It was quite apparent that the owner of the restaurant was surprised to see Ning Meng. However, after seeing Huo Beichen’s frowning face, she quickly forced a calm demeanor. “… Ah, you’ve brought a friend, I see? Will the usual seat do?”
Ning Meng was no idiot. She had seen the look on the lady’s face earlier. However, she could not bring herself to ask what was wrong. She slowly followed Huo Beichen to his “usual seat”—a table next to a window.
It was a two-person table which was quite clean with not even a flick of dust on it. As they were seated, the restaurant owner presented them with the menu and shipped out her memo pad.
“So… the usual?”
Hearing this, Ning Meng closed the menu in her hands and looked at Huo Beichen.
From the looks of it, Huo Beichen was a frequent customer of the restaurant.
She thought that he would reply with a cold “yes”, but instead, he looked at her and said, “Take a browse. Just order whatever you want.”
His eyes were dark and gloomy, like a pair of black holes. It seemed as though there was some kind of dark painful past buried in those eyes. Ning Meng could not help but feel anxious after looking at them.
She opened the menu again and browsed through quickly. The restaurant was indeed famous for its Pickled Fish Fillet, however, that was not the only thing on their menu. A moment later, she ordered a set of Pickled Fish Fillet, Spicy Shredded Potato, and Stir-fried Green Spinach.
Then, the restaurant owner gave them a strange look before responding with a smile. “Ah, the usual then.”
After the restaurant owner had walked into the kitchen, Ning Meng turned toward Huo Beichen and asked, “So, you frequent this place a lot? And you’ve always ordered these dishes too?”
Huo Beichen nodded with a woeful face.
Then, they looked at one another for quite some time, not saying a word.
Feeling bored, Ning Meng took out her phone and started to browse Weibo.
It was quite a huge hand they had showed earlier in the day. The internet had done a complete 180 and was taking a huge piss on Liu Ying. The other three trainees were also getting harassed so much that they had cleaned every post on their Weibo page.
Meanwhile, Li Shiyao had gained a few hundred thousand followers because of her courageous act for justice.
As Ning Meng was reading the Weibo posts, a message from the “My Boss Is So Dashing Today” group popped up.
Qi Shan: [What are you eating tonight, guys? S Club’s pale menu is hurting my taste buds every single day!]
Coincidentally, the Pickled Fish Fillet was brought up to the table right at that moment. The mouth-watering scent of the fish fillet fumed straight into Ning Meng’s nose. The white well-cooked meat of the fish was beckoning her to devour it right away!
Huo Beichen was quite good at picking the right place to bring her to. This was indeed one of the best Pickled Fish Fillet in town!
Before picking up her chopsticks, Ning Meng quickly snapped a picture of the dish and sent it to the Group. Then, she picked some of the fish meat up with her chopsticks and put it into her mouth.
Hmm~~!! The taste was so good that she could moan in bliss!
As she was savoring the taste of her Pickled Fish Fillet, a message brightened up her phone’s screen.
Qi Shan: [Wut?! Is that my boss’s hand I saw in the picture? He brought you to eat Pickled Fish Fillet?!]
Ning Meng: [?]
Qi Shan: [Boss would usually go to have Pickled Fish Fillet at one of his favorite secret restaurants every week. I once begged him to bring me with him but he straight out declined, and yet, he brought you there with him! Sobs. My boss doesn’t love me no moar.jpg]
Upon seeing this, Ning Meng was stunned.
Raising her head, she saw her husband looking at the table, seemingly deep in his thoughts. He looked so lonely and sad.
After a short pause, Ning Meng took a piece of fish fillet and put it in his bowl. “Lord Chen, come on. Start chowing!”
The man then took a long look at the fish fillet before picking up his chopsticks.
As Ning Meng began to savor her tasty dish again, a message came in.
Zhen Shanmei: [I saw many deliverymen working really hard to deliver food to various homes, I felt so moved. I have decided. I am not going to let the recent events beat me.]
Ning Meng replied instinctively: [Yeah. The deliverymen are working hard to deliver food right now, how could you go on a diet at this moment, right?]
Zhen Shanmei: [??]
