stopped in front of her. The backseat window lowered and Lu Qi’er’s face appeared. Lu Qi’er hollered impatiently, “Hurry and get in!”
Qin Yawen opened the door to the backseat and hurriedly got in the cab.
…
In the cab.
After they managed to escape the two bodyguards, Qin Yawen sighed with relief. She asked, “Qi’er, why did you appear there?”
Lu Qi’er had her men watching over Qin Yawen all day long. She knew that there was something fishy going on with Qin Yawen, so she wanted to find out what Qin Yawen was up to. She didn’t anticipate Qin Yawen’s plans to splash acid over Tang Mo’er’s face and ruin her appearance.
“Qin Yawen, why did you try to ruin Tang Mo’er’s appearance? Isn’t Tang Mo’er your biological daughter?”
How could there be such a mother like that on Earth? Though Lu Qi’er hated Tang Mo’er very much and wished for her downfall, Qin Yawen’s actions had truly taken her aback.
Qin Yawen caught hold of Lu Qi’er’s hand. “Qi’er, listen to my words carefully. I’ve messed this operation up and with Gu Mohan’s sharp-wittedness, he’ll be able to find out the truth behind all of this. I’ve inadvertently alerted him. Don’t be concerned about anything and hurry and follow your Daddy back to the Capital. Just focus on being the treasured daughter of the Lu family. That’s all you need to do.”
Lu Qi’er was confused. “Qin Yawen, what are you afraid of? Why do I even need to escape with my tail between my legs? I’m the rightful daughter of the Lu family.”
Qin Yawen didn’t want to disclose Lu Qi’er’s parentage to her and she urged desperately, “Qi’er, you’ll be fine if you listen to my advice. Hurry and leave, if you don’t it’ll be too late!”
…
Lu Qi’er returned to the villa and the helper opened the front doors. She scanned the room with her eyes and asked, “Where’s my Daddy, isn’t he home yet?”
“Elder Miss, Sir is not home.”
Daddy wasn’t at home.
Lu Qi’er puckered her lips before heading upstairs. She had originally intended to return to her own room but when she passed by the master bedroom, she paused in front of it for a train she couldn’t explain.
Pushing the door open, she entered the master bedroom. The master bedroom belonged to her Daddy, since he wasn’t home, the room was empty.
Lu Qi’er arrived beside the bed before she noticed a black leather wallet left behind on the nightstand. It belonged to her father.
She picked up the wallet and looked through it. A photograph fell out from the wallet.
What kind of photograph was it?
A photograph of a woman?
Would Daddy place a photograph of a woman in his wallet?
Lu Qi’er bent down to pick it up, she was taken aback once she took a good look of the photograph.
It was a photograph of a woman, and that woman was… Tang Mo’er.
Why was it Tang Mo’er?
How could it be?
Lu Qi’er flipped the photograph over, there were two words written on the back of the photograph. It was written with bold cursive handwriting, Lin Xuan…
There was one syllable missing, Lin Xuan…
One syllable missing.
How could there be one syllable missing?
The words were written by her father, why did he stop there without completing the name?
What was the missing syllable?
Could it be her Mommy Lin Xuanji?
No, it could also be Mommy’s twin sister, Lin Xuanyin?
So was it Lin Xuanji or Lin Xuanyin?
This woman must be the love of Lu Jinwen’s life, so much that he cherished her photograph and kept it in his wallet.
Lu Qi’er didn’t have the spare time to ponder over who Lu Jinwen truly loved. Her mind was filled with only one question, why was it Tang Mo’er’s face?
Why did Tang Mo’er’s beautiful face bear an uncanny resemblance to the woman in the photograph?
The photograph slid out of her hand and fell on the carpeted ground. Everything seared into Lu Qi’er’s brain, she had finally figured everything out. She finally realized why did Qin Yawen treat her so well. That was because she was Qin Yawen’s biological daughter, while Tang Mo’er was the rightful daughter of the Lu family!
Oh god, why did things turn out like this?
She was the rightful daughter of the Lu family!
No. She had to calm down.
Lu Qi’er pulled herself together and analyzed the situation. Qin Yawen was the culprit behind Tang Mo’er’s acid-splashing incident, Gu Mohan wouldn’t realize anything out of it, she hoped.
No matter how astute Gu Mohan was, he wouldn’t be able to find out that Tang Mo’er and her had swapped identities.
He would never find out.
Lu Qi’er tried to convince herself many times over, the crux of the matter would be to stop her Daddy from meeting Tang Mo’er. And also, return to the Capital with her father as soon as possible.
The status as the daughter of the Lu family was the most important to her, she could never afford to lose it.
Wait… before she returned to the Capital, she had to meet… Fu Qinglun.
Lu Qi’er’s lips curved into a vicious snarl. Even if she couldn’t cause Tang Mo’er any harm, that didn’t mean she couldn’t target Lin Shiyu. That thieving b*tch, Fu Qinglun belonged to her and her alone!
