As Pei Ziheng’s loyal dog, he flashed a look to the secretary and assistant, signaling for them to make themselves scarce.
The assistant and secretary obediently left the area.
Only Chu Chen was left waiting on Pei Ziheng.
Pei Ziheng’s voice was void of emotion. “Is there a mistake?”
“Not possible.” The doctor assured. “We’re a big hospital, and our processes are stringent and by the book. If you don’t believe me, you’re free to get a second opinion in another hospital.”
Pei Ziheng instructed Chu Chen. “Transfer her.”
Chu Chen understood him clearly. This was a serious matter, and he did not dare make the decision on which hospital to transfer Xia Ling to. After verifying with Pei Ziheng, he transferred Xia Ling to another Tier 3A hospital in the city that had absolutely no relation to Compassionate Peace Hospital and Huaxin Mother and Child Specialist Hospital.
The results of the test in the new hospital came out to be exactly the same as Compassionate Peace Hospital. It indicated that the child Xia Ling was carrying was more than three months old.
This time, Pei Ziheng saw the ultrasound first hand.
The child was clearly sucking its own fingers and moving slightly in Xia Ling’s uterus. It looked calm with its eyes closed.
Pei Ziheng was unable to speak for a long time.
Chu Chen was worried about him, but could only silently stay by his side, not daring to open his mouth.
For his beloved woman to be carrying another man’s child, rendering him a cuckold, this was unacceptable to any normal man, let alone Pei Ziheng. He was formidable in the business world, a dragon of a man.
Chu Chen thought to himself that Ye Xingling was going to die a terrible death.
He was already contemplating how to make amends with Xia Yu and repair their relationship. If Ye Xingling were to lose favor with Pei Ziheng, the most likely scenario was that Xia Yu was going to call all the shots. Which woman would be able to have a higher status than her?
Suddenly, he heard Pei Ziheng tell the doctor. “Abort the child.”
The doctor was taken aback. “Abort? Mr. Pei, forgive me for being blunt. Miss Ye might have fallen down, and the child is unstable, but she just needs to be more careful and there will not be any issues. To abort after three months is extremely harmful to the mother. There is no need to give up on the child just because of a fall.”
Pei Ziheng’s voice deepened. “I said to abort.”
The doctor was stunned at his forcefulness.
Chu Chen spoke up. “Doctor Liu, you might be unaware… We thought that the child was only two months old, then the fall would definitely not be a problem. However, if the child is three months old, then the situation is very different. Miss Ye was taking too many antibiotics during that period, and I believe that it is bad for the child.”
Doctor Liu understood.
“However,” He said. “It is unlikely that there were mistakes in testing for the age of the child. Unless… Miss Ye wanted to keep it from Mr. Pei. Mr. Pei, forgive me for being direct again… It seems that Miss Ye was worried that you may ask for the child to be aborted after learning the truth. Even if she used antibiotics then, Miss Ye clearly wants to have the child.”
“Women have soft hearts.” Chu Chen continued. “It is better to deal with painful things quickly.”
Pei Ziheng clearly had no interest to waste his breath on random people. He was still dwelling in the pain and anger of having been fooled. Xiao Ling… his Xiao Ling… and he was naive to think that she finally was willing to have his child. He was looking forward to having a good life together… the three of them.
All along he was the only one with such a dream!
It was just his hallucination! What a joke!
Come to think of it… that drunken night together might have been all part of her plan!
Pei Ziheng clenched his fists together so hard that his knuckles made cracking sounds.
Chu Chen sensed his boiling rage and said to the doctor, “Doctor, you don’t have to persuade anymore. Just tell us directly if the surgery can be done. If you don’t want to abort the child, we will transfer hospitals immediately.”
Doctor Liu’s expression contorted in his dilemma. “If Mr. Pei insists on aborting the child, the surgery can be done. However, it cannot be done now. Miss Ye just had a fall and is still unconscious. Her condition is fragile now. If we do the surgery immediately, it might endanger her life. My suggestion is to allow her to recuperate for a few weeks before we do the abortion surgery.”
This was a sincere suggestion, but also encompassed Doctor Liu’s fear of responsibility that would come with the abortion.
So what if Mr. Pei was the child’s father? An abortion could not be done without the mother’s sign-off by law. He did not want to go against regulation.
Pei Ziheng looked at the unconscious girl lying on the bed, his expression complicated. She had fooled him, and he should not be bothered at all about her condition. If it were any other woman, why would he care if she died on the surgical table? But he could not let that happen to her.
She was the most precious treasure to him… His beloved butterfly.
He already lost her once and did not want to lose her again.
When Xia Ling woke up, she was in the bungalow, lying on the soft bed.
Her mind was in a blur, and it took a while for her to remember what had happened. She was pushed from behind by someone… and then…
“My child!” She sat up in panic, and her hands flew to her abdomen.
Her abdomen was like before, still flat such that one could not tell if she were pregnant. She felt anxious and grabbed a jacket as she hurried downstairs.
“Miss Ye, where are you going?” Nanny Zhou saw her in the living room and hurried over to hold onto her. “Aiyo… can you slow down? You haven’t recovered completely… don’t fall down again.”
“Nanny Zhou,” Xia Ling gripped her tightly, her voice trembling. “My child… is my child alright?”
“Are you talking about the child in your belly?” Nanny Zhou laughed. “Miss Ye, relax. Your child is fine. Yesterday, Mister carried you back himself and told me that you fell down in the office. He was very worried and sent you to Huaxin Mother and Child Specialist Hospital’s emergency room. Senior Zhang said that you and your child are fine.”
Xia Ling breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, he had sent her to Huaxin, and the doctor-in-charge was Senior Zhang. Then the child’s identity would still be safe. The greater news was that the child was fine.
Xia Ling thanked the heavens in her heart for keeping them safe despite her fall. She thought to herself that perhaps the amulet was protecting her, and shielding her and the child from all harm.
As such, she thought about the child’s real father again… Li Lei.
How nice would it be for him to be here… but that was just wishful thinking on her part.
Nanny Zhou boiled some nutritious soup for her and served it to her at the dining table. “Miss Xia, you need to drink this up. It’s good for your body and will strengthen your bones. You need to be well for the child to be well. Mister is very concerned about you and especially instructed me to boil some bird’s nest for you too.”
Xia Ling also wanted to have something nutritious for the child, and so, she sat down to partake in the soup. After she drank the soup, she felt her limbs become warm and more relaxed. She asked Nanny Zhou, “Where’s Mister?”
Nanny Zhou said, “Mister went to the office. He said that he will be busy for some time, so he might not be home every day for dinner.”
