Sheffield flipped through the song list;
he was dumbfounded by the sheer number of songs.
Debbie Nian represented an era of Chinese music. Even though her songs were ten or even twenty years old, they were still popular. There was no singer in the country who was as famous as her. When she was still active in the music industry, she had produced fifteen albums, with ten songs in each of them. An astounding total of 150 songs.
'How am I supposed to learn all of these in such a short time?'
Joshua arrived at their meeting place earlier than Sheffield. When his friend walked into the private booth, Joshua stood up abruptly and stared at his swollen face. Sheffield sat on the sofa and poured himself a glass of whiskey. "What the hell happened to you? Who was brave enough to hit Maestro Tang? Did you have a fight with Evelyn's lover?" Something was not right. Very few people could touch Sheffield.
After gulping down the whiskey, Sheffield slammed the glass on the table. Then, he stood up and cracked his knuckles as he moved towards Joshua.
Joshua quickly put up his defense. "What are you doing?"
Sheffield grabbed his arm and punched him in the face. Joshua didn't know why he was getting hit, so he fought back.
But it was useless. Sheffield was much better at martial arts than he was. The man used to lead people into fights in the streets of M Country.
Before long, Joshua had dark circles around his eyes. Regardless of the pain, he roared angrily, "Sheffield, if you don't tell me what is going on, I'm so done with this friendship!"
Sheffield took a deep breath. He felt much better after giving Joshua what he deserved. He let go of him and said, "You knew that Evelyn is Carlos Huo's daughter."
Joshua stared at him blankly. "Didn't I tell you?" he asked.
"Cut the crap, asshole!" Sheffield roared, glaring daggers at him.
"I remember telling you." Ever since he had learned about it, Joshua had been thinking of telling Sheffield about it. 'Did I forget?' "All right, I forgot! But what does it have to do with this? Did Carlos hit you?!" That was the only possible explanation. Sheffield would never fight back against his future father-in-law.
"Who the fuck told you that Evelyn was at a hotel with a man?"
"I saw it myself, dude! But, I was in a hurry. I called you immediately." He had only seen Evelyn enter the hotel with a man, but didn't see the person's face clearly.
As soon as his words faded, Sheffield struck him again with his fist. "Haven't you seen Carlos Huo before? Why didn't you recognise him? What the hell is wrong with your eyes? You got me into big trouble!"
"What? Are you saying it was Carlos with Evelyn?" Joshua asked as he blocked Sheffield's fist with his arm.
"Yes, you idiot! If it was someone else, do you think I would get beaten up like this? You stole my girlfriend and you didn't even tell me who she really is after learning about it. You're right! From now on, I'm done with this friendship!" Since Evelyn hadn't agreed to be his girlfriend, he never bothered to investigate her family.
His original plan was to win Evelyn's heart, and then look into her family background, find out their likes and dislikes, and make a good impression on his future parents-in-law.
But now, it was all over. He went hysteric in front of his father-in-law, who already had a bad impression about him, and even punched the man in the face.
Joshua laughed out loud, but a pain shot through his jaw immediately. "Ouch, this hurts!" He touched his jaw, where it was swollen.
"Good. You deserve it!" Sheffield didn't feel a tinge of pity for Joshua.
"Hahaha." Joshua continued to laugh.
Sheffield glared at him and remarked sarcastically, "Oh, you think this is funny, do you? Don't forget that you are still aiming to get his little daughter. You will end up like me one day soon."
Joshua's smile froze on his face.
"Actually, your situation is worse than mine. You're dating his elder daughter, while fantasizing about his other daughter. When Carlos finds out, he wouldn't stop with breaking one leg. He'll take your bloody life!" Joshua shuddered. This time, it was Sheffield's turn to laugh.
Joshua was distressed. "This is a horrible mess! Why did I even agree to be with Evelyn in the first place?" 'What is wrong with me? How am I supposed to explain this to Terilynn?' he thought.
Sheffield took a sip of the whiskey and snapped at him, "Because you're a jerk! You knew that she was my woman, but you still approached her. You deserve it."
Joshua sighed. He had only agreed to Evelyn's plan to take some pressure off of him from his parents.
Who knew that things would come to this?
Joshua sat next to Sheffield and put an arm around his shoulder. "Buddy, we're on the same boat now. I'll break up with Evelyn as soon as I can. Then, I'll pursue Terilynn. You should try to gain back your reputation in front of her father in the meanwhile."
"No," said Sheffield with a mysterious smile.
Joshua's gut feeling told him that this guy had some other plan. "Why? What are you going to do?"
"We are so focused on the father-in-law that we are forgetting there is someone else in the picture who is way more important than him."
"Who the hell is that?" "Someone who has a hold over Carlos Huo," Sheffield smirked. "Mrs. Huo."
Joshua sat up straight. Sheffield went on, "I will win over our future mother-in-law first." Debbie was outgoing and cheerful. He figured that she would be easy to get along with. Carlos loved Debbie to hell and back. He would do anything she asked of him. If Sheffield could make his future mother-in-law happy, half the effort would be made.
Joshua was stunned for a while. Then, he quickly held his old friend tighter in his arm and said, "My dear brother-in-law. Yes, I'll call you 'brother-in-law' from now on! This is a wonderful idea!"
With a disgusted look on his face, Sheffield pushed him away and shouted, "Get off me!"
Joshua was not angry anymore. He snuggled closer to Sheffield. "Come on, Sheff. Let me give you a kiss…"
There was a sudden creaking sound. The door of the private booth flew open all of a sudden. "Hi. Is Sheffield… here?"
The voice faded as soon as the person saw what was going on inside the booth. T
erilynn had never expected to see such a… romantic scene.
Two handsome men were making out. The scene was so beautiful that she almost wished them happiness.
She had heard from Evelyn that Sheffield had gotten beaten up. But, she ended up witnessing her future brother-in-law and Sheffield… well, making out in a private booth.
The atmosphere was more awkward than it could be put into words. It didn't occur to Joshua or Sheffield that someone would break into the room all of a sudden. They maintained the ambiguous posture.
Terilynn covered her eyes and said, "I… I'm sorry. I'm so sorry… I didn't mean to interfere. I'll leave now, you two continue…"
'Continue?' Sheffield immediately pushed Joshua away. "Get away, you son of a bitch!"
