Qin Zheng pondered for some time before he said quizzically, “You’re not here for meds, right?”
“Why would I need the medicine?” Huo Yao gently flicked some nonexistent dust on her sleeves and finally said, “You’re talking about meds for Min Yu, right?”
Qin Zheng pursed his lips. He did not understand what Huo Yao was doing here anymore. He could not help feeling annoyed after hearing what she said.
He had a feeling that he was swiftly losing control of the situation somehow.
Qin Zheng’s phone rang in his pocket. The unexpected ringtone made him feel tense.
Qin Zheng paused before taking out his phone.
It was Pei Rong calling him.
Qin Zheng frowned and answered the phone.
“Deputy Chairman Qin, I hear that Min Yu is fine and didn’t relapse.” Pei Rong’s solemn voice came from over the phone.
Qin Zheng hastily opened his eyes in shock as he tightened his grip on the phone. “Really?”
Pei Rong replied. “I’m pretty sure.”
When he heard what Pei Rong said, Qin Zheng suddenly raised his head and looked at Huo Yao. She was completely calm and seemed well-prepared. He promptly connected the dots about what she had just said and his mind flew into chaos.
If Min Yu’s condition did not deteriorate, why did Min Yu deliberately release intel about it? It must have been a trap to lure him.
Now that he finally detected something amiss and connected the dots, he promptly realized that he had overlooked something crucial.
Pei Rong wanted to say more to Qin Zheng, but he was no longer listening. He simply kept taking in the news that Min Yu was alive and well.
All these years, he had been a cautious man, so no one was able to get any dirt on him. He did not expect himself to get outsmarted at this juncture.
Qin Zheng hung up the phone furiously. He turned to look at Huo Yao and could not help asking. “Is Min Yu really okay?”
Huo Yao nodded. She smiled ambiguously and said, “Things are very peaceful in the capital, right? Do you think this could be the case if he were unwell?”
Qin Zheng was stunned upon hearing this.
All this time, Qin Zheng kept plotting and scheming to remove Chairman Wang from power. After his spy working for the Min family told him Min Yu had suffered a relapse, he stopped keeping an eye on Min Yu. Also, Pei Rong had sent his father to confirm Min Yu’s condition, so he got careless.
In hindsight, there were plenty of clues pointing out that something was wrong, but he missed them all.
The Min family was the most powerful family in the capital. If something had happened to Min Yu, there would be a power vacuum and the political scene would go into chaos the moment news got out.
Qin Zheng kept pondering to himself. After some time, he paused and composed himself. “In that case, what do you want from me?”
“Nothing much. I just want to ask you about someone.” Huo Yao tapped her fingers gently as she spoke in a nonchalant tone.
Qin Zheng narrowed his eyes. “Who?”
“Where is your boss?” Huo Yao tilted her head sideways looking at Qin Zheng. Even though she spoke in an airy tone, her voice sounded intense.
Qin Zheng looked straight into Huo Yao’s eyes. She was just a young woman in her twenties, but he inexplicably felt intimidated talking to her and could sense his back going numb.
Only Mr. Fan was able to make him feel this way.
Judging from his interaction with her, she was not to be trifled with.
