To be honest, if this were a game, then the existence of Arbitrator Bloodspear would be a bug. How could he survive for so long if he was not a bug? How could he stand out among the Predators amid such cruel competition if he was not a bug?
Because the ferocity of Ronnie’s attack surprised Bloodspear, the Arbitrator felt that the skull of this man was qualified for honour of being in his collection.
However, the traditional way of dealing with a war trophy skull involved many processes, and there were many taboos during those processes that were passed down through the generations. The most typical one was that the Predators were advised to “process” the skull immediately after decapitation. Legend said that the soul of the enemy could be sealed in the skull this way, so the collector could obtain part of the enemy’s power.
Bloodspear was deeply convinced of this legend. If he had killed Ronnie back then, according to tradition, he must stop to instantly process the skull. He was going to hunt for Sheyan, so how could he do that? Therefore, after beating Ronnie half to death, Bloodspear injected a special Predator medicine into Ronnie, turning Ronnie into the way he was now. Bloodspear then carried Ronnie here to hunt Sheyan.
After Sheyan rescued Ronnie, he administered an antidote and was about to treat Ronnie’s wound when he suddenly heard a loud, furious cry from the distance! The cry was filled with madness, barbarism and arrogance! It was followed by a deafening roar which made the whole place shake!
When Sheyan heard the voice, his eyes immediately lit up. He knew that his backup plan had finally come to fruition.
Less than ten seconds later, there was a faint earthquake. The earthquake turned from soft to violent, as if there was a giant creature approaching angrily from the distance. That kind of threatening momentum was so strong that it was suffocating! Night was approaching and fog had started filling the air, so visibility had lowered dramatically. Otherwise, Sheyan could have found out by now what the approaching mysterious creatures was.
After waiting for a few seconds, what Sheyan saw rushing out of the fog was not the mysterious, horrifying creature, but Arbitrator Bloodspear who was running away from something!
Arbitrator Bloodspear’s face was completely distorted. Previously, even when he had been forced into close combat by Sheyan, he only showed a painful expression, instead of the complex mix of craze, desperation and indignation he was showing right now. Sheyan could see that Bloodspear was badly injured. His left hand was broken at his shoulder. What’s more horrible was that the left side of his body had been flattened as if that part of him had been crushed by a road roller. He was a tragic, chaotic mess of flesh and blood.
Next, the mysterious creature finally showed itself.
It was a terrible creature that existed only in Greek mythology!
A Cyclops!
The Cyclops stood over twelve feet tall and weighed more than two thousand pounds, with a huge bag made of hide on his back. The bag was sewn up with unusually rough and crude handiwork. Through the gaps between the sewing threads made from tendons, Sheyan saw many dirty, foul and puzzling things inside the bag.
These things included stone axes, broken wooden bowls and cups made from the skulls of prey.
The Cyclops had an ape-like appearance, but his head was bare and hairless. His arms were very long and of course had terrifying muscles. His shoulders were drooped and his forehead was low. His skin was between the colour of reddish-brown and light brown. The various scars on his body indicated that he was someone who enjoyed a fight, and he had very tenacious recovery ability as well as great strength!
A spear faintly covered in flames had stabbed into the edge of the only eye on his head. Blood flowed down incessantly. This should be the reason why the Cyclops roared so angrily just now.
If one were to look carefully, one would be able to vaguely see three thick, winding green tendons interweaving together on this creature’s naked chest, which showed that he was of royal lineage. His body could produce a crystalline gland that could resonate with Mother Earth. A more commonly known name for that was a magic core, or a mana core.
A mana core of Earth attribute.
This meant that the Cyclops would be cared for by Mother Earth. As long as he did not want to leave tracks, the earth would sweep away any traces of his passing. During fights, he did not need to bother looking for stones suitable for throwing; Mother Earth would find the most suitable stones and put them in his hands!
The reason Sheyan was able to find this giant creature’s footprint before was because the Cyclops had a bad habit – he would often get lost. Therefore, he had to leave a landmark for himself every once in a while, just like a dog that liked to pee at a lamp post whenever it saw one. The footprint Sheyan found was one of the landmarks the Cyclops left behind to avoid getting lost.
Sheyan and Ronnie had actually almost come into contact with this creature before not long after they landed. The Ferocious Wolverine which chased after Ronnie had actually fallen victim to this creature’s vicious hands!
Back then, although the Cyclops feared the strength of the One-Horned Flying Ant colony, he liked the delicious fat prey on the plain, so he could only hunt at the edge of the the mushroom rock area. The Ferocious Wolverine Ronnie lured over was a tasty meal he had not had for a long time. The humans could not find any traces of him afterwards because of the favour of Mother Earth.
The reason Sheyan collected the blood of a giant marmot and then drenched Bloodspear with it was because he knew that the Cyclops loved food such as the giant marmot. He also knew that this creature from the very top of the food chain would come out during the day and return home at night, so he would drink at the river at dusk before going back to his lair to sleep.
Sheyan got this information after carefully studying a series of data that Cyborg No. 1 got from the semi-crashed spaceship of the native humans. It so happened that the spaceship had collected some detailed information on the Cyclops.
Of course, the semi-crashed spaceship was quite far away from the mushroom rock, so the information it collected was certainly not of this Cyclops, but it should be another of his kind. This Cyclops should have similar living habits.
Sheyan was not 100% sure that there was a Cyclops moving about the area, but he showered Bloodspear with giant marmot blood anyway. Since the One-Horned Flying Ant colony was exterminated, the mushroom rock plain should have been taken over by another overlord, and no overlord was peace-loving! A Predator who exuded a strong smell of blood, running around in their territory – wouldn’t that make for a tasty supper??
This showed how meticulous Sheyan’s scheme was. Even if something went wrong with his plan, the error would be compensated by his backup arrangements.
As for the reason why Cyborg No. 1 was unable to figure out Sheyan’s scheme despite having a richer database knowledge, it had to do with human imagination.
Things happened exactly as Sheyan had hoped for. When the Cyclops came here to drink, he found some delicious “supper” running away from something. The supper was as enticing as a steaming lamb kebab. The Cyclops was instantly tempted. He swung into action immediately.
Bloodspear was a prideful and arrogant Predator. After repeatedly suffering setbacks at the hands of Sheyan, he was full of frustration. When he saw the Cyclops come for him, he naturally wished to take it out on this foolish creature that could not read the mood. Coincidentally, the Cyclops was also accustomed to being tyrannical, so the two sides hit it off immediately.
The confrontation resulted in the Cyclops’ eye almost being stabbed blind by a flaming spear, while Bloodspear was hit by a huge stone thrown by the horrible monster due to a moment of carelessness. Despite Bloodspear’s terrifying vitality, the damage the stone caused was severe.
Bloodspear got momentarily careless because he lacked experience in fighting against Cyclops and saw that there were no suitable throwing stones around the creature.
As the saying went, a wounded beast was the most dangerous. The Cyclops, whose eye was injured, immediately went berserk and burst out with great power. He did not need to consider the problem of ammunition at all as he performed the three best throws of his life in quick succession.
The result was what Sheyan was seeing right now. Half the Arbitrator’s body was almost crushed to a pulp. Every step he took left behind an emerald footprint due to the blood dripping down his body. In addition, he still had to cope with the pursuit of the Cyclops whose stamina was almost endless! The Predator was still running resolutely with his teeth clenched, but he was obviously already an arrow at the end of its flight.
The reason the bastard was running here was because he knew that he would probably not escape from the Cyclops this time, so he wanted to drag Sheyan down with him!
At that moment, Ronnie gave out a faint hum and came to his senses. His eyes almost popped out as soon as he opened them. He also detected the familiar nauseating smell in the air secreted by the glands of the Cyclops.
The two humans exchanged glances and immediately knew that it was time to see who was more shameless. Both of them simply closed their eyes at the same time. Besides closing his eyes, Sheyan had to do one more thing, and that was to fall straight onto the grass.
That’s right.
They carried out the ultimate solution they came up with – playing dead!
