Sheyan stared at Old Charlie. He honestly did not expect that Old Charlie could control the demon Freddy in this way. It was an unexpected gain. More importantly, it meant that to some extent, Old Charlie had the power of Freddy! For Sheyan, who was short of manpower, it was a great piece of news.
He immediately pulled out his mobile phone and made some calls. Because Party Ace had a safety period of three days, he had no fear of using this world’s native communication devices freely.
“Zi, you don’t have to go to the next target.”
“Hello, Sanzi? There are some changes to your route.”
“How many people have you saved, Reef? Ok, good. You don’t have to go to the cruise ship.”
Finally, Sheyan stood in front of Old Charlie and gave him a map.
“You should know what I want you to do.”
Old Charlie gave him a slight bow.
“It’s my pleasure to serve and share my master’s burden.”
Freddy, in Old Charlie’s right pupil, laughed wildly with excitement.
“Let’s go! I love the art of killing. What a perfect art! I’m excited just thinking about it!”
Fifteen minutes later, Sheyan finally saw a black limousine driving over. He stepped hard on the accelerator and sped forward. Then, he rudely parked his vehicle in the middle of the road.
Such behaviour was of course very infuriating. The driver of the limousine immediately jumped down holding a revolver in his hand and shouted angrily, “Do you want to taste bullets?”
Sheyan ignored the threat and merely said in a calm voice, “I’m looking for Ms. Kumat Darley. She should be a college professor.”
A woman in her fifties, wearing a sapphire blue dress, stepped out of the car and stared at Sheyan with suspicious eyes.
“I’m Kumat Darley.”
Sheyan suddenly knocked out the driver and the passenger next to him, then turned towards Professor Darley.
“I knocked them out for their good, professor. Please follow me. I’m afraid you’ve underestimated how brutal and low the government can get.”
Professor Darley stared at Sheyan and the people who fainted in shock. She then frowned and asked, “What are you talking about?”
“The end of the world, Professor Darley. Do you have any plans to make such an announcement in public?” asked Sheyan.
Professor Darley closed her eyes in pain.
“So you’re also in the know. That’s right, I do. I believe everyone has the right to know. Everyone has the right to know when they’ll die!”
“And that’s why you’re going to be assassinated.” Sheyan took her to the FBI car in the distance. The three FBI agents had all died of heart attack, but they each had a different expression before they died. The team leader was happy, Carter was frightened, and the last one was extremely painful.
Sheyan searched out the IDs of the three men and showed them to Professor Darley. He then pointed to the road ahead.
“Do you know what they’re doing here? They’re waiting for your limousine to pass by, and then…”
Sheyan picked up a remote control and pressed it. A violent explosion erupted on a spot on the road, leaving behind a pit of astonishing size. There was no doubt that even a tank would be destroyed by an explosion of this scale, let alone a limousine.
“If I hadn’t intervened, Professor Darley, you’d be dead by now,” Sheyan gave her a very plain summary.
Professor Darley’s face took on a ghastly expression. After all, not everyone could treat death with indifference. Moreover, Professor Darley’s motive for announcing the end of the world to the public was not actually as pure as she claimed! Her purpose was to get a ticket for herself. But, it was a bomb that the government gave her!
Seeing her pale face, Sheyan said no more. He quietly waited for her decision. To be honest, what other choice would an ordinary professor have when she was being hunted by the government? Professor Darley laughed sadly after a moment.
“Since the government is trying to kill me, I won’t be able to live for much longer anyway. Why did you save me?”
“Because we need strength. We need everyone’s strength! There are many other people in this world with strong abilities, but they’re also abandoned by their country like you are. They’re not willing to wait for their death quietly. We’ve gathered together. We’ll unite all our strength and find our own way to survive.”
Professor Darley was astounded. After that, her eyes slowly shone with anticipation.
“So…that man wasn’t lying? What he said is actually true! Is he someone from your organisation too? The one who can whisper into my mind without needing to speak.”
Sheyan’s heart skipped a beat when he heard this! But he remained calm on the outside and asked, “There are simply too many people in our organisation. I’m not sure who you’re talking about. What are his characteristics?”
Professor Darley gave it some thought before she answered, “He’s a kind-looking old man in a wheelchair. They said he’s a doctor in a special institution. Five years ago, a student in our college suddenly suffered from a strange illness. His sudden high fever reached 45 degree Celcius and he turned very destructive. The man in the wheelchair rushed to our college and took the student away. Some people said that the man has superpowers, but most think he’s a fraud.”
Sheyan sighed and lowered his head to hide his trembling hands and excited eyes.
A person in wheelchair who could communicate with people through telepathy. All these keywords seemed to imply that…that formidable guy had appeared in this world!! If that person were to appear, Spiderman and Blade would be nothing!
Sheyan suppressed the excitement in his heart with some difficulty.
“Do you have any other information about him, Professor Darley?”
Professor Darley thought about it carefully before she answered, “I remember hearing the people beside him calling him headmaster. He seems to be the headmaster of a school for the deaf, mute and mentally disabled.”
“Is the full name of that school Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters?” Sheyan asked with narrowed eyes.
“I think so, yes.” Professor Darley nodded.
Sheyan took a deep breath and told Professor Darley, “We should leave now. You’re 11th on the blacklist. We now have to go to another person on the list who’s also in Ohio – a Mr. Gwanze. I hope you can help me convince him to follow us. Otherwise, he’ll just be waiting for his death.”
Professor Darley breathed a sigh of relief. “I actually spoke to him only half an hour earlier. In fact, eight of us have an agreement to publicly announce the news of the 2012 apocalypse together tomorrow in order to be more convincing. I can help you notify the other seven.”
Sheyan nodded. “That’s great. Your publicity stunt is actually doomed to fail because no media will report such news under pressure from the government. Even if it’s published on the Internet, the opponent you’re facing is a terrifyingly large organisation, so they’ll surely use all underhanded measures like massive virus attacks to drown out your voice. Your announcement will just disappear like soap bubbles flowing into the ocean.”
“You’re right,” lamented Professor Dali, “It’s naive of us eight to try to go up against the government. Even more naive is the fact that we believe in the democracy and freedom of this country!”
“You should convince them right away. Find a place to meet up with them. I’ll clean up the FBI agents following after you.”
***
Two hours later, quite a few of the people Professor Darley contacted rushed over after hearing what had befallen her. It seemed that Professor Darley’s unfortunate experience resonated with many of them, or perhaps their motives for making the news of the apocalypse public were not that pure to begin with – they only wanted to force the government to give them tickets – so they were quite afraid of dying.
The remaining two who were initially reluctant came too after they saw the photos and explosion video taken by Professor Darley.
It was naturally up to Sheyan to clean up the tails, which he did admirably. He was well familiar with such tasks by now, not to mention that he also had assistance from Ramtas.
Of course, the more important reason was that a large disaster was about to befall Earth. As a special organisation of the United States government, the FBI possessed more information than anyone else and there were surely a lot of people in the FBI who had realised some things. The world was going to end in less than 20 days. Facing such a situation, the efficiency of the FBI as a whole would surely drop in a dramatic fashion.
Zi had already established a safe temporary gathering place in New York, where the rescued social elites could gather. Their strength together could not be ignored. As one of the world’s busiest metropolitans, New York was a convenient place to gather supplies and necessities, which was convenient for the next step in Sheyan’s plan.
At this time, more good news came from Brother Black. He said that Edward Cullen had come to him following his scent and promised to cooperate with them after learning of their plans. The participation of the Cullen family had greatly increased the number of people saving the social elites. They could also ask for help from the vampires in other countries to save the people on the murder list who were overseas. The Twilight vampires may all look young and beautiful, but they were all hundreds of years old. They must have established a stable social network at their age.
In this way, the task that was expected to take at least sixty hours to complete could actually be done in less than twenty-four hours!
Therefore, Sheyan switched his priority. His next destination became the Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. All he needed to do was convince that one person, that person who had become a world icon, and he would gain a formidable ally!
