'Evelyn…Tang?' Evelyn turned to look at Sheffield, who was still smiling.
Gillian nodded her head and said, "Oh, you two have the same surname. What a coincidence."
"No," Sheffield explained. "Her original surname is not Tang. She uses mine. So, she is Evelyn Tang now."
Gillian realized what was going on. She had never known that Sheffield could be this sweet and so romantic.
She mumbled with a stiff smile, "But you're not married yet, right? Why is she already using your surname?"
"Does it matter? We will get married sooner or later, and she will eventually be taking my surname." Sheffield kissed the dumbfounded Evelyn in front of the other two women.
She said that name in her head again and again. Evelyn Tang—she didn't hate it at all.
Gillian managed to calm down and changed the subject. "Have you finished watching the movie?"
"Not yet. We have another half an hour left," Sheffield replied.
"Ours doesn't start for an hour. There is a nice coffee house downstairs. Would you like to join us?" Gillian invited them, hoping to know more about the woman in Sheffield's arm.
He didn't think Evelyn would want to hang with Gillian. So, he refused right away. "Thank you, but we have other plans. We were just heading downstairs to get her some skin-care products."
"Yeah? I know a lot about beauty products. Miss Tang, what kind of product are you looking for?" Gillian pretended to be interested.
Evelyn flashed a smile. Sheffield's ex-girlfriend sounded way too enthusiastic. However, she still answered politely, "I need some facial cream." Among her skin-care products, Evelyn always ran out of facial cream the most quickly. She didn't like to keep a spare bottle and the one she was using was about to run out. Since they had time and there was a mall downstairs, she had earlier decided to buy a new bottle.
"Just so you know, your skin looks good, but women should start fighting against wrinkles at our age. I recommend the G brand's anti-wrinkle cream or the ZR Caviar," Gillian said, purposefully mentioning the extremely expensive brands, which few women could afford.
Evelyn declined courteously, "Thank you, but I don't use those."
Gillian smirked inside. She figured that those must be too expensive for Evelyn. That was just what she had wanted. She put on a big smile. "You shouldn't worry too much about the price. We should take care of ourselves, and using good quality skin-care products is one way to be responsible for our health and beauty."
Sheffield didn't know much about all this beauty stuff and thought that the two women had something in common after all. So, he didn't interfere in their conversation.
Evelyn replied, "You're right, but I've only ever heard of those products. I've never used them."
"You should give it a try. They are not very expensive. You should buy two or more. You will need them anyway. That's what I do. They have a counter in Shining International Plaza.
You should go check it out," Gillian said in a self-satisfied tone.
"I think I'll stick to the ones I use now. I'm afraid any new products will ruin my face." 'Damn this! Why are we still talking to this woman? Why do I have to stay here and deal with her?'
"Oh, don't worry. Those are really good brands. I promise that your skin will become smooth after using it," Gillian said with a smug smile.
Evelyn was at the edge of her patience. She was so tired of talking to Gillian that she couldn't even bother to force a smile on her face. "What kind of wrinkles can be resisted by a facial cream worth only a few thousand dollars? It can be used as a toner, at most. First of all, I don't use anti-wrinkle products because I don't have any wrinkles. And even if I do choose to use them, I wouldn't buy cheap products like the ones you mentioned. The W brand's Legendary Facial Cream is best suited for me. I'm used to it, after all."
The smug smile on Gillian's face froze. Evelyn didn't care. She cast a cold glance at Sheffield and asked, "Shall we leave?" 'Or I will! I don't care about you, ' she thought, fully irritated now.
Sheffield was struck dumb. He thought they were having a good conversation about cosmetics. He had no idea why Evelyn was angry all of a sudden. "Yeah, let's go." He nodded at Gillian and her friend and left with Evelyn in his arm.
After the couple left, the woman next to Gillian exclaimed, "Oh my God! Most skin-care products of W brand are customized. Even a moisturizer is several times more expensive than G brand's facial cream."
Gillian tried her best to sound calm and said with a fake smile, "Who knows if she was telling the truth?"
"The overcoat she was wearing was from the leading design of this year's winter fashion show in Y City! If that's an original, she sure can afford the skin-care products of W brand."
Gillian clenched her teeth in annoyance. Of course, she knew that already! She had not only recognized Evelyn's million-dollar coat, but also knew that her handbag was worth more than a million too. Not to mention her jewelry and other accessories.
But, it was also possible that Sheffield had bought all those for her. Gillian wanted to find out the truth.
Evelyn crossed her arms over her chest after she and Sheffield had walked into the sightseeing elevator inside the mall.
"Evelyn, what's wrong?" Sheffield wondered why she was angry.
She rolled her eyes at him. "You didn't want to deal with your ex-girlfriend, so you had me do it instead?"
"What? You two were talking something about skin-care products. I thought you… I don't know much about those stuff and I…" Sheffield felt wronged; he didn't know what to say.
"I cannot believe that she felt the need to recommend skin-care products to me! She is just a woman who uses mid-grade beauty products," Evelyn snorted.
That was when Sheffield realized what had happened.
Taking in the angry look in her eyes, he smiled and said, "Sorry, Evelyn, my bad. You don't have to talk to her again."
Although Gillian was rich, she was nothing compared to the likes of Evelyn Huo.
Their standards and quality of living were very different. It was only natural that they didn't have much in common.
Evelyn calmed down a little. "If that's the kind of girls you hung out with back in college, I seriously doubt your judgment."
Sheffield led her out of the elevator with a laugh. "But I didn't date her for long, and then I met you. Don't you think my taste has improved tremendously?"
His flattery successfully dissipated her anger. "Yes, it has," she replied with a smirk.
They went to the store and bought her a facial cream and an eye cream. Sheffield paid the bill. Evelyn had refused at first since the bill was over two hundred grand, and he needed all his money for the research. But Sheffield had insisted.
He held the bag of skin-care products in one hand and held her hand with the other as they walked back to the cinema.
As soon as they left the counter, Gillian went into the shop. Looking at the products around her, she asked casually, "Which one of these did that couple buy?"
"Oh, the lady bought the facial cream and eye cream from the Legend series. The facial cream contains ingredients such as ginseng, pilose antler, snow lotus, China cordyceps, and so on. It is the best-seller and also the most expensive one in our store. Would you like to try it too?" The saleswoman noticed that the new customer was wearing designer clothes as well. So, she warmly took out the sample product to recommend it to her.
