"Oh!" Evelyn didn't give it much thought, nor did she have the mood to care about who Debbie was having dinner with. The situation between her and Sheffield was still in a deadlock. "I'm going upstairs," she said to Carlos.
"Good night, honey."
"Good night, Dad."
Evelyn went upstairs to her bedroom while Carlos carried on working in the living room.
Meanwhile, at the homemade cuisine restaurant, Sheffield and Debbie were having a great time. Sheffield ordered a full table of dishes, obviously to impress Debbie. Fortunately, that worked out in his favor as she always had a big appetite.
After a while, Debbie hurled the question she had been meaning to ask him. "Do you have a girlfriend, Sheffield?"
The answer to that question wasn't going to be a straightforward one for Sheffield. He struggled to come up with the right answer because if he said that he didn't have a girlfriend, then what was Evelyn to him? However, if he told Debbie the truth, he would risk being misunderstood by her. "Mrs. Huo, are you trying to set me up with someone?"
"Yes, you are right. To tell you the truth, I want to introduce my daughter to you!" Debbie went straight to the point.
Sheffield would make such an excellent son-in-law. How could she not seize this opportunity?
However, Debbie was thinking of Terilynn while Sheffield thought that she had meant Evelyn.
Baffled and pleasantly surprised by her words, he said, "Okay, thank you very much!" Then he poured Debbie a glass of wine and handed it to her.
'Okay? So, he doesn't have a girlfriend!' Debbie was thrilled. She took the wine from him, and they clinked glasses happily. After putting down the glass, Debbie told him with keen interest,
"You know what? My daughter, Terilynn is a very lively and outgoing person, but she can be a little too serious sometimes. She's a kindhearted girl and a law student…"
"Wait, wait a minute, Mrs. Huo!" Sheffield interrupted her.
Debbie looked at him in confusion. "What's wrong?"
"To be honest, I am very interested in your elder daughter!"
"Evelyn?"
"Yes! Evelyn," he said confidently.
Debbie didn't realize what was going on. With an embarrassed look, she answered, "Evelyn is a good girl, but she has a boyfriend. No, no. you should get to know more about Terilynn. And Terilynn is so cute."
Sheffield almost choked on his food but managed to stifle his sudden reaction to her statement with a quick gulp of water. He cleared his throat and said, "Okay, let's just have dinner first!" He decided to coax his future mother-in-law first.
The entire time, he patiently listened to Debbie go on and on about Terilynn, while he deliberately didn't mention anything else about Evelyn.
All of a sudden, Debbie recalled her son, who was always cold and distant. Just spending a few hours with Sheffield made her wish she could treat him like her own son.
It was nearly 11 p.m. when Sheffield drove Debbie back to the Huo family manor.
Like the gentleman that he was, Sheffield got out of the car and opened the door for Debbie. "Please be careful, Mrs. Huo."
"All right. Thank you for the dinner, Sheffield. I had a wonderful time. Perhaps we can have dinner with Terilynn next time!"
'With Terilynn?' After hesitating for a while, he nodded, "Okay. It's getting late. Please go inside. I don't want you to catch a cold."
"Okay, bye. Drive carefully."
"Of course. Goodnight, Mrs. Huo!"
As the sports car drove off, Debbie stood at the gate of the manor, grinning happily.
Suddenly, the door to the manor behind her was pushed open from the inside by a man. Having noticed the gleeful smile on her face, he coldly said, "So, you have a boy toy now?"
"Ah!" Debbie was startled, her heart pounding like trip-hammer. She clutched at her chest and glared at the man angrily. "Don't talk nonsense! Don't you know that you shouldn't go around spooking people like that? Why are you still awake?"
Carlos only saw a man driving away in a sports car, but he didn't see what the man looked like. He stared at Debbie dubiously and asked, "How would I have seen your new boy toy if I had been asleep?"
The air between them was ripe with jealousy.
Debbie snorted and started walking towards the house. "I don't want to talk to you anymore. What the hell are you talking about? I have a hard time dealing with you as it is, why would I go and increase troubles? You are overestimating me!"
Carlos kept up with her with a smile and said, "So, the boy toy can't satisfy you? You've realized that I am better in bed, so you came back to me, huh?"
Debbie suddenly turned around and hit him with her purse. "Carlos Huo, are you nuts? That's the man I am trying to fix up with Terilynn!"
"A fixup? " Carlos frowned.
"Yes! I'm warning you. Since you've already messed up Evelyn's relationship, I won't allow you to meddle with Terilynn's relationship." Debbie turned around, pouting her lips and walked on.
"What does he do? How old is he? What do his parents do?" Carlos bombarded her with questions.
"He is a doctor, 25 or 26 years old, I didn't ask him about his family." Debbie was too focused on other things to bother about Sheffield's family.
'A doctor again?' Carlos had grown sick and tired of every doctor in the industry because of Sheffield. "So that's why you've been visiting the hospital so frequently?"
"What?"
"Busy introducing a doctor to Terilynn."
"Of course not!" Debbie wasn't interested in explaining anything to him. "It was just an unexpected bonus. I told you to stay out of this! Let me handle it! I'll introduce him to you after they officially decide to be together."
"Honey, I think that you've forgotten how childish you can be sometimes. This doctor may have approached you on purpose. Be careful of him."
Debbie stared at Carlos with an incredulous look. "Why can't you change your bad habit? Do you really think that everyone is out to get our property? You are wrong. The man I was with is a very capable doctor, who not only does surgeries but also develops software as a sideline. He makes a lot of money!"
'Develops software.' This reminded Carlos of Star Anise.
However, he was certain that it wasn't Star Anise. Star Anise couldn't have been so young. Shaking his head, Carlos went on arguing with his wife. "You're so kindhearted you think everyone in the world is good."
"My friends are all good people. I am not like you. I don't make friends with dodgy people!"
"Are you talking about Damon and Wesley?"
"Look at you! Do you want to sow dissension among us?"
Carlos was amused by her reaction. He cupped her face and kissed her on the lips. "Honey, I love you so much."
Debbie blushed at his sudden confession of love. She glared at him and pouted her lips. "You used to flirt with me nonstop when we were young, and now you are still so flirtatious."
"You two need to get a room. I'm blushing." A voice interrupted the two lovers from behind.
It was Matthew.
He was standing casually with his hands inside his pockets. His assistant was standing not far behind him, carrying his suitcase.
